This is a small intimate creative arts retreat center in the forest surrounded by a brook, off the grid, with composting toilets, a tiny garden area ( anyone with a green thumb will be gratefully welcomed...the garden is suffering as I seem to be missing the gardner gene:-) ), three huts, a large studio and meeting room and a main house/ lodge. We specialize in workshops and retreats that combine the arts and focusing. We always need help winterizing and spring cleaning: cutting and stacking wood , loading three sheds, cutting and collecting kindling, tending the small garden making new raised beds, getting the huts ready for spring, storms up or down, clearing the trails, creating new trails, chain saw know how a plus, landscaping/creative gardening and/or carpentry skills a super plus for new projects. Organizing art materials, labeling and cleaning is another ongoing project for rainy days. We are a small hill sheep farm. We raise high quality Icelandic Sheep for milk, meat, and wool, and we sell breeding stock. In the Green Mountains of central Vermont, we rise early for daily feeding chores of our horses, sheep, and chickens, and then move on to other farm chores during the day such as skirting wool, making yogurt, selling at our local farmer’s market, or hand milking our ewes (in season).
We concentrate on producing hearty, disease and parasite resistant sheep, and on keeping them in a healthy and humane environment. Our flock is intentionally small so that we can know each of our “girls” personally. :)
We offer a room in our home (or a pullout couch if the room is taken) and all meals in exchange for about 4 hours of work a day. We are only a few miles from Vermont’s Long Trail, and from Bolton Valley ski area. We are also a short drive (15min) from Lake Champlain and Burlington, VT.
We are also members of other sites.
If you are interested in coming to help, I... more inside

Hi, we're a married couple. My husband has stage 4 esophageal cancer. He's 61 years old, I'm 46 years old. I'm trying to work as our health insurance is through my job, LNA/Activity Programmer at a nursing home. We're looking for someone to be here for my husband while I work at least half days. He may need help with getting snacks or balance when getting up and bathroom help. We live in a newly renovated 3 bedroom home. There are 2 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs (which would be available to you, it is a loft, pretty private) overlooking woods with deer, turkey and bear. We live on a dirt road but only a 5 minute drive to downtown Brandon. Brandon is a small town that also was totally renovated. A few microbreweries and vineyards nearby. A lovely bakery(Gourmet Provence)and pizza (Brandon House of Pizza) in town. (New roads, sidewalks, lights, trees, parks). Great place for hiking, ice fishing, fishing, hunting, nature lovers. If you're here in the summer we have kayaks you can us... more inside

Mike and I live on a lovely quiet pond west of Boston - we are trying to build a small park on our land and a vegetable garden - we are in a wooded, rural area, but only 3 hours from New York, 1 hour from Boston and l/2 hour from Worcester. We have one cat - mostly outdoor. We are both vegans and Mike is an oil-free vegan. Our house is on two levels and has five bedrooms and two baths, 2 fireplaces and an outdoor firepit down by the Pond - good swimming and fishing in summer. We are five miles from the nearest store and library, but have bikes to lend out and can offer lifts. We are looking for people to help build the park, e.g. clear the brush and cut up trees and help with the gardens and general house cleaning. We have wi-fi and cable tv and a canoe and 2 kyaks, a paddle boat and fishing poles. The fall colors are wonderful and the spring is simply beautiful. The summer is warm but we can cool off swimming in the pond. We are looking forward to winter and ice fishing a... more inside

Sleeping space in the house in the winter time.Tasks:garden mulching , building, yard work, some inside cleaning, painting.
I work often as the town librarian. So we are often out and you would have time on your own. You may make your schedule.
We have light carpentry projects in the works, which you may help on depending on where we are at with them. One is a chicken pen, a tiny house and the other is installing a composting toilet room.

We heat with wood. The common space is warm, usually between 65 and 70 degrees. There are 2 couches, an ample table, a counter with stools and a comfy chair, so lots of room to hang out and work. I do have a 9 pm quiet and close the common room time. Most of us are up at 6 to get going for the day.
My small rural solar homestead is in the beautiful Monadnock region of New Hampshire. I have an extensive garden of herbs, flowers and vegetables, chickens, and a wood lot. I do teas, tinctures, balms and cordials with the herbs and can and fermen... more inside

Hello everyone!

Tigertown farm is working homestead that always needs more help than my wife and I can give it!

In our early 20's we started this homestead from "scratch" meaning no structures or fields, just from the wasteland of post logging operation.

Six years later we are finishing our dwellings and developing sophisticated systems of feeding ourselves and caring for our ecosystem.

I can write forever on what to expect, but each year, each month, has different chores, projects, and unique opportunities.

Our home is where we live all year and 20 meters up the hill is our cabin, which hosts up to two guests in any season. We also have a nice tent platform besides the cabin for may-oct. Running water in both structures, gas oven and stove tops, nice shower and toilet (in main home), auxiliary outhouses.

Amazing food opportunities are available all year. Highest quality meat and eggs from our livestock and hunted as well as season's fresh ingredients. Our dry bu... more inside

Hello!

About this property and me.

My name is Bonnie Farrell. I have been on my property for 15 years and farmed it for 10. I own 40 acres with wonderful views and a couple of very small ponds. I am open to different kinds of help and levels of experience. I have a three bedroom, three-bathroom house. One spare room has a queen bed and the other has a full bed. So would allow two singles or two couples to stay at one time. Future help would be staying in the house with me and thus would be treated as part of the family. Hopefully that means you are comfortable here and it feels like home. It also means preparing some of the meals or helping out with general housekeeping, sweeping, dishes, etc. I ask for about 15 hours of work per person per week.

I would love to talk to you about how you might mesh here!

Priorities right now depending on your skill set are below.

----Now - Household help – Cleaning would be a priority with small projects like touch up... more inside

Update- With a record number of visitors to Acadia National Park last year, we're anticipating a busy upcoming, spring, summer and fall '20 season! We're offering a $100/week stipend and basic accommodations/living amenities to an individual(or couple) interested in hospitality and light grounds maintenance.

In the past this arrangement has allowed caretakers time for part or full time work. Tasks are largely cleaning of the main cottage and performing minor necessary maintenance. There is excellent opportunity for seasonal employment with the National Park, adventure programs or dining establishments etc. within a few miles of the property. We've also prepared almost a half acre of garden space with organic soil enrichment.

------------------------------

Main description-

Our little slice of heaven is located just a few miles west of Acadia National Park, in downeast Maine. We're inviting visitors to enjoy our properties forested, quiet and private accommodations.
