My husband and I have a small farm, that has a lot of growing to do.
We raise sheep and have two donkeys, chickens and ducks with two black barn cats, and no children. We hope for cultural exchanges along with 4 to 5 hours of help, 5 days out of the week, not including meal prep and clean-up. Spring is upon us, so fertilizing and trimming bushes around the farm needs to be done. Irrigation and drip systems are in the works, and an absolute must for farming success.
We are currently working on an outside shower supplied by filtered rain water for cooling off in the summer and keeping the funk outside. By experience, it is amazing to use.
Our recent somewhat lengthy trip to New Zealand is where we learned so much about sustainability. This trip opened up a world of ideas needed to live on our own with very little outside intervention.
We are finishing up a hoop house with long raised beds to maintain soil quality and provide crops in the colder months. A seeding shelter for pr... more inside

We are not hosting any helpers during the Covid 19 pandemic.

Small homestead farm in the Appalachian Mountains striving for a "greener" existence here by growing our own organic vegetables, eggs and chicken. We are developing orchards, berry patches and pasture land. There are 3 children, 2 dogs, a cat, a bunch of chickens, lots of deer and wild turkey, a fox and occasionally a bear. We provide a large room w private bath. Other "ammenities" include a small swimming pool, trampoline, bikes, and now a zip line!

We have hosted 84 travelers during the last 12 years through the WWOOF program and more recently through HelpX. Long term stays are preferred, but will make exceptions for international travelers. Our rules here are simple; Be Safe, Be Kind, and Be respectful. Also, no tobacco or drug use!!

We are 25 minutes from Asheville, North Carolina, which is a great town. Lots of good restaurants, almost 2 dozen breweries, tons of festivals, great bluegrass music and lots... more inside

We have now hosted HelpXers for several years and love meeting folks from all over the world! We are a small farm and are considered an agri-tourism destination as we have a "Healing Spring" on the property. Discovered in 1883 the water from the spring has many curative powers. The spring is available for free to anyone who wants to come and get the water.

We are near many great hiking destinations, Mt. Rogers, Grayson Highlands State Park, Stone Mountain, Doughton Park and the many trails off of the Blue Ridge Parkway that crosses through our part of the state of North Carolina. We are just off of the New River with fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Additionally, the Virginia Creeper Trail, Rocky Knob Park and the Railroad Grade trail offer great biking opportunities. We are 10 minutes from the town of West Jefferson with a great Farmers Market and cute town with artisan shops. We are just a short driving distance several larger cities.

We raise Belted Galloway cattle, herita... more inside

***Accepting folks during the Covid-19 pandemic as long as they have practiced social distancing & can drive to the farm.***

Our family has been in the Carolina low-country since the 1670s, and here on this property since 1827. The farm and family have seen many changes throughout the centuries, and is looking to the future!

An experimental and educational farm/homestead, we are working to bring a high level of self-sufficiency/sustainability here and to share our knowledge with our visitors.

This is the farm's 10th year hosting visitors. Forty-seven countries represented and over 390 guests staying, all have helped make the farm a better place. They have laughed, learned, sweated, plus they have help grow and have eaten some great food. We hope all that spend time here will take something positive away with them. Looking forward to another year of great helpers and guests!

Hi there,

We are thrilled to have just bought our new home with 6 acres near the picturesque, quaint town of Marshall NC, just 30 minutes northwest of Asheville. Our dream is to eventually create a writer retreat made up of tree houses and other unique dwelling units surrounding a gathering house where writers can completely isolate or commune with other writers as they wish.

We will begin with converting the main house basement into a one bedroom apartment. It is already walled with gas, water, a bathroom and is part of the house heating and cooling system, but we need someone to help put in flooring, half walls, and a small kitchen, and to help make it an eclectic, spirited, comfortable home.

We intend to start a small organic garden plot, raise chickens, and build a paver-stone coy pond at the main house. We will also be cutting trails to move comfortably through the moderately steep terrain. Eventually we will build a gathering lodge for the tree houses and then TREE ... more inside

I just bought an empty lot. I want to turn the property into a tiny house village.

If you have interests in tiny houses, carpentry, gardening, interior design, or just want to see the greatest city in america, new orleans, then you've found the right place.

In exchange for work once to 4 times a week, I can offer an infinite amount of housing and food. If you have zero skills and can assist with grabbing tools and giving me advice then I can take you in as well. I am not picky. There has been a few people who never did any work due to lack of opportunity, and I was perfectly OK with that. They were still willing to help and that's the biggest part.

Depending on how well we get along, we have this policy that we work hard and play hard. Mardi gras, french quarter fest, bayou boogaloo, 2nd lines, blackpot, buskers fest yada yada are some of the best reasons to explore Louisiana and I go to all of these events. Come on guys, let's have some fun down south.

-- Sorry, we are unable to host helpers until after August 11, 2020 --

Bienvenue à St. Martin ! Welcome to St. Martinville !

Would you like to help restore a part of history? Our home on the town square is steps away from Bayou Teche and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. While neither elegant nor lavish, our modestly appointed humble home does come with a few interesting architectural details, plus lots of hands-on opportunities for volunteers.

We are native Cajuns (Acadians) who speak Louisiana French, international French, and English. We are glad to help connect you to your favorite activities (music? dance? outdoors?). You can also walk to museums, restaurants, doughnut shop, thrift store, library, convenience stores, post office, tennis, and parks. Festivals take place frequently in this region, and some are even within walking distance. A kayak/canoe launch is just one block away.

Exterior carpentry and painting are a priority right now, but ... more inside

Help a family with disabilities to maintain a 5 acre homestead in Savannah, GA and improve a tiny farm on a bridgeless Island.

Over a year ago, I dismanteled the oldest house in Hardeeville, SC.  Now I am processing the tons of salvaged lumber for several homestead improvement projects.  Four or five days a week I and my crew are sorting, cleaning, grading, planing and routing the lumber for flooring, beams, and sale.  Eventually we will begin installing this wood in my buildings.

When I'm not enjoying the recyled wood project, you can find me on a boat, a bicycle, swimming, traveling, or lost (and found) in yoga poses.  I am also a housewife to a a disabled US Marine Vet who was diagnosed with High Function Autism in 2012. He loves our Savannah homestead and rarely leaves it.  He has an artists eye and as a result our place is visually pleasing, balanced, orderly, clean.

I also kitchen garden in zone 8b, which is a joy and a challenge.  I grow and wild gather more food th... more inside
