Hi everyone,
Jenny and Alex here! We moved to Detroit in 2013 after living in Asia for 5 years. Alex is originally from California and Jenny is from Hong Kong. We met in Germany through an internship and later fell in love in a hostel in Spain while road-tripping through wine country. Alex has a background in tech start-ups in NYC and California while Jenny worked in marketing for L`Oreal in Hong Kong and Germany.
We LOVE to travel and have lived and adventured throughout Europe and Asia extensively. In 2013 we decided to move back to the US and thought we would end up in California but when we heard they were tearing houses down in Detroit we decided to check it out. As any open-minded traveler knows, a good place can often be distorted by the media so we decided to do a road trip to see the city for ourselves. After driving into Detroit we fell in love with the city! People here have a lot of pride and heart. There is a spirit of resilience and you can feel the energy as the ci... more inside

We are currently considering HELPXERS for December 2019 through March 2020.
Our place is set in a beautiful wooded valley in southern Indiana, surrounded by the Hoosier National forest; so our place is a magical place, with lots of trees, birds, wildlife and natural beauty. We cherish nature here and give gratitude every day to Mother Earth. It is remote and isolated, with the nearest neighbor about a mile away. The closest small town with a convenience/gas store is 7 miles. To enter the property, a ford across a small stream, the Patoka River, must be crossed, or, if the water is up, a footbridge is available. It is extremely quiet, tranquil and peaceful here. We are located 48 miles west of Louisville, KY. Wi-Fi is available and the feed is via unlimited optic fiber.
We are a wife and husband who grow vegetables for personal consumption, and we freeze, dehydrate, sun dry and can for our own use and donate the excess. We do mapling during the season and manage our forest without... more inside

Hi there! I have a small organic farm with over 500 varieties of fruits, vegetables, herbs, along with a natural foods store and deli (We have lots of posts and photos on FB and IG). The store is located 33 miles from the farm, in a town with a population of 10,000 in the winter and 100,000+ in the summer, because of all the tourists and seasonal residents who come to enjoy the lakes.

In 2020, I would like to find 1-2 people, preferably female, or a couple, who are willing and able to come here for the entire growing season, which is April – October. Shorter stays by additional people may be possible, but my main focus, and need, is to find people who will be here for most of this time frame, who I will only have to teach and train once, and who can then do things without a lot of supervision.

Each of these persons would do 2-3 days a week of work exchange at the farm (16-24 hrs/week total). This will vary with the weather, what needs to be done, and what events might b... more inside

We are on a 65 acre farm in North Pope County, Illinois and are virtually surrounded by the Shawnee National Forest. Having been on this farm for five years, we are still developing infrastructure and are continuing to plant in the orchard and various berries as well as establishing and expanding garden and crop areas.

We are a GMO, herbicide and pesticide free farm in all of our outdoor areas. As we are far away from "modern agricultural" property, we feel that we should have no problems with cross pollination of our crops with GMO's or damage/exposure from/to ag chemicals.

There are many projects currently in process or in the planning stages. This summer/fall we hope to get new water and electric lines ran to all the barns and the greenhouse as well as get a fiber studio framed in and get the finishing touches on the greenhouses.

Tasks on the farm are endless, so there are always things to do year round. Clearing brush, cutting wood, building fence, baling hay, sawin... more inside

Homestay in Southern Indiana seeks friendly and compassionate travelers

UPDATED!!!

We had big plans for this piece of property but life is changing in profound ways and I am unsure what the future holds. The interests and activities in my profile are still true but unfortunately, I’m becoming more of a spectator than a participant.

I am being evaluated for MS and getting wimpy quicker than expected. I can’t tolerate the heat or the sun nor can I walk very far. Some days I can’t walk at all. Thee Dr says I am a “fall risk” and I have fallen enough this summer that I agree with them!

My lifetime goal / dream of opening an antique shop is gone and all this inventory needs to go to. It looks like time to move back to town sooner than we planned, to a house with no stairs.

So it is time to simplify, steer back to mindfulness and try find a nice balance so I can relax and concentrate. I need to re-energize my Reiki skills, find my center again, work on eating be... more inside

We are Marcus and Cathy, a husband and wife team who are rehabbing a three-unit building on Chicago’s west side, turning it into an energy efficient net-zero home. We’re seeking a responsible, respectful, and clean person or couple to commit to basically a half-time job working on our building rehab in exchange for room, board, and meals.

Where you’ll be: Our building is located on the west side of Chicago in the North Lawndale community, which is a largely African American neighborhood about four miles west of downtown Chicago as the crow flies. We have very good access to public transportation that takes you downtown.

The mission of our farm is to teach people how to be healthy through good nutrition, exercise, relationships, and a healthy lifestyle. We also provide healthy food for our customers and show them how to prepare it. We have a large garden and small CSA, we make maple syrup, we grow corn, soybeans, wheat, spelt and hay and we raise chickens for eggs, and grass-fed beef. We have a sawmill and make our own lumber. We have lots of events including maple sugaring open house, mushroom hunts, and fall festivals. We do other special events including hayrides, retreats, and weddings. We have finished our cabin at the lake and it is open for visitors and events. We love to have volunteers and some resist leaving because of the atmosphere. Send us an email. Hope to hear from you. My photos are mostly with former helpxers, I appear with the bull and pitchfork.

By the way, we have two horses that do not get enough work.
