I have an organic garden on a 20 hectare property in the state of Yucatan by the Gulf of Mexico near the beautiful fishing village of San Felipe. I don't charge any money for your stay. I have a degree in electrical engineering and I developed many ways to be self-sufficient. I cook solar-electric, with a rice cooker connected to 4 small solar panels and I also cook with a wood burning rocket stove. At "Hacienda Santa Maria" you can learn how to live in a civilized way on just 1 dollar a day. I will show you how to mostly live off the Sun and how I build a beautiful concrete block house for about the price of a car using my invention "Horsy". Learn how to control weeds without chemicals, naturally fertilize the irrigation water and make any crop use 5 times less water while also eliminating soil erosion using "Rock culture". I live without a fridge and eat fresh food instead. At "The University of Santa Maria" you can learn everything you need to know to prosper, even during a major... more inside

Hi, we are Kate and Kristian.

We are putting everything together to open a hostel and eco campground where travellers can experience sleeping in the original surf wagon, a VW Bus! We have 7 VW Buses; 5 of which are very rusty shells that we need to restore!

More info.

We would be so grateful for any help getting the vehicles and hostel ready. From cleaning out and sanding down the vehicles, to painting and varnishing. You don’t need to be arty as we will probably keep them in a polished rusty style. Although if you are artistic we would also love to incorporate your skills!

Other things that we will be doing and would love help with are building bed frames for the vehicles, clearing and general tidying of the area, building the compost toilet, helping to put up shades, creating a vegetable patch, other painting, etc.

There is a shower with hot water, toilet, mini fridge, microwave oven and we have a camp stove with 2 burners for cooking. All cooking utensils, cups... more inside

Our Hostel is just 2 blocks from mainsquare and offer different services in and out the place: hosting, tours, temazcal. Our place is an old big neoclassic arquitecture house, with a beautiful big garden with temazcal (mayan sauna), hammocks and a brand-new terrace with a 360 grades view from the city.

We are looking for 6-8 people to help us in the Hostel with these main activities: reception (welcome guests, take them to their rooms, offer our tours, etc), rooms/beds cleaning, laundry, night shifts, hostel promotion at the bus station, campfire nights, in-place events and the mor... more inside
