UPDATE: JANUARY 2020
A NEW YEAR WITH NEW GOALS

Howdy Traveler!

Out with the old and in with the new, 2020. Hello, I'm Martin. My goal is to be the Mushroom King of the Eastern Shore! Will you come hang out with me and help?

I am a happily divorced, 51 year-old man with a vision. I want to expand the current regional farm-to-table model, dominated by produce and fish.I plan to offer locally grown gormet mushrooms to the current market, while also providing valueable chicken waste disposal solutions. I expect sales channels to be both to the restraunts and direct to consumer via produce wagon.

As of Friday, 03 January I have acquired commercial office and grow space,as well as orderedspores and substrate. Today I began cleaning, and I expect by next week to have offices and clean rooms and grow areas built. April I expect my first flush (crop) and I should have a Mushroom Stand built at a very busy intersection with a produce stand across the street.

I used to ... more inside

** Openings April - October 2020 **

We are located in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. We live in a quiet hollow, with no neighbors in sight. There are no city lights, and you can see every star on a clear night!

Running a homestead is hard but rewarding work. Homesteading is not for the faint of heart. It requires a certain strength of character to chose such a life.

We have a lot you can be involved in, knowledge to share, friendships to build, and opportunities for growth. Below are our daily routines, projects, and wish list. We would love to involve you!

- Caring for our horse, chickens, ducks, cats, dog, and honey bees. Sue is a fourth generation beekeeper and has much knowledge to share.

- General landscaping upkeep such as mowing and weed whacking.

- Caring for young fruit trees.

- Plant, cultivate, and harvest fruits and vegetables including Shiitake mushrooms. Assist with home-canning (preserving) of fruits and vegetables. Extending th... more inside

One thing I can advise helpers who want to get a placement with any host is to have at least one PICTURE of YOURSELF. Just as you like to "see" who and where you`re coming, hosts like to see who they`re opening their home to.
It's Winter now so there's not much to do outside in the garden. Knowledge of Carpentry and plumbing are always appreciated. Organizing is good too. I do need someone who isn't afraid to help with painting the roof, when the weather is warmer and car mechanics are always helpful. I would really appreciate someone who can do handyman jobs and wants to come for a week or two. I sell things online and on eBay and would love someone who is good at writing descriptions in English.
I have a large house and property in a diverse area of Staten Island, New York that I`m always working on.
I plant a vegetable garden in the spring using the square foot gardening method. A friend and I rebuilt the whole house on the inside including jacking it up and replacing the ... more inside

This year, 2020, I am looking for anyone who has home carpenter experience.
************************************************

I have 8 alpacas and 4 mini horses. It would be wonderful if whoever came could be handy in general help. Once a month, I have 2 sheds that the alpacas hang out in. They need to be cleared every 3-4 days.

I have an Irish wolfhound, a 3 legged mini schnauzer, 3 carts and a beagle.

I have a huge living area downstairs that I would love to clear. It has 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and a living room area. I would LOVE to have it cleared. I have been using it as a storage area.

There are many beautiful sites to see around here and many places to visit. Depending on time, I could drive you to many places and activities. I moved away from New York City 10 years ago, and am familiar with many places you may want to visit. There is also a MegaBus Company you can travel on to go to NYC for a trip, or to Niagara. Check out their website.

You must be... more inside

We are a vibrant farming and handcrafting community of about 110 people that includes adults with developmental disabilities. Our residents, living and participating side by side, create a dynamic and caring community for people of all ages and varied abilities. Located on 432 acres of farm, gardens and woodlands in Chester County, Pennsylvania, we are also a local center for culture and a model for sound ecological living.

Each year about 25 volunteers join our community for an immersive and meaningful year-long experience; we do also have some interns join us for 1-3 months as well. Volunteers have their own room in one of our "family" style lifesharing houses and receive all their meals there as well. Most volunteers will spend about half time helping in one of our houses and half in one of our agricultural and craft workshops, which include a weavery, pottery, mosaic studio, fiber arts, bakery, cafe, or bio-dynamic gardens, orchard and dairy farm.

We are the best of friends who live together and run a 24-hour café in Oneonta, New York. We built our rustic Deli with our own hands, using old rustic barn wood and other recycled materials. We love working together to serve good, wholesome food in a warm, encouraging environment — a haven from the storms of life.

Our community is part of a worldwide network of communities, many of which also run cafes, organic farms, and cottage industries where volunteers are also welcome to live and work with us.

We all work together in our houses and at our café. There is a lot to do in maintaining a community. We have two large houses and a café that need constant care and attention. We enjoy having guests and volunteers who want to get to know us by living and working with us.

We gather together every morning (at 7am) and evening (at 6pm) to express whatever is on our hearts, to sing and dance, and to give thanks to our Creator before sitting down at the table to share our meals to... more inside
