We are on a 65 acre farm in North Pope County, Illinois and are virtually surrounded by the Shawnee National Forest. Having been on this farm for five years, we are still developing infrastructure and are continuing to plant in the orchard and various berries as well as establishing and expanding garden and crop areas.

We are a GMO, herbicide and pesticide free farm in all of our outdoor areas. As we are far away from "modern agricultural" property, we feel that we should have no problems with cross pollination of our crops with GMO's or damage/exposure from/to ag chemicals.

There are many projects currently in process or in the planning stages. This summer/fall we hope to get new water and electric lines ran to all the barns and the greenhouse as well as get a fiber studio framed in and get the finishing touches on the greenhouses.

Tasks on the farm are endless, so there are always things to do year round. Clearing brush, cutting wood, building fence, baling hay, sawin... more inside

We are particularly interested in hosting HELPXERS for the months of May through September 2019, so view our site and maybe we can work with each other. We invite you to visit our farm, share in our life and experience our lovely community and the Midwest hospitality. We are located in the southern part of the state and share culture with Louisville, KY. Days here are lived to the fullest, whether working, creating or relaxing; whether in the field, the garden, the river, the pond, the kitchen or the table; whether privately on the land we are so grateful to be able to steward or with the incredibly wholesome community here. Our Farm is Smoke, alcohol and drug free. We enjoy and protect the wild life, sorry we do not promote domestic animals on the property. We are gentle and respectful people and expect the same from our guest. As customary, the person joining us, is expected to work five hours a day, five days a week in exchange for room and board; Saturday and Sunday are consider... more inside

Greetings, traveler! We are a 34-acre, privately owned oasis of oak and pine forest, savanna, and native prairie among a rolling sea of fields in northeast Iowa, four miles from the picturesque town of Le Claire on the banks of the Mississippi. All manner of Midwest birds, bees, butterflies, and wildlife make their homes on our land.

Our guiding vision is to restore, regenerate, and heal ourselves, our community, and the land, learning from the wisdom embedded within the native ecology. Every day we strive to realize through action what Aldo Leopold called the “Land Ethic,” which “simply enlarges the boundaries of the community to include soils, waters, plants, and animals, or collectively: the land.” We are dedicated to restoring and preserving this native habitat, and looking for folks to come help us in our mission.

“We” are Tony and Joyce, owners who enjoy meeting new people and making them feel welcome.

We’re looking for folks enthusiastic about doing conservation wor... more inside

The mission of our farm is to teach people how to be healthy through good nutrition, exercise, relationships, and a healthy lifestyle. We also provide healthy food for our customers and show them how to prepare it. We have a large garden and small CSA, we make maple syrup, we grow corn, soybeans, wheat, spelt and hay and we raise chickens for eggs, and grass-fed beef. We mill the wheat into flour and corn into cornmeal. We have a sawmill and make our own lumber. We have lots of events including maple sugaring open house, mushroom hunts, and fall festivals. We do other special events including hayrides, retreats, and weddings. We have finished our cabin at the lake and it is open for visitors and events. We love to have volunteers and some resist leaving because of the atmosphere. Send us an email. Hope to hear from you. My photos are mostly with former helpxers, I appear with the bull and pitchfork.

By the way, we have two horses that do not get enough work. Would you like to wor... more inside

Hi everyone,
Jenny and Alex here! We moved to Detroit in 2013 after living in Asia for 5 years. Alex is originally from California and Jenny is from Hong Kong. We met in Germany through an internship and later fell in love in a hostel in Spain while road-tripping through wine country. Alex has a background in tech start-ups in NYC and California while Jenny worked in marketing for L`Oreal in Hong Kong and Germany.
We LOVE to travel and have lived and adventured throughout Europe and Asia extensively. In 2013 we decided to move back to the US and thought we would end up in California but when we heard they were tearing houses down in Detroit we decided to check it out. As any open-minded traveler knows, a good place can often be distorted by the media so we decided to do a road trip to see the city for ourselves. After driving into Detroit we fell in love with the city! People here have a lot of pride and heart. There is a spirit of resilience and you can feel the energy as the ci... more inside

Homestay in Southern Indiana seeks friendly and compassionate travelers

Needs vary from landscaping / gardening / housework / deep cleaning / organization / photography / social media stuff.

