We are a family of 5 who lead regular city lives, however we are in the process of trying to convert our home, into an urban farm with food forest / permaculture / organic influences.

We currently have fruit and nut trees, some chickens and quail, some annual vegetable patches and a small nursery.

With spring well on the way, we are getting into annual planting, compost spreading and shade tree clearing. With the good rains we have had, we have only just started with our annual watering regime.

As of 2018 we have started doing monthly garden tours, to enable people to be inspired to grow their own food. You can see what we are upto on the above website and social media platforms.

With a bit of luck you might get to choose your work from the list if I have no preference. In no special order.

Rain tanks are connected, leaf catchers needed
Continuing wicking beds build. Final bed of three to... more inside

We are a small dairy farm producing high quality milk products with a small herd of sheep for wool and meat. We also have food gardens, chickens, bees and cats and dogs. We wish to expand our food production to include an extended agro-processing range (currently including cheese, butter, yoghurt, kombucha, sprouts). We require help with the day-to-day operations as well as building our dream which is a place where people want to come to because they are interested in seeing and experiencing primary and secondary food production. We also host school camps and receive visitors for educational and awareness raising activities.

Description

We are a small family living on a twenty hectare ORGANIC FARM.
Our aim is to be as self-sufficient as possible and farm in a morally responsible manner while enjoying a peaceful lifestyle.
We have +/- twenty cows which we milk, eat and use as fertilizors; three breeding pigs; in-numeral chickens for eggs, meat and as de-tickers; a flock of geese. The herd of goats is for land-clearing and milk; the horse, mule and donkey for grazing rotation. Our four dogs besides being pets are for breeding. We also have a few hives of bees for honey.
We grow our own vegetables in our large vegetable garden.

Area

We are situated in Byrne Valley, Richmond, Kwazulu Natal. A very beautiful, serene and picturesque area with natural grasslands, indigenous forest and a small village of mainly RETIRED people. There are beautiful walks we would be happy to show you.

We are a family of 4- mom, dad 11 year-old boy and Granny with 3 dogs, 3 cats and a lot of chickens! We have started from scratch as there were no buildings and no grid power. We are building our own steel-framed, straw bale house with all means of alternative power. Our long-term goal is to be self-sustaining. We would like short-term help with building. This means some clay plastering, and raising ceilings and a bit of plumbing.
Being a farm, there are many other things which need doing like repairing fencing, animal care, path making etc. We have a small timber cabin with a comfy queen bed with linen provided.
The shared ablutions and meals are with the family. We eat mostly simple, vegetarian food with eggs from our hens and occasional meat and dairy bought in. We would prefer 24 + aged volunteers who can work on their own if needed. As we are fairly remote, couples or friends together work well. We enjoy working hard and like to laugh and have fun doing it. Volunteers work wi... more inside

Small farm with garagist winery and two guest self catering homes in two other towns.
The cellar produces 2,000 bottles of handcrafted wines. We are not making wine in 2019 because of the drought and other logistic problems. It has a beautiful garden and 110 years old manor house. This all need to be kept neat.
Currently my main job is marketing of the wine.
Guest workers will help all over and could work when and for how long per day as we agree upon. The meals are included with the stay.
The farm is 20km away from the nearest town, Malmesbury and 80km away from Cape Town. Public transport is not really available but we go to town daily and very often to Cape Town if the guest worker wishes to travel with for sight seeing. Hours can be discussed and also the work to be done.
The work is not hard physical labour and if I, a 60+ person can do it so can any one.
If the guest wants to travel, they will be more than welcome.
No smoking in the house and only at certain areas on... more inside
