We have now hosted HelpXers for several years and love meeting folks from all over the world! We are a small farm and are considered an agri-tourism destination as we have a "Healing Spring" on the property. Discovered in 1883 the water from the spring has many curative powers. The spring is available for free to anyone who wants to come and get the water.

We are near many great hiking destinations, Mt. Rogers, Grayson Highlands State Park, Stone Mountain, Doughton Park and the many trails off of the Blue Ridge Parkway that crosses through our part of the state of North Carolina. We are just off of the New River with fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Additionally, the Virginia Creeper Trail, Rocky Knob Park and the Railroad Grade trail offer great biking opportunities. We are 10 minutes from the town of West Jefferson with a great Farmers Market and cute town with artisan shops. We are just a short driving distance several larger cities.

We prefer folks who are looking for a l... more inside

Please note this is a healing place and is an alcohol, drug and tobacco-free environment. Please don't apply if you can't honor our policies. Fine to go out for a beer or glass of wine or on special occasions here. This is a school for sustainable living, a working farm, and homestead. It is located in the Nantahala Mountains on the eastern side of the Blue Ridge Mountains, 10 miles south of the town of Franklin, North Carolina (120 miles N.E. of Atlanta, GA and 70 miles west of Asheville, NC). The center's 32 acres lie in the heart of a small valley with a stream fed by numerous springs and surrounded by national forest. The stream provides water for an off-grid hydro-electric system. The area is home to wild turkey, deer, bear, and has one of the largest diversities of plants anywhere in the world. Huge chestnut stumps, remains of 1800 log cabins, mill raceways, spring houses, century-old farming roads, and old still sites, are reminders of a people and a way of life based on an... more inside

Our family has been in the Carolina low-country since the 1670s, and here on this property since 1827. The farm and family have seen many changes throughout the centuries, and is looking to the future!

An experimental and educational farm/homestead, we are working to bring a high level of self-sufficiency/sustainability here and to share our knowledge with our visitors.

This is the farm's 9th year hosting visitors. Forty-four countries represented and over 350 guests staying, all have helped make the farm a better place. They have laughed, learned, sweated, plus they have help grow and have eaten some great food. We hope all that spend time here will take something positive away with them. Looking forward to another year of great helpers and guests!

***Now accepting volunteers for 2019, from July onward, **TWO week minimum stay**...May & June are fully booked, though we have room for folks who have their own camping gear.

Looking for a dog & cat sitter in exchange for a stay at an apartment close to downtown Asheville! Specifically looking for the dates of May 30-June 13 2019 (2 weeks).

You will be caring for two sweet pets. Donovan is a 3 year old English Pointer mix dog- roughly 50 lbs. He loves cuddling and hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Everest is a 7 year old indoor outdoor cat- does all his potty business outside (no litter box!) and comes inside at night. He loves to be little spoon and you will likely end up being sandwiched in cuddles from these two. Duties include daily walks (very beautiful trails within walking distance), twice a day feedings, potty breaks and companionship. Will be asked to water some houseplants as well.

The apartment is a private bedroom and bathroom in a quaint 3 bedroom apartment. The other roommates are in their early 20ís and very very sweet and kind! Youíll have all access to kitchen, washer dryer, free Starbucks coffee in the clubhouse, use of TV with ... more inside

We are a diverse homestead and community organizing center nestled in the Clear Creek Valley near Berea, Ky. We are surrounded by over four hundred acres of deciduous forests, hollers, spring-fed streams, and open bottom-land, where the Appalachian Foothills rise above the bluegrass. We are an intergenerational community, ranging in age from 1 year to 70, striving to learn how to live in place with long term integrity.

We garden using a variety of organic methods including permaculture. We preserve and ferment food and eat from the bounty of the land throughout the year. There are opportunities to connect with the edible and medicinal plants of the land through foraging and farming. Our community has orchards, mushroom logs and an established food forest. We take advantage of the unique growing conditions of these incredibly biodiverse Appalachian Foothills.

We host public events in our hundred-year-old schoolhouse. The Schoolhouse is home to concerts, theatrical performance... more inside

My heart beats for the feeling of having several common goals in life and sharing that experience with others on the same path.
a good motto? perhaps,
some people show up for a reason, a season, a life time or a lesson.

openness is the lubrication of life.

I have built some beds for gardening. and now need help going forward.
I work full time in construction and gardening is not a part time thing.
seeking a person or persons who love the land and its yeilds of produce and more? fresh eggs?

I can use help in completing projects, and starting more.some of you are so over talented for my small endeavor.

i don't know it all and I am teachable.
you will be value-able to help create the stage for those wanting to share communal values and lifestyles,
I have lived in several intentional communities locally. Always a life enriching experience. btw. my ego will support your life experience and suggestions, easily, lol..........
I am active in the couchsurfers commun... more inside

Located in the foothills of the Appalacian Mountains. Mostly wooded 40 acres with a beautiful stream and pond for swimming. Some land has been cleared for agriculture but this is more of a homesteading experience than strictly agricultural. In addition to gardening this is an opportunity to learn how to drive a tractor, harvest mushrooms, bake bread, use a chainsaw, paint a mural, build a house, help install a microhydro electrical system, cooking, canning and freezing, surveying, etc. etc. Your artistic contributions can also go toward covering room and board.

Facilities for visitors vary from; a room in a shared house, rustic living in a 19th century one room schoolhouse, an "A" frame tiny house or camping. Short term visitors are welcome with camping available and possible work for meals. Long term folks are asked to work 25 hours/week for room and meals. Total numbers of visitors at any one time will be in the 1 to 4 range. "Quickie" trial visits can be arranged.
