We are particularly interested in hosting HELPXERS for the months of December (2018) through May 2019, so view our site and maybe we can work with each other. We invite you to visit our farm, share in our life and experience our lovely community and the Midwest hospitality. We are located in the southern part of the state and share culture with Louisville, KY. Days here are lived to the fullest, whether working, creating or relaxing; whether in the field, the garden, the river, the pond, the kitchen or the table; whether privately on the land we are so grateful to be able to steward or with the incredibly wholesome community here. Our Farm is Smoke, alcohol and drug free. We enjoy and protect the wild life, sorry we do not promote domestic animals on the property. We are gentle and respectful people and expect the same from our guest. As customary, the person joining us, is expected to work five hours a day, five days a week in exchange for room and board; Saturday and Sunday are co... more inside

We need your help now! We’ve had a massive flood that has destroyed 8 of our Tree House Cabins and we need as much help as possible! So please come!

We are a fly fishing, canoe resort with 18 active tree house cabins and 2 more in progress.

What you might be doing..

Trail building, land clearing, housekeeping, gardening, landscaping, food service, hopefully we will have animals soon to take care of, and on your off time you can fish the best wild rainbow trout offering in the Midwest.

We really would like to be a “show and tell” real farm again, raising animals and growing garden and crop. We need someone to help us get this started and possibly become a paid worker

We need a live in teacher/worker to demonstrate to our vacationing guests and the local and electronic community what organic and sustainable is all about.

We are also looking for a cook for our kitchen, possible long term job opportunity there as well!

Where you’ll be staying..

Looking for helpers interested in remodeling homes. We buy ugly houses and make them pretty. We also need help in and around our own home. Happy to pay for additional hours of work as well. Willing to train anyone who is interested in learning. We ask for 4 hours of help per day, 5 days per week, in exchange for room and board, and then anything over the 4 hours would be paid time.

We ask that you do not prepare raw meat onsite. There are plenty of places to eat meat just 1/2 miles from the property. We are okay with fish and preparing seafood. Also okay for you to buy cooked meat and eat onsite, just no raw/uncooked meat (including raw chicken) products please. We make healthy meals for you while you are here, encourage you to make your own meals as our schedules are very hectic, or help in the kitchen with food prep.

We hope that we can share some culture with you while you are here with us. If you are looking for an American experience, we are truly the melting ... more inside

Hi everyone,

Jenny and Alex here! We moved to Detroit in 2013 after living in Asia for 5 years. Alex is originally from California and Jenny is from Hong Kong. We met in Germany through an internship and later fell in love in a hostel in Spain while road-tripping through wine country. Alex has a background in tech start-ups in NYC and California while Jenny worked in marketing for L`Oreal in Hong Kong and Germany.

We LOVE to travel and have lived and adventured throughout Europe and Asia extensively. In 2013 we decided to move back to the US and thought we would end up in California but when we heard they were tearing houses down in Detroit we decided to check it out. As any open-minded traveler knows, a good place can often be distorted by the media so we decided to do a road trip to see the city for ourselves. After driving into Detroit we fell in love with the city! People here have a lot of pride and heart. There is a spirit of resilience and you can feel the ener... more inside

We started our Vineyard back in 2004,it is located in a Beautiful,Quiet,Valley along the bluffs of the Mississippi River. We have five children that have now grown and moved out on there own. I just retired from a career of Process Instrument Work at the local power plant. I could use some help with the Vineyard and Gardens, but also enjoy fishing and boating on the river in the evenings and of course days off. We would be willing to supply your own bedroom, great meals and WiFi. We also have two Female Collies that love to get brushed and played with. The ideal person would have to be able to work on there own or in a small group, after some training of course to get you up to your comfort level, so as you basically understand what the goals might be for the time of year and tasks at hand, a five hour day,if the weather permits, is what we usually work . There might be a few longer days, but I`m sure that having time off to check out the area won`t be any problem. If you would car... more inside

The mission of our farm is to teach people how to be healthy through good nutrition, exercise, relationships, and a healthy lifestyle. We also provide healthy food for our customers and show them how to prepare it. We have a large garden and small CSA, we make maple syrup, we grow corn, soybeans, wheat, spelt and hay and we raise chickens for eggs, and grass-fed beef. We mill the wheat into flour and corn into cornmeal. We have a sawmill and make our own lumber. We have lots of events including maple sugaring open house, mushroom hunts, and fall festivals. We do other special events including hayrides, retreats, and weddings. We have finished our cabin at the lake and it is open for visitors and events. We love to have volunteers and some resist leaving because of the atmosphere. Send us an email. Hope to hear from you. My photos are mostly with former helpxers, I appear with the bull and pitchfork.

By the way, we have two horses that do not get enough work. Would you like to wor... more inside

Greetings! Since 2010, Wilder Thymes has hosted over 60 work exchange people, and the experiences have ranged everywhere from horrible to fantastic! All of that has led to where things stand now. Out of necessity, I have reduced the amount of things that I grow down to a fraction of what I used to, so that if I get into a situation where I don’t have any reliable help, that the farm is still manageable for me, and I am not stuck working day and night, never able to have any fun, and where I only get to sleep twice a week, just in order to maintain everything, and keep it going. That isn’t my idea of a good time! So less is more! But yet, I still try to grow enough stuff to make it amazing, diverse and worthwhile. It’s a delicate balance! Nevertheless, who really wants to do all this by themselves, right?!! That isn`t a whole lot of fun either, and hiring someone isn’t really feasible. So if I can find 1 or 2 good work exchange people to work with me, we can accomplish grea... more inside

We are on a 65 acre farm in North Pope County, Illinois and are virtually surrounded by the Shawnee National Forest. Having been on this farm for five years, we are still developing infrastructure and are continuing to plant in the orchard and various berries as well as establishing and expanding garden and crop areas.

We are a GMO, herbicide and pesticide free farm in all of our outdoor areas. As we are far away from "modern agricultural" property, we feel that we should have no problems with cross pollination of our crops with GMO's or damage/exposure from/to ag chemicals.

There are many projects currently in process or in the planning stages. This summer/fall we hope to get new water and electric lines ran to all the barns and the greenhouse as well as get a fiber studio framed in and get the finishing touches on the greenhouses.

Tasks on the farm are endless, so there are always things to do year round. Clearing brush, cutting wood, building fence, baling hay, sawin... more inside
