My husband and I bought and live in a 130 year-old house in a beautiful small town on a River in New Bern, North Carolina, and there`s much to be done!

Here are some projects we could use a helper or two (if you can share a Queen sized bed) for -- it is important that you have experience/an interest in restoring old homes:
- tearing out rotten wood from the front porch ceiling & replacing it
- a handful of flooring details (trim, thresholds, etc.)
- landscaping (we have a large beautiful backyard and no time to work it)// building a back patio/deck of some sort?
- replacing a front door & a window
- staining & solidifying back steps

We offer a private bedroom with a queen size bed, linens, a shared bathroom, drawer space, a TV, a desk, and shared kitchen access in exchange for 5 hours of work a day (M-F). You`ll be working on your own for the most part, as Keith and I both have full-time jobs, so you must be self-sufficient. We will provide the tools and materials you`... more inside

One thing I can advise helpers who want to get a placement with any host is to have at least one PICTURE of YOURSELF. Just as you like to "see" who and where you`re coming, hosts like to see who they`re opening their home to.

The weather is warming up now so there is lots to do outside in the garden. Knowledge of Carpentry and Plumbing are always appreciated. I do need someone who isn't afraid to help with painting the roof, when the weather is warmer and car mechanics are always helpful. I would really appreciate someone who can do handyman jobs and wants to come for a week or two. I sell things online and on eBay and would love someone who is good at writing descriptions in English.
I have a large house and property in a diverse area of Staten Island, New York that I`m always working on.
I plant a vegetable garden in the spring using the square foot gardening method. A friend and I rebuilt the whole house on the inside including jacking it up and replacing the foundation,... more inside

We are a vibrant farming and handcrafting community of about 110 people that includes adults with developmental disabilities. Our residents, living and participating side by side, create a dynamic and caring community for people of all ages and varied abilities. Located on 432 acres of farm, gardens and woodlands in Chester County, Pennsylvania, we are also a local center for culture and a model for sound ecological living.

Each year about 25 volunteers join our community for an immersive and meaningful year-long experience; we do also have some interns join us for 1-3 months as well. Volunteers have their own room in one of our "family" style lifesharing houses and receive all their meals there as well. Most volunteers will spend about half time helping in one of our houses and half in one of our agricultural and craft workshops, which include a weavery, pottery, mosaic studio, fiber arts, bakery, cafe, or bio-dynamic gardens, orchard and dairy farm.

Our 100+ acre farm and cafe are a part of a worldwide network of communities, many of which also run cafes, organic farms, and cottage industries where volunteers are also welcome to stay with us in exchange for participation in our busy life. We currently have goats, ducks, chickens, cattle, and honey bees. We care for our animals to provide milk and eggs. We are now endeavoring to grow and process our own grain to provide non-GMO flour for ourselves and feed for our animals. We would love some support in establishing our granary and infrastructure surrounding it. We also run a café in the tiny town of Oak Hill, New York. We built our rustic Deli with our own hands, using old rustic barn wood and other recycled materials. We love working together to serve good, wholesome food in a warm, encouraging environment.
Help with animal care, household chores, and even some work in our cafe are much needed and very welcome.

We all work together in our houses, on the farm and at our c... more inside

** Openings August - September 2020 **

We are located in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. We live in a quiet hollow, with no neighbors in sight. There are no city lights, and you can see every star on a clear night!

Running a homestead is hard but rewarding work. Homesteading is not for the faint of heart. It requires a certain strength of character to chose such a life.

We have a lot you can be involved in, knowledge to share, friendships to build, and opportunities for growth. Below are our daily routines, projects, and wish list. We would love to involve you!

- Caring for our horse, chickens, ducks, cats, dog, and honey bees. Sue is a fourth generation beekeeper and has much knowledge to share.

- General landscaping upkeep such as mowing and weed whacking.

- Caring for fruit trees.

- Plant, cultivate, and harvest fruits and vegetables. Assist with home-canning (preserving) of fruits and vegetables.

- We have various construction and home... more inside

UPDATE: September 12, 2020

Howdy Traveler!

/////

Business and life suspended because of Covid-19. Feel free to contact me to dream about life returning to normal!

/////

We are located 8km west of the atlantic ocean. To the east of us is a 40mile resort strip which runs north and south. If you enjoy water and outdoor activities, you will like it here. Swimming, surfing, kayaking, trails it is all here. And we are only 200km from Baltimore, Washington, and Phillidelphia. New York city is a little farther - but all the cities are close enough for day trips.

During the last five years I have hosted over two-dozen people from countries such as Austria, Aruba, Belgium, Brazil, Jamaica, Egypt, Germany, Palestine, Romania, Russia and of course, the United States. I have a lot of stories to tell from those guests. I already have a story about fishing a tire out of a 'gator infested swamp, to a helper singeing his eyebrows off by lighting a jet we built with a cigar... more inside

We are a homeschooling family of 5 people and 3 cats who live in suburban Queens in 75-year old house and we could use help with the general maintenance/repairs.
The structure is sound, but it needs lots of cosmetic work and repairs.
There is no dearth of work that needs to be done.

We do *NOT* need help with daily household assistance, child care, or cooking. We prefer HelpXers in their 30s or older or couples. If you are still in your 20s and interested, please discuss your work ethic and work knowledge/experience in your request.

WE NEED INDEPENDENT SELF-STARTERS WHO DO NOT NEED CONSTANT SUPERVISION AND ASSISTANCE FROM US AND WHO ARE WILLING TO TAKE THE INITIATIVE TO COMPLETE TASKS AND COME TO US WITH QUESTIONS OR PROBLEMS AS THEY ARISE! ALSO IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO PUT IN THE HOURS PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND AS WORK ETHIC IS VERY IMPORTANT TO US.

WE NEED HELP WITH BIGGER AND SEASONAL WORK:
gardening (weeding, pruning, raking);
spackling and painting (interio... more inside

*Accepting internship applications for May-September 2020.*

This community farm was founded in 2013 by a group of volunteers dedicated to the goals of the back-to-the-land movement. We are building an off-grid solar-powered homestead and education center following the principles of organic agriculture and permaculture design. We are situated on 12 acres of field and forest, alongside a growing Amish community in central New York State.

2020 is our 7th season welcoming interns. Our accredited internship program has attracted interns from North & South America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and New Zealand. Interns gain hands-on experience in no-till organic farming, regenerative agroforestry, permaculture, natural building, and food preservation. University students in the U.S. & Canada have earned course credits for our internship program (ask your advisor if you are eligible to earn credit too!).

Our internship is more than just a beginning farmer training program. It is an immers... more inside
