Hi there! Welcome to Wilder Thymes! Here, you will have the opportunity to put many of the talents, skills and abilities that you already have to great use, and hopefully you will learn and gain some new ones, along the way, as well! We have many things going on between April and October that may interest you, including several ways that you may be able to make some money while you are here!

Wilder Thymes is a small organic farm with a vast and diverse array of plants, as we grow over 500 varieties of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers. We also have a Natural Foods Store with a Deli/Food Bar/Certified Kitchen and an Herb Room. Along with that, we have a booth at a farmers market, we vend at a few festivals and other events, and we go on road trips and adventures for fun in between, whenever possible. Depending on what your skills, interests and ambitions are, you could be involved in any or all of that, and more, in some fashion!

What we do is often different from... more inside

We are particularly interested in hosting HELPXERS for the months of March through July 2019, so view our site and maybe we can work with each other. We invite you to visit our farm, share in our life and experience our lovely community and the Midwest hospitality. We are located in the southern part of the state and share culture with Louisville, KY. Days here are lived to the fullest, whether working, creating or relaxing; whether in the field, the garden, the river, the pond, the kitchen or the table; whether privately on the land we are so grateful to be able to steward or with the incredibly wholesome community here. Our Farm is Smoke, alcohol and drug free. We enjoy and protect the wild life, sorry we do not promote domestic animals on the property. We are gentle and respectful people and expect the same from our guest. As customary, the person joining us, is expected to work five hours a day, five days a week in exchange for room and board; Saturday and Sunday are consider yo... more inside

We are on a 65 acre farm in North Pope County, Illinois and are virtually surrounded by the Shawnee National Forest. Having been on this farm for five years, we are still developing infrastructure and are continuing to plant in the orchard and various berries as well as establishing and expanding garden and crop areas.

We are a GMO, herbicide and pesticide free farm in all of our outdoor areas. As we are far away from "modern agricultural" property, we feel that we should have no problems with cross pollination of our crops with GMO's or damage/exposure from/to ag chemicals.

There are many projects currently in process or in the planning stages. This summer/fall we hope to get new water and electric lines ran to all the barns and the greenhouse as well as get a fiber studio framed in and get the finishing touches on the greenhouses.

Tasks on the farm are endless, so there are always things to do year round. Clearing brush, cutting wood, building fence, baling hay, sawin... more inside

We are Marcus and Cathy, a husband and wife team in our early 50s who are rehabbing a three-unit building on Chicago’s west side, turning it into an energy efficient net-zero home. We’re seeking a responsible, respectful, and clean person or couple to commit to basically a half-time job working on our building rehab in exchange for room, board, and meals.

Where you’ll be: Our building is located on the west side of Chicago in the North Lawndale community, which is a largely African American neighborhood about four miles west of downtown Chicago as the crow flies.

Who you are: You have some basic construction experience or are willing to learn, and you have an interest in environmentally responsible construction. You’re a single person or a couple. Our place is not suitable for kids or pets.

About the project: You’ll stay in a clean, comfortable bedroom in our apartment. We’ll share meals, or you can prepare your own. You’ll commit to working about 6 hours a day, 4 days a... more inside

Hi everyone,

Jenny and Alex here! We moved to Detroit in 2013 after living in Asia for 5 years. Alex is originally from California and Jenny is from Hong Kong. We met in Germany through an internship and later fell in love in a hostel in Spain while road-tripping through wine country. Alex has a background in tech start-ups in NYC and California while Jenny worked in marketing for L`Oreal in Hong Kong and Germany.

We LOVE to travel and have lived and adventured throughout Europe and Asia extensively. In 2013 we decided to move back to the US and thought we would end up in California but when we heard they were tearing houses down in Detroit we decided to check it out. As any open-minded traveler knows, a good place can often be distorted by the media so we decided to do a road trip to see the city for ourselves. After driving into Detroit we fell in love with the city! People here have a lot of pride and heart. There is a spirit of resilience and you can feel the ener... more inside

The mission of our farm is to teach people how to be healthy through good nutrition, exercise, relationships, and a healthy lifestyle. We also provide healthy food for our customers and show them how to prepare it. We have a large garden and small CSA, we make maple syrup, we grow corn, soybeans, wheat, spelt and hay and we raise chickens for eggs, and grass-fed beef. We mill the wheat into flour and corn into cornmeal. We have a sawmill and make our own lumber. We have lots of events including maple sugaring open house, mushroom hunts, and fall festivals. We do other special events including hayrides, retreats, and weddings. We have finished our cabin at the lake and it is open for visitors and events. We love to have volunteers and some resist leaving because of the atmosphere. Send us an email. Hope to hear from you. My photos are mostly with former helpxers, I appear with the bull and pitchfork.

By the way, we have two horses that do not get enough work. Would you like to wor... more inside

Homestay in Southern Indiana seeks friendly and compassionate travelers

Needs vary from landscaping / gardening / housework / deep cleaning / organization / photography / social media stuff.

We are considering a live willow retaining wall to prevent erosion at the shoreline. If you have knowledge of or experience with this kind of natural solution, PLEASE contact me so we can make plans for the Spring and/or just talk it through. I have a zillion questions but know this would be the best solution for our lake.

Ask me about Festivals! There are several awesome retreats/camps/ecovillages nearby who host cool festivals/celebrations/seminars just about every month of the year, many of which offer great opportunities to present a class / service yourself or sell your wares to fund your travels… and a lot of fun too. So come for the Festivals and stay for the help exchange. Or come for the help exchange and enjoy the festivals in your time off. Which ever works. lol

We started our Vineyard back in 2004,it is located in a Beautiful,Quiet,Valley along the bluffs of the Mississippi River. We have five children that have now grown and moved out on there own. I just retired from a career of Process Instrument Work at the local power plant. I could use some help with the Vineyard and Gardens, but also enjoy fishing and boating on the river in the evenings and of course days off. We would be willing to supply your own bedroom, great meals and WiFi. We also have two Female Collies that love to get brushed and played with. The ideal person would have to be able to work on there own or in a small group, after some training of course to get you up to your comfort level, so as you basically understand what the goals might be for the time of year and tasks at hand, a five hour day,if the weather permits, is what we usually work . There might be a few longer days, but I`m sure that having time off to check out the area won`t be any problem. If you would car... more inside
