One thing I can advise helpers who want to get a placement with any host is to have at least one PICTURE of YOURSELF. Just as you like to "see" who and where you`re coming, hosts like to see who they`re opening their home to.
It's Spring now so there's always lots to do in the garden getting ready for planting. Knowledge of Carpentry and plumbing are always appreciated. Organizing is good too. I do need someone who isn't afraid to help with roofing when the weather turns warmer and car mechanics are always helpful. I would really appreciate someone who can do handyman jobs and wants to come for a week or two. I sell things online and on eBay and would love someone who is good at writing descriptions in English and also anyone who is experienced at building websites.
I have a large house and property in a diverse area of Staten Island, New York that I`m always working on.
I plant a vegetable garden in the spring using the square foot gardening method. A friend and I rebuilt th... more inside

I am looking for like-minded individuals to co-create an intentional community of neurodiverse people who share similar humanist values; particularly, secularism and human flourishing. I think of this place as "Marty's Island of Misfit People". It's an oasis for all square-pegs, misfits, geeks, black sheep, odd-balls, Aspies, strange and quirky people. Here you can be yourself - you don't have to "pass" with us. You don't have to explain to us or hide that wierd thing you do - I don't know what it is, but we all have strange little things - stims or behaviors. It's OK here, we get it - because we do it too. For example, my hands have calluses on them from a strange rubbing motion I do subconsciously.

You are probably between the ages of 27 and 40. You have never felt as if you really fit in; but you are fine with that because you always have been true to yourself. In fact, the truth is very important to you. You probably have lost friends over the truth. Perhaps like me, you have... more inside

I need help managing my garden, my land, and working on my home. I'm looking for 3-4 hrs of help a day. It can be very flexible. Some paid work may be available with me doing work for others. I have many years of gardening, and home repair under my belt. I traveled years ago work trading on farms, and homesteads. I'm a handyman by trade these days. I can teach about building trades, gardening, plant identification, and more. I live along a 57 mile long trail called the New River Trail. It's a rails to trails state park. It's a seven mile bike ride on the path to the closest town. I have bicycles to use. There is a river close by, I have a canoe. My land has a spring, a creek, hills, meadow, forest, and wetlands.
Accommodations are modest. I have an extra bedroom, and matress. We will likely renovate that room this summer. There are plenty of places to camp as well. There are no flush toilets, i have a composting toilet. Hot showers are available. There is e... more inside

Currently seeking volunteers for the following

Baltimore, MD

--------------------------------------------------

I have a tastefully restored classic row-house in Baltimore, Maryland.

I am a professional in my early forties who works full time in Washington, DC and owns a home in Baltimore, MD. The Baltimore home is a restored 19th century townhouse and I have five bedrooms that I share with roommates. Since I work full time and spend a lot of time commuting, sometimes I need some help keeping the home clean and with errands like trash/recycling and dishes.

As for me, I speak conversational Spanish and some French, and can read any Romance language. I work in International Finance and have traveled the world and I love meeting people from new places. I am friendly and get along well with people, though I do expect that work will be performed with a good work ethic. I ... more inside

**** Looking for help planting our vegetable garden. ****

We are located in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. We live in a quiet hollow, with no neighbors in sight. There are no city lights, and you can see every star on a clear night!

Running a homestead is hard but rewarding work. Homesteading is not for the faint of heart. It requires a certain strength of character to chose such a life. Homesteading should not be confused with farming.

We have a lot you can be involved in, knowledge to share, friendships to build, and opportunities for growth.

Below are our daily routines, projects, and wish list. We would love to involve you!

- Caring for our horse, chickens, ducks, cats, dog, and honey bees. Sue is a fourth generation beekeeper and has much knowledge to share.

- General landscaping upkeep.

- Caring for young fruit trees.

- Plant, cultivate, harvest fruits and vegetables; Assist with home-canning (preserving) of fruits and vegetables. Ex... more inside

We are not your typical American family, farm stay or community. I garden extensively, have chickens, cattle. bees - somewhat like a homestead. We live in an intentional community of 60 adults and 12 or so kids and teens. We own about 500 acres of land together. Our community has been going strong for 45 years. We are based on co operative living and decision making, taking care of our beautiful land and promoting land stewardship and harmonious relationships. We are a 10 acre homestead in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. We have a "Certified Naturally Grown" orchard and make artisanal apple cider vinegars. We sell our vinegars at farmers markets and local organic stores. Our Homestead is 10 miles outside of a small town with two colleges (lots of cultural activities). If you are interested in apple cider vinegar making and orchard management, then you would probably find a visit with us to be enjoyable.

We are a happy, busy family of four with two indoor cats and one dog. We are looking for helpers able to do both gardening/yard work and indoor projects including painting, minor home repairs, and light housekeeping. We have two school aged kids, so assistance with childcare also might be needed. We are right on the bus route to the Staten Island Ferry (about a 10 minute ride) making our little corner of the Island very convenient to Manhattan by public transportation. We are a perfect location for someone looking to spend time exploring the best of the city alternated with time supporting our busy family. Flexibility is essential.

*Now accepting interns for the 2019 season (May-September).*

We are building an off-the-grid homestead and education center following the principles of organic agriculture and permaculture design. We are situated on 12 acres of field and forest, in the rural hamlet of West Edmeston, located alongside a growing Amish community in central New York State.

Our accredited internship program has attracted interns from North & South America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and New Zealand. Interns will gain hands-on experience in low-till organic farming, regenerative agroforestry, permaculture, natural building, and food preservation. We are seeking interns interested in disconnecting from the mainstream, learning to support ourselves by growing our own organic produce, utilizing natural building methods to construct our barn and dwelling structures, making our own household products like soap and shampoo, reviving traditional agricultural and lifestyle practices, and living in community.