We are considering a live willow retaining wall to prevent erosion at the shoreline. If you have knowledge of or experience with this kind of natural solution, PLEASE contact me so we can make plans for the Spring and/or just talk it through. I have a zillion questions but know this would be the best solution for our lake.

Ask me about Festivals! There are several awesome retreats/camps/ecovillages nearby who host cool festivals/celebrations/seminars just about every month of the year, many of which offer great opportunities to present a class / service yourself or sell your wares to fund your travels… and a lot of fun too. So come for the Festivals and stay for the help exchange. Or come for the help exchange and enjoy the festivals in your time off. Which ever works. lol

Here, you will have the opportunity to put many of the talents, skills and abilities that you already have to great use, and hopefully you will learn and gain some new ones, along the way, as well! We have many things going on between April and October that may interest you, including several ways that you may be able to make some money while you are here!

This is a small organic farm with a vast and diverse array of plants, as we grow over 500 varieties of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers. We also have a Natural Foods Store with a Deli/Food Bar/Certified Kitchen and an Herb Room. Along with that, we have a booth at a farmers market, we vend at a few festivals and other events, and we go on road trips and adventures for fun in between, whenever possible. We are Marcus and Cathy, a husband and wife team who are rehabbing a three-unit building on Chicago’s west side, turning it into an energy efficient net-zero home. We’re seeking a responsible, respectful, and clean person or couple to commit to basically a half-time job working on our building rehab in exchange for room, board, and meals.

Where you’ll be: Our building is located on the west side of Chicago in the North Lawndale community, which is a largely African American neighborhood about four miles west of downtown Chicago as the crow flies. We have very good access to public transportation that takes you downtown.

Who you are: You have some basic construction experience or are willing to learn, and you have an interest in environmentally responsible construction and/or green buildings. You’re a single person or a couple. Our place is not suitable for kids or pets.

About the project: You’ll stay in a clean, comfortable bedroom in our apartment. We’ll share meals, or ... more inside

Looking for helpers interested in remodeling homes. We buy ugly houses and make them pretty. We also need help in and around our own home. Happy to pay for additional hours of work as well. Willing to train anyone who is interested in learning. We ask for 4 hours of help per day, 5 days per week, in exchange for room and board, and then anything over the 4 hours would be paid time.

We ask that you do not prepare raw meat onsite. There are plenty of places to eat meat just 1/2 miles from the property. We are okay with fish and preparing seafood. Also okay for you to buy cooked meat and eat onsite, just no raw/uncooked meat (including raw chicken) products please. We make healthy meals for you while you are here, encourage you to make your own meals as our schedules are very hectic, or help in the kitchen with food prep.

We hope that we can share some culture with you while you are here with us. If you are looking for an American experience, we are truly the melting ... more inside

Our rural retirement dream located in the beautiful Missouri Ozarks is just minutes from the Ozark National Scenic Riverways featuring the Jack's Fork, Current, and Eleven Point Rivers, and the Black River and Clearwater Lake are also nearby. Great fishing and kayaking are available nearly all year. We are surrounded by privately held woodland and the Mark Twain National Forest, featuring miles and miles of beautiful country roads and hiking trails, including sections of the Ozark Trail. Helpers at our little farm can expect bountiful scenic beauty to take away the sting of chores, and plenty of free time to explore. We need help with farmhouse renovations and various outdoor chores. Those with horse experience are preferred, as we have four horses needing exercise and training in addition to the rest of the farm chores. There are endless house painting chores, barn and tool organization tasks, lawncare, gardening, fence building and repair, tack cleaning...I could go on forever! We... more inside
