One thing I can advise helpers who want to get a placement with any host is to have at least one PICTURE of YOURSELF. Just as you like to "see" who and where you`re coming, hosts like to see who they`re opening their home to.
It's Autumn now so there's always lots to do outside in the garden. Knowledge of Carpentry and plumbing are always appreciated. Organizing is good too. I do need someone who isn't afraid to help with painting the roof and car mechanics are always helpful. I would really appreciate someone who can do handyman jobs and wants to come for a week or two. I sell things online and on eBay and would love someone who is good at writing descriptions in English.
I have a large house and property in a diverse area of Staten Island, New York that I`m always working on.
I plant a vegetable garden in the spring using the square foot gardening method. A friend and I rebuilt the whole house on the inside including jacking it up and replacing the foundation, sills and bea... more inside

** Openings April - October 2020 **

We are located in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. We live in a quiet hollow, with no neighbors in sight. There are no city lights, and you can see every star on a clear night!

Running a homestead is hard but rewarding work. Homesteading is not for the faint of heart. It requires a certain strength of character to chose such a life.

We have a lot you can be involved in, knowledge to share, friendships to build, and opportunities for growth. Below are our daily routines, projects, and wish list. We would love to involve you!

- Caring for our horse, chickens, ducks, cats, dog, and honey bees. Sue is a fourth generation beekeeper and has much knowledge to share.

- General landscaping upkeep such as mowing and weed whacking.

- Caring for young fruit trees.

- Plant, cultivate, and harvest fruits and vegetables including Shiitake mushrooms. Assist with home-canning (preserving) of fruits and vegetables. Extending th... more inside

We are a vibrant farming and handcrafting community of about 110 people that includes adults with developmental disabilities. Our residents, living and participating side by side, create a dynamic and caring community for people of all ages and varied abilities. Located on 432 acres of farm, gardens and woodlands in Chester County, Pennsylvania, we are also a local center for culture and a model for sound ecological living.

Each year about 25 volunteers join our community for an immersive and meaningful year-long experience; we do also have some interns join us for 1-3 months as well. Volunteers have their own room in one of our "family" style lifesharing houses and receive all their meals there as well. Most volunteers will spend about half time helping in one of our houses and half in one of our agricultural and craft workshops, which include a weavery, pottery, mosaic studio, fiber arts, bakery, cafe, or bio-dynamic gardens, orchard and dairy farm.

We are the best of friends who live together and run a 24-hour café in Oneonta, New York. We built our rustic Deli with our own hands, using old rustic barn wood and other recycled materials. We love working together to serve good, wholesome food in a warm, encouraging environment — a haven from the storms of life.

Our community is part of a worldwide network of communities, many of which also run cafes, organic farms, and cottage industries where volunteers are also welcome to live and work with us.

We all work together in our houses and at our café. There is a lot to do in maintaining a community. We have two large houses and a café that need constant care and attention. We enjoy having guests and volunteers who want to get to know us by living and working with us.

We gather together every morning (at 7am) and evening (at 6pm) to express whatever is on our hearts, to sing and dance, and to give thanks to our Creator before sitting down at the table to share our meals to... more inside

21 October 2019 Update

Hello, I'm Martin! Come visit Dave and me as we build an intentional community which supports and encourages its members to become better versions of themselves. We consciously try to treat ourselves, each other, and the environment gently.

Roosevelt said “For those who fight for it life has a flavor the sheltered will never know.” We live a lifestyle of voluntary poverty which is filled with discovery, adventure and real, live, human interaction (Gasp!). Occasionally, we are without electricity, water or heat. We have become very skilled at adapting and overcoming. The skills and attitudes cultivated here are vital for survival in a post-collapse society.

No, we are not some kind of Doomsday Cult. Frankly, an apocolyptic bang would be nice. Unfortunately, myself and those around me see a future where 10% of the population live comfortably while the rest of us malinger in their squalor. Governments are not moving fast enough to combat climate change, ... more inside

Our farm-house is on 46 acres of pasture and wood accessed via dirt road. Not all mobile phones can get a signal here, and we don't have WiFi. We keep chickens for eggs, we garden for fresh veggies, and we preserve vegetables and meat to enjoy during the winter.

We'll consider your interest and ability when handing out tasks, which might include some of the following: gardening, canning, crafts, hide tanning, cooking, cleaning, tending animals, and so on. Of course we'll teach you what you don't know how to do.

We're primarily interested in people who want to enjoy life on the farm and intend to spend most of their time there. It's best if you can be satisfied on the homestead because we are far from town and town is small. We can take you with us on supply runs, fishing, etc. So there certainly will be time away from home as well.

Current projects:
Build fencing for bison and goats.
Stockpile firewood for the winter
Build wood-fired hot-tub

We are an ecovillage and intentional community of 100 people on 485 acres in central Virginia. We welcome visitors throughout the year to participate in the life of our agrarian, feminist, communal village. We are open to all different kinds of people, and we particularly welcome people of color, women, and queer folks.

The initial stay is a structured Three-Week Period, during which time visitors take part in our work areas (gardening, food processing, making tofu, weaving hammocks, and a lot more) and also the social life of the community (gathering/parties and activities like yoga, singing, swimming, canoeing, etc.)

You will be housed in a ten-bedroom, two-bath cottage. We provide meals (vegan, vegetarian, meat) and can accommodate some special diet needs. Sorry, no children or pets.

*Accepting internship applications for May-September 2020.*

Unadilla Community Farm was founded in 2013 by a group of volunteers dedicated to the goals of the back-to-the-land movement. We are building an off-grid solar-powered homestead and education center following the principles of organic agriculture and permaculture design. We are situated on 12 acres of field and forest, alongside a growing Amish community in central New York State.

2020 is our 7th season welcoming interns. Our accredited internship program has attracted interns from North & South America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and New Zealand. Interns gain hands-on experience in no-till organic farming, regenerative agroforestry, permaculture, natural building, and food preservation. University students in the U.S. & Canada have earned course credits for our internship program (ask your advisor if you are eligible to earn credit too!).

Our internship is more than just a beginning farmer training program. It is an im... more inside
