We are reclaiming an old field to plant a food forest and need help peeling spruce and pine poles for use in some of our primitive / natural building projects. We are building a circular thatched hut, wattle and daud outdoor kitchen and an earthlodge for infrastructure. All of which need lots of poles! The way in which we clear land emphasizes interconnected systems and utilizing all parts of the trees as a way to honor and create a deeper relationship to them. We make water tight folded bark baskets out of pine bark or use them for roof shingles, cut mulch logs for long term nutrient release for tree in the food forest, burn smaller brush to alkalize the soil, use ideal sections of trees for firewood, peel poles for building, use the peeled bark for tanning hides, feed our goats and rabbits with some of the bark and branches, pollard hardwoods for winter animal forage and re-mineralizing food forest gardens, etc. Some other projects we may need help with are gardening, cobbing some... more inside

Come join the schooner AJ Meerwald! She is an original, 90 year-old oyster schooner. The work can be hard but rewarding. If you are willing to be challenged, have a positive attitude, and enjoy being part of a team and the feel of family, then this might be for you! In exchange for your help you will be getting a bed/berth to sleep in, 3 meals a day from a cook, as well as learning all about sailing and the environment of the bays and rivers in New England. We would prefer helpers who can stay a month or more (That way you can really use the sailing knowledge we will teach you and you can visit more ports!) There will of course be days off so that you can see the interesting sights in the areas we sail to, plus the crew often hosts and is also invited to awesome events! We sail all around the State of New Jersey and also in the New York and Chesapeake Bay areas teaching young students and the public about history, sailing, and the environment. Our home port of Bivalve is surrounded... more inside

We live in the historic Rondout neighborhood of Kingston, NY. I am looking for people with experience related to home repairs and improvements, as well as gardeners.

You would have a private bedroom, and shared use of the common areas of the house. This arrangement would not include meals. However, you would be welcome to use any secondary ingredients, as well as coffee and tea.

We have a dog and three cats.

We are a small hill sheep farm. We raise high quality Icelandic Sheep for milk, meat, and wool, and we sell breeding stock. In the Green Mountains of central Vermont, we rise early for daily feeding chores of our horses, sheep, and chickens, and then move on to other farm chores during the day such as skirting wool, making yogurt, selling at our local farmer’s market, or hand milking our ewes (in season).
We concentrate on producing hearty, disease and parasite resistant sheep, and on keeping them in a healthy and humane environment. Our flock is intentionally small so that we can know each of our “girls” personally. :)
We offer a room in our home (or a pullout couch if the room is taken) and all meals in exchange for about 4 hours of work a day. We are only a few miles from Vermont’s Long Trail, and from Bolton Valley ski area. We are also a short drive (15min) from Lake Champlain and Burlington, VT.
We are also members of other sites.
If you are interested in coming to help, I... more inside

Greetings, Helpers!

This is a five acre organic homestead in the Monadnock region, but just 90 minutes from Boston and Brattleboro, VT. The property has 2,000 square feet of annual garden space, 500 square feet of perennial space, and permaculture inspired landscaping. In addition to medicinal herbs, fruit trees, and berry bushes, we have laying hens and in midseason, meat chickens.

In the 2016 season, we added 15 blueberry bushes, hardy kiwis plants and hazelnut bushes and created mobile Quonset huts for the chickens. We will be getting a small greenhouse up and running for season extension. In 2017, we added a field for meat birds, raised beds for a garden expansion. In the 2018 season, we added a tiny human! In 2019 we worked towards completing a tiny house, finish the raised beds, adding woodchip mulch to various sites around the property and trying to stay ahead of the weeds. In 2020 we are adding another little to the family so our hosting will be on hold until at least... more inside

Sleeping space in the house in the winter time.Tasks:garden mulching , building, yard work, some inside cleaning, painting.
I work often as the town librarian. So we are often out and you would have time on your own. You may make your schedule.
We have light carpentry projects in the works, which you may help on depending on where we are at with them. One is a chicken pen, a tiny house and the other is installing a composting toilet room.

We heat with wood. The common space is warm, usually between 65 and 70 degrees. There are 2 couches, an ample table, a counter with stools and a comfy chair, so lots of room to hang out and work. I do have a 9 pm quiet and close the common room time. Most of us are up at 6 to get going for the day.
My small rural solar homestead is in the beautiful Monadnock region of New Hampshire. I have an extensive garden of herbs, flowers and vegetables, chickens, and a wood lot. I do teas, tinctures, balms and cordials with the herbs and can and fermen... more inside

This farm is a one woman (and ten-goat) operation nestled in the Upper Valley and committed to crafting the most unique and lovingly made goat dairy products out there. Animal health and happiness and land stewardship form the foundation of the wildly delicious raw milk, butter and skyr made by hand on premise.

Nestled in an idyllic and picturesque pocket of the Upper Valley, this farm was launched in 2019 with five French Alpine goats and a commitment to crafting the most unique and delicious goatsmilk products on the market. That all starts with the health and happiness of our tiny herd of working girls, who are rotationally grazed up the scrubby, herb-specked hill side and forest and milked twice a day by hand during our milking season.

Kidding for our group of girls will begin in mid-March and I am looking for someone gentle, reliable, patient and hardworking to help with preparations (setting up kidding pens) and assisting with all aspects of kidding, from attending birt... more inside

We are a family of 4 (working mom, dad in grad school, 4yo, & 1yo). Mom used to travel as a HelpXer. We live in a small village in western NY close to Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and Toronto. You can see Lake Ontario from our front yard. Our house is old and we are consistently renovating, we would possibly like someone to help with renovations (paint, flooring, kitchen upgrades, ect). Would also take on help with light cleaning, laundry, and occasional child minding. We would provide all meals and accommodation (private bedroom, shared bathroom) in exchange for 5-6 hrs of work 3-4 days a week. There is a pool, harbor marina, and nice restaurant across the street with opportunity for additional paid seasonal work.
