Being a passionate surfer and cook trying to live in a sustainable way, I decided to start this Salty Jackal Backpackers in 2017.

We are a small backpackers (10 beds) in Namibia's coastal tourist hub Swakopmund and we are the only accommodation in town catering specifically for surfers - we are one hour from Skeleton Bay and many other surf spots are around the corner! Salty Jackal, I hope, will also teach visitors a thing or two about sustainable urban living.

We have been up and running since July 2017 but this place is a long-term project of mine which is to grow and improve continuously:)

Apart from daily routine jobs that take very little time, e.g. manning reception for check-ins/check-outs/new bookings and other general management, volunteers can get involved in projects ranging from decoration, maintenance, new guest facilities, veggie garden expansion etc.

While at the backpackers you are expected to be at the premises or close by to check guests -in and -out, ... more inside

The main house was built by "German Schutztruppe" in early 1900ís and is now the residence of the von Schauroth family. Rich in history and culture, Savanna Guest Farm is a traditional Namibian sheep farm where true Namibian hospitality, local food and good wine dominates.

We offer relaxed and tranquil accommodation in safe surrounding without having to off load your whole car. An opportunity for foreigners to experience a typical Namibian farm and to meet the friendly local Namibian people. The Guest house is managed by owners.

(SORRY - NO HELPERS NEEDED RIGHT NOW AS WE ARE BUILDING ON OUR HOUSE AND CANT ACCOMMODATE YOU... MAYBE AGAIN TOWARDS THE END OF 2016)

We are a cattle and horse farm in Namibia that need help in training and handling young horses that grew up in the wild. They would already be haltered and some basic ground training done by myself, but might still act up. Our helper would need to have experience in handling wild young stock, must have good natural body language and must be confident around young horses.

Daily jobs will be the handling and grooming of young horses (only about 4 hours per day), doing basic natural ground work training and possibly progress to lunging and further training. The ability to school youngsters under saddle would be a huge advantage, but this is not expected. I might learn from you, and you might learn from me. Some weekend feeding might be expected, but no stable cleaning.

Our main business is beef cattle farming and the horses are only my hobby, ... more inside
