This is a grass roots initiative and women's shelter in Kenya, East Africa for victims of sexual and domestic violence and is the first of its kind in the country.
Many defenseless women are beaten or sexually abused, separated from their children and literally kicked out on the streets. It has only been in very recent years that gender desks have been established at police stations around the country. But even with that first step towards helping these women and their children, the reality is that it will take years for women and girls to realize their rights and safety under the law. Therefore we are committed to providing help for our sisters in Kenya who desperately need our help. And we are asking you to join with us in this critical initiative.

Services include but are not limited to safe shelter, counseling, advocacy, education and transitional assistance through placement, vocational guidance and training. The shelter is located in the beautiful scenic Rift Valley n... more inside

Thank you for expressing an interest in coming to volunteer with us. Please ONLY SERIOUS volunteers to apply.Welcome to Islanders Centre Kenya page.We urgently need volunteers who can help with Computer work, Carpenters, Teachers, social workers, those that are interested in farming and those who can help with sports.

Rusinga Island is in the South West of Kenya, on the shores of Lake Victoria. It is a beautiful region with a cool breeze that blows from the lake. Rusinga is home to the Luo people which is also the tribe of Barrack Obama's family. It is beautiful, but also poor, and sadly many families simply cannot afford to send their children to school.

My family and I set up the Islanders School six years ago to help children who could not afford to go to school get a free, quality education. We firmly believe that every child, regardless of their background should have the opportunity to fulfill their potential, and that education is the key to achieving this.
