Hi everyone,
Jenny and Alex here! We moved to Detroit in 2013 after living in Asia for 5 years. Alex is originally from California and Jenny is from Hong Kong. We met in Germany through an internship and later fell in love in a hostel in Spain while road-tripping through wine country. Alex has a background in tech start-ups in NYC and California while Jenny worked in marketing for L`Oreal in Hong Kong and Germany.
We LOVE to travel and have lived and adventured throughout Europe and Asia extensively. In 2013 we decided to move back to the US and thought we would end up in California but when we heard they were tearing houses down in Detroit we decided to check it out. As any open-minded traveler knows, a good place can often be distorted by the media so we decided to do a road trip to see the city for ourselves. After driving into Detroit we fell in love with the city! People here have a lot of pride and heart. There is a spirit of resilience and you can feel the energy as the ci... more inside

We are on a 65 acre farm in North Pope County, Illinois and are virtually surrounded by the Shawnee National Forest. Having been on this farm for five years, we are still developing infrastructure and are continuing to plant in the orchard and various berries as well as establishing and expanding garden and crop areas.

We are a GMO, herbicide and pesticide free farm in all of our outdoor areas. As we are far away from "modern agricultural" property, we feel that we should have no problems with cross pollination of our crops with GMO's or damage/exposure from/to ag chemicals.

There are many projects currently in process or in the planning stages. This summer/fall we hope to get new water and electric lines ran to all the barns and the greenhouse as well as get a fiber studio framed in and get the finishing touches on the greenhouses.

Tasks on the farm are endless, so there are always things to do year round. Clearing brush, cutting wood, building fence, baling hay, sawin... more inside

We are particularly interested in hosting HELPXERS for the months of July through October 2019, so view our site and maybe we can work with each other. We invite you to visit our farm, share in our life and experience our lovely community and the Midwest hospitality. We are located in the southern part of the state and share culture with Louisville, KY. Days here are lived to the fullest, whether working, creating or relaxing; whether in the field, the garden, the river, the pond, the kitchen or the table; whether privately on the land we are so grateful to be able to steward or with the incredibly wholesome community here. Our Farm is Smoke, alcohol and drug free. We enjoy and protect the wild life, sorry we do not promote domestic animals on the property. We are gentle and respectful people and expect the same from our guest. As customary, the person joining us, is expected to work five hours a day, five days a week in exchange for room and board; Saturday and Sunday are consider ... more inside

Homestay in Southern Indiana seeks friendly and compassionate travelers

UPDATE!

We had big plans for this piece of property but life is changing in profound ways and I am unsure what the future holds. The interests and activities in my profile are still true but I’m becoming more of a spectator than a participant.

I am being evaluated for MS. I can’t tolerate the heat or the sun nor can I walk very far. Some days I can’t walk at all. The dream of opening an antique shop is gone and all this inventory needs to go to. I’m not going to worry about tomatoes or mushrooms or willow tree retaining walls… I just can’t. It looks like time to move back to town, to a house with no stairs.

Help with basic housework, yard work and selling the inventory / household items would be greatly appreciated at this time.

Needs vary from landscaping / gardening / housework / deep cleaning / organization / photography / social media stuff.

We started our Vineyard back in 2004,it is located in a Beautiful,Quiet,Valley along the bluffs of the Mississippi River. We have five children that have now grown and moved out on there own. I just retired from a career of Process Instrument Work at the local power plant. I could use some help with the Vineyard and Gardens, but also enjoy fishing and boating on the river in the evenings and of course days off. We would be willing to supply your own bedroom, great meals and WiFi. We also have two Female Collies that love to get brushed and played with. The ideal person would have to be able to work on there own or in a small group, after some training of course to get you up to your comfort level, so as you basically understand what the goals might be for the time of year and tasks at hand, a five hour day,if the weather permits, is what we usually work . There might be a few longer days, but I`m sure that having time off to check out the area won`t be any problem. If you would car... more inside

We are Marcus and Cathy, a husband and wife team who are rehabbing a three-unit building on Chicago’s west side, turning it into an energy efficient net-zero home. We’re seeking a responsible, respectful, and clean person or couple to commit to basically a half-time job working on our building rehab in exchange for room, board, and meals.

Where you’ll be: Our building is located on the west side of Chicago in the North Lawndale community, which is a largely African American neighborhood about four miles west of downtown Chicago as the crow flies. We have very good access to public transportation that takes you downtown.

Who you are: You have some basic construction experience or are willing to learn, and you have an interest in environmentally responsible construction and/or green buildings. You’re a single person or a couple. Our place is not suitable for kids or pets.

About the project: You’ll stay in a clean, comfortable bedroom in our apartment. We’ll share meals, or ... more inside

So what's the story with our farm?

Well, it's a farm whose caretakers are working to enact just that…a new story! We believe that virtually all of the problems that come with civilization stem from people believing the predominant cultural story which says we are "above" or "separate" from nature. This story that is omnipresent in our culture tells us that the natural laws of nature are not applicable to us.

New Story Farm is a regenerative farm, one that is growing in the direction of an agrarian intentional community.

We share the land with Daniel's parents. They live in the house and we live in the garage while we are building a small dwelling that will serve as a communal space. It will be mostly ready by Spring 2019.

For now, we are seeking persons wanting to come for 2 weeks up to 2 months at a time to help us with growing veggies and caring for the perennials. We holistically raise cows, chickens and pigs too.

We have an ex post truck with queen bed you may... more inside

***UPDATE: Now seeking helpers for 2019 season - April or May through September, one to three weeks is our average stay***

Short term stays of one to three weeks work best for us, longer and shorter stays are negotiable.

OUR HELPERS: We learn something about life from each of our helpers and we *love* that! While we often work side by side with our helpers, we prefer someone who is capable of working on their own or with minimal supervision, is self-motivated (someone who sees something needs done and jumps in and does it), and has a fair degree of independence.

OUR URBAN FARM: Located just a few hours West of Chicago in the heartland of the United States, ours is an organic, urban culinary herb farm that is constantly changing and evolving. Much help is needed in creating vertical grow space and building new raised beds or repairing existing ones.

We grow organic herbs, edible blossoms, fruits, veg and greens. We sell to local upscale restaurants and occasionally at fa... more inside
