Learn about suburban regeneration and community involvement at our four year old suburban permaculture site in our well cared for home. I am a science teacher and work full time and am looking for help with my young food forest and moving my home toward minimalism.

You will learn a lot by helping me with:

Spring maintenance of site which includes:
Mulching with onsite shredded leaves (leaves must be raked and shredded on site)
Removing dead and undesirable plants and composting
Building trellises for brambles (blackberries and raspberries)
Pruning (I will teach you)
Minimizing (helping remove unneeded items from garden and home)

20 hours/week. Our food is mostly but not all organic and we are semi vegetarian. We are in a lovely area with ocean and bay beaches, lakes, forests and lots of art culture. We are about an hour and a half from NYC so you could visit use before or after your time there. Our family is involved in the community so if you are interested in ... more inside

**Looking for Helpers for 2019!**

Peaceful Hollow Homestead is located in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. We live in a quiet hollow, with no neighbors in sight. There are no city lights, and you can see every star on a clear night!

Running a homestead is hard but rewarding work. Homesteading is not for the faint of heart. It requires a certain strength of character to chose such a life.

We could always use an extra set of hands to accomplish our projects and keep everything running smoothly. We have a lot you can be involved in.

Some things we need your help with:
- Caring for our horse, chickens, ducks, cats and dog. If you are not allergic to honey bees, you may help us with our beekeeping.

- General landscaping upkeep.

- Caring for young fruit trees.

- Plant, cultivate, harvest fruits and vegetables; Assist with home-canning (preserving) of fruits and vegetables. Extending the herb garden.

- We have various ongoing construction and home ... more inside

One thing I can advise helpers who want to get a placement with any host is to have at least one PICTURE of YOURSELF. Just as you like to "see" who and where you`re coming, hosts like to see who they`re opening their home to.
It's cold Winter now so there isn't much to do in the garden. Knowledge of Carpentry and plumbing are always appreciated. I do need someone who can do flat roof rubber roofing when the weather turns warmer and car mechanics. I would really appreciate someone who can do handyman jobs and wants to come for a week or two. I sell things online and on eBay and would love someone who is good at writing descriptions in English and also anyone who is experienced at building websites.
I have a large house and property in a diverse area of Staten Island, New York that I`m always working on.
I plant a vegetable garden in the spring using the square foot gardening method. A friend and I rebuilt the whole house on the inside including jacking it up and replacing the ... more inside

I am looking for like-minded individuals to co-create an intentional community of neurodiverse people who share similar humanist values; particularly, secularism and human flourishing. I think of this place as "Marty's Island of Misfit People". It's an oasis for all square-pegs, misfits, geeks, black sheep, odd-balls, Aspies, strange and quirky people. Here you can be yourself - you don't have to "pass" with us. You don't have to explain to us or hide that wierd thing you do - I don't know what it is, but we all have strange little things - stims or behaviors. It's OK here, we get it - because we do it too. For example, my hands have calluses on them from a strange rubbing motion I do subconsciously.

You are probably between the ages of 27 and 40. You have never felt as if you really fit in; but you are fine with that because you always have been true to yourself. In fact, the truth is very important to you. You probably have lost friends over the truth. Perhaps like me, you have... more inside

Our Meditation Center in New York is an internationally renowned center for meditation, where everyone is welcome to enjoy a peaceful environment or join in the many programs offered throughout the year. We have a World Peace Temple situated on 82 acres of grounds, including nature trails.

Our next opening begins on March 24th! In particular, we are looking for volunteers interested in helping with outdoor landscaping, and in particular building rock walls to beautify the grounds. All the skills needed will be taught; all that is required is a love for physically oriented and meaningful work!

Our working visit program is a great way to experience life at a Buddhist retreat Center, learn about Buddhism & meditation, and put your compassion and love for others into action. In exchange for volunteering, working visitors receive dormitory accommodation and three vegetarian buffets a day. The working visit also includes general program classes, courses, and group meditations that h... more inside

Currently seeking volunteers for the following

Baltimore, MD

-- December 5 2018 - ---------->

--------------------------------------------------

I have a tastefully restored classic row-house in Baltimore, Maryland.

I am a professional in my early forties who works full time in Washington, DC and owns a home in Baltimore, MD. The Baltimore home is a restored 19th century townhouse and I have five bedrooms that I share with roommates. Since I work full time and spend a lot of time commuting, sometimes I need some help keeping the home clean and with errands like trash/recycling and dishes.

As for me, I speak conversational Spanish and some French, and can read any Romance language. I work in International Finance and have traveled the world and I love meeting people from new places. I am friendly and get along well with people, though I do expect that work wi... more inside

We are long-time urban homesteaders committed to revitalizing our neighborhood, which is nestled along the west bank of Genesee River in southwest Rochester. We have rejuvenated over 30 homes, nurtured fruits, vegetables, flowers and bees on unused land, and have tried to breathe new life into an area in need of re-investment and community-building. Nearly every week we host a potluck dinner for friends and renters. In addition to hosting HelpX and other volunteers, we've had renters from over 40 countries, and presently (Feb.2018) we have tenants from Cameroon, China, Colombia, Germany, Ghana, Honduras, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Somalia and Uruguay, and of course throughout the United States.

HelpXers would assist us with tasks ranging from
- gardening development and maintenance at the Gandhi Institute, Lots of Food sites, Mt. Pleasant Park garden and on other reclaimed neighborhood land,
- property renovations and maintenance, as well as landscaping and yard care
- sor... more inside

Our 100+ acre farm and cafe are a part of a worldwide network of communities, many of which also run cafes, organic farms, and cottage industries where volunteers are also welcome to stay with us in exchange for participation in our busy life. We currently have goats, ducks, chickens, cattle, and honey bees. We care for our animals to provide milk and eggs. We are now endeavoring to grow and process our own grain to provide non-GMO flour for ourselves and feed for our animals. We would love some support in establishing our granary and infrastructure surrounding it. We also run a café in the tiny town of Oak Hill, New York. We built our rustic Deli with our own hands, using old rustic barn wood and other recycled materials. We love working together to serve good, wholesome food in a warm, encouraging environment.
Help with animal care, household chores, and even some work in our cafe are much needed and very welcome.

We all work together in our houses, on the farm and at our c... more inside
