Thanks for you interest in volunteering at our farm. Let me give you a little background on our project. Our finca has been in our family Freeman for about 20 years. Over the last 5 years we have started to build cabinas and a little dinning rancho on the farm. This year we have begun heavily planting fruit trees like advacado, mango, guanabana, cashue, lime, coffee. Some of the trees bear fruit others our a couple years away. We have also begun our premaculture program with many different veggies in our garden beds.
The work day is 4-5 hours depending on the rain and the projects at hand. We generally work thru the week and have Saturday Sunday off. At the moment some o... more inside

Our finca is a 15 hectare mixed-use farm in the low mountains on the western edge of the Central Plateau. Most of the farm is habitat, with small areas of organic crops...corn, beans, fruits, coffee...and a main house with 3 smaller rental houses. The smaller houses are usually rented to couples escaping the Frozen North and graduate students and staff at the nearby University for Peace. There's lots of birding, monkeys all over the place. Tropical stuff.

We're looking for someone(s) to help with caretaking of the finca and maintenance and cleaning of the houses. ***We are pretty much stuck in the US at the moment and may not be able to get back home to Costa Rica for another 1-3 months.*** Maybe. So we're hoping to find help for September 15-November or December. Our present caretaker has been great for the past several months, but finally needs to move on. He's happy to overlap with you for 1-2 weeks and show you the ropes.

The work is some cleaning of the houses ... more inside

Committed to the health and well being of the planet & the community of Cano Negro, located near the Nicaragua border, I am investing my energies into this small pueblo, which is now my home. My children are grown & living abroad but practice & promote sustainable lifestyles which they learned from their mom growing up in Costa Rica. Now I have the time to share this knowledge with this special community, far off the beaten path. The most immediate need will be during July 2020 when the students will be on their 3 week vacation. Although I believe that children need free time, I am offering an alternative to the TV, video games and cell phones. We will be running the 3rd free summer camp with arts, song, dance, games, 1st aid review which we learned this january & whatever other skills the volunteers have & wish to share. This january we did our 1st river clean-up & hauled in 11 huge bags of trash & had lots of fun. Fluent Spanish is not necessary but some spanish language skills w... more inside

Greetings!
(This is an opportunity for 1 person only please;)
8 km north of Sámara near a small village (pop 150) called Esterones, my property sits on a hill in the jungle about 12 minutes walk from that village. You will find a small supermarket, a restaurant and a tiny hardware store(they don't have WIFI;). Walk a bit further and you will find 3 world class beaches. It's about an hour walk to Sámara. The closest bus stop is about 45min walk with only occasional service but ‘hitchhiking’ is perfectly normal mode of transportation here. This is a chance to get to know a special part of Costta Rica, I've been in love with this area and its people for more than 20 years. I've also been a helper for the past 10 years in Peru, Italy, Japan, Australia, France, Portugal, Kenya, Ireland...and I dig it!
I normally work my land from Nov-Feb and May-July. I travel the rest of the time.
I have a small plot of land, 10.900mt2, but I only cultivate about a fifth of it and the rest is natur... more inside

UPDATE** For July 2020 and onward, we are seeking an individual or couple who are interested in helping us long term, with our renewed vision for our 5 acre vacation property. We are in a time of transition and considering new options. For the past 10 years we have been a short term vacation rental property. We have now become a long-term rental with a conscious community minded approach. This said, an important aspect of the volunteer position we are looking to fill, is someone with collaborative creative social media and marketing abilities to help with listing the available casitas on different platforms and revamping our social media presence. The ideal volunteer(s) would also have various skills, as well as tending to the vegetable gardens (which you are welcome to enjoy the harvest).
If you'd like to offer your skills in these domains and are available for long term exchange, we would love to hear from you!

We have lived in many places around the world and have settled ... more inside

We are a local Costa Rican family living on a small organic farm. We are in the process of creating a sustainable living susituation by utilizing permaculture techniques, protecting the forrest that surrounds us, and participating in our local economy.

10 acres are dedicated to chemical-free agriculture demonstrating functioning agroforestry and permaculture. Water is plentiful here, thanks to abundant rainfall and the waterfalls of the property. The soil is diverse while rich in minerals is also fairly acidic.
Over the past several years, we are recovering this soil by regularly hand tilling the earth and fertilizing with rich compost produced onsite, including companion plants, and a mixture we make from microorganisms gathered in the forest. We are beyond organic; we are chemical free. Our dedication to chemical-free agriculture extends to our fruits and vegetables. The seeds give birth to a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, spices and medicinal plants. and more.
