I am an older woman, living on five mostly undeveloped acres just outside Roswell, N.M. (yes, THAT Roswell) who needs help mostly outside, trying to make my property self-sustainable. I'm learning as I go, so trying new things is always fun.

I have just retired from my job and will be traveling the world for the next few years. However, the property still needs caring for and my caretaker, Gary, a HelpXer himself, will be overseeing it and taking over the hosting duties.

Thanks to some marvelous HelpXers in the past, the major (read: really hard) work is done, so now I need folks who can help plant, weed, water and harvest my gardens, as well as feed and care for my two llamas, two goats, duck and dozen or so chickens.

There's still some outdoor cleanup to be done and we both love folks who come up with creative new ideas for my property. (And, if you're into cooking or housekeeping, we won't turn that down either.)

Gary is looking for folks skilled in carpentry (own to... more inside

Need help with BBQ vending stand involving cooking and customer service. Looks like we are about to move our BBQ stand on the army base! so we definitely need more help. also help with the start-up of highly nutritious plant protein infused raw meat dog food, also in the process of starting a non-profit dog rehabilitation center near Bisbee, Arizona, USA

My Story:

I've temporarily moved from my mountain and huskies in Washington to take over my departed mothers ranch near Bisbee Arizona. The ranch I grew up on. My goal is to build the facilities and animal health to make an highly nutritious plant protein infused raw meat dog food and to supply smoked meats for locals. I have spent 12 years smoking meats in a personal business I once owned. And have bred, raised and trained huskies for close to 20 years. Stumbling on a the plant infused protein supplement and seeing amazing results have driven me to pursue the goal of better nutrition for all dogs. I have spent most of my li... more inside

Ready to see some aliens? Come to Roswell and visit the UFO Museum and other fascinating places here. BTW, you will not find any aliens in my house, sorry to say...

I am a retired teacher, and I stay busy most of the time. I am a Teacher Liaison for the Space Foundation, president of the Roswell Astronomy Club, tutor students, volunteer at church and in schools, and travel often. I was an exchange student in Spain for a semester and have also traveled throughout Europe and Brazil. I have hosted and surfed often through Couchsurfing and enjoy meeting new people.

I am married with two sons. My oldest son lives in Nashville after landing a great job, and my youngest son is a senior at college. My youngest son does come home periodically for some home-cooked meals. :) We have three outside dogs and four cats that spend time inside and out.

My husband and I live in a ranch-style home outside of the Roswell city limits. Our home is modest. It needs a little bit of ... more inside

Who We Are:
I am a landscape designer, music hippie, and eco-friendly tree hugger. My 12-year-old granddaughter lives with me part-time and is a vivacious free spirit with bundles of wit and charm. We also have a close-knit community of friends, family, and neighbors who frequently pop in and out.

Where We Live:
We have a beautiful 15 acres in the North Texas country-side. While there is a very rural feeling to the property, we are only a 15 minute car ride from historical McKinney and less than an hour from the DFW airport. Our little farm is organic with herb/veggie gardens, chickens for eggs, and great hiking trails. We also have a beautiful fire pit, above-ground swimming pool, outdoor kitchen, a trampoline, tree fort loft, and lots of space to roam and stretch out.

Our Petting Zoo:
We have lots of furry friends!
7 dogs, 7 chickens, 3 cats, 2 horses.
Must love animals to stay here! :)

Our Venue:
In addition to being a small farm, we hold live concerts for local... more inside

My husband Tim and I moved out to our place in the desert in January 2008 along with our many plants. It was soon after we arrived that I got re-introduced to the miracle Moringa tree and began growing them. One thing led to another and our company was born. We have continued to grow our little farm to what it is today. We have an orchard with about 50 fruit and nut trees, an enclosed veggie garden area that is protected from wildlife, several growing structures (greenhouses in winter and shade structures in summer), and lots of projects to become more self sustainable, including solar energy production, etc.

We endeavor to provide a vast range of experiences for someone, and to offer a well balanced variety of activities that allows someone to learn as well as to contribute. As our business continues to grow, as well as the natural shift in focus / priorities that happens from season to season, our needs at various times also shift. Our most immediate need at the momen... more inside

We live on a small farm located on 23 acres in central Texas. Cliff owns a 100 year old furniture store in our small town and I work from home and take care of the farm animals. We have goats, chickens, ducks and rabbits and 2 horses.

I need help with all aspects of farm upkeep. This might include gardening/weeding, milking goats (depending on season), doctoring animals, fence repair, moving goats from pasture to pasture, grooming animals, helping with cooking and preparing meals. From time to time we might paint a structure or barn. Animal feeding/care is done twice per day (morning/evening chores) most days have a lot of free time depending on what projects we have that week but it doesn't take long - 30 minutes maximum.

There are snakes/spiders/bugs all around us. Not to be afraid of but to respect. They will not harm you if you don't harm them and stay out of their way. There is also a lot of animal manure/poop. Occasionally animals get sick and die or we have to humanely ... more inside

If this project sounds like it might interest you - Please reach out to learn more! I have lots of projects for the fall/winter.

Hello! I am located in a warm sunny southern New Mexico ghost town called Cuchillo and I have several historic adobe properties which date to the mid-1800s. The main property was a stagecoach stop and housed the old saloon, general store, mercantile, and hotel. The old hotel is currently my private residence and available on Airbnb as a rental.

The property is located in a small valley backed up to an immense open desert and beautiful New Mexico skies. Within half an hour from the property you can find New Mexico's largest lake, the Rio Grande, Hot Springs, amazing hikes, wildlife, national Forest, climbing, biking, mines, crystals, canyons, beautiful weather and tons of inspiration.

I have several old homes and motorhomes that I can host in, and property for tents. I lean towards making this a 'hostel' atmosphere of sorts for travelers, arti... more inside

Arizona: Flexible Homestay Opportunity

This is a great opportunity for a brief and casual "add-on" before, after or between your other volunteering, work-exchange projects or homestays in the U.S. If you are exploring the U.S., or making your way to another assignment, and would like to stop in Arizona, even for just a few days, then keep reading!

I'm a managing attorney for a major consumer-based technology company. I work from home and with a relatively flexible schedule, so I usually have ample time to spend with my guests.

Before relocating to Arizona I lived in Manhattan and worked as an attorney for one of Europe's largest investment banks. I have also taught economics, finance and business ethics at a local colelge.

I have a B.S. in Business & Economics, an M.A. in Economics, and a J.D., which I earned at age 36.

I live alone with my dog in a townhome development in Glendale, Arizona -- literally across the street from Phoenix.

I have been an active host us... more inside
