I aim for the improvement of my students' ability in English by involving volunteers in their routines.

This programme was created in 2010 by a small group of English teachers who have been working for several years alongside Native Speakers. The reason that we created this programme is to help the local students and give them the opportunity to learn English with English speaking-people. Cianjur is a non-touristy place with few travellers, so meeting english-speaking people is particularly valued here.
In 2013, our programme was recommended by The Lonely Planet Guide Book. The programme was founded by five locals; the team are enthusiastic and passionate about improving the local student’s English.
The team:
Irwan Kumis, who is fluent in English, has been teaching primary school English for 9 years, as well as working for several years as a guide for Western travellers. He previously worked for a German NGO, Forder-und Interessengemeinschaft, as a volunteer in post-Tsunami Reconstruction and Development on Sabang–Weh Island–Aceh. He studied Economics at a University in Cianjur a... more inside

Volunteer Teaching
Teaching is a challenge especially for those who teach foreign languages in Indonesia. Many EFL teachers have taught their Junior or Senior High School students for more than 3 years, but getting their students to speak out loud is very difficult. Research findings indicate that Junior and Senior High School graduates have not been able to use their English skills productively. Many Indonesian students admit that speaking skills are very difficult to master.

In searching for a possible way to improve students acquisition of the English language, an expert says that when producing a word, they must pick the meaning before the sound, and when they recognize the word, the sound comes first. In order to recognize the word the students should hear the proper sound of the word first rather than pick its meaning. Since the proper sound ideally comes from native speakers, the students would greatly benefit from listening to native pronunciation and words and messages... more inside

I run private English school for children aged between 10 and 19 years old in a small city in West Sumatra. My goal as the principal of the school is to provide youth from my region with the English skills required to communicate better in the modern world, and therefore provide them with better opportunities in their lives.

I would like to welcome any fluent English speakers under the age of thirty to come assist my teachers in the classroom. You would help immensely by having simple conversations with the students and give them a real English speaking experience inside or outside the classroom.

All the students are very welcoming and curious about my visitors and I am certain that you will have a great experience while interacting with them. You can expect answering all their curious questions, pose for pictures and be invited for lunches, snacks and dinners.

Classes in my school run from 2pm to 6pm and mostly consist of two lessons/classrooms per day. I would also like ... more inside
