I run private English school for children aged between 10 and 19 years old in a small city in West Sumatra. My goal as the principal of the school is to provide youth from my region with the English skills required to communicate better in the modern world, and therefore provide them with better opportunities in their lives.

I would like to welcome any fluent English speakers under the age of thirty to come assist my teachers in the classroom. You would help immensely by having simple conversations with the students and give them a real English speaking experience inside or outside the classroom.

All the students are very welcoming and curious about my visitors and I am certain that you will have a great experience while interacting with them. You can expect answering all their curious questions, pose for pictures and be invited for lunches, snacks and dinners.

Classes in my school run from 2pm to 6pm and mostly consist of two lessons/classrooms per day. I would also like ... more inside

This programme was created in 2010 by a small group of English teachers who have been working for several years alongside Native Speakers. The reason that we created this programme is to help the local students and give them the opportunity to learn English with English speaking-people. Cianjur is a non-touristy place with few travellers, so meeting english-speaking people is particularly valued here.
In 2013, our programme was recommended by The Lonely Planet Guide Book. The programme was founded by five locals; the team are enthusiastic and passionate about improving the local student’s English.
The team:
Irwan Kumis, who is fluent in English, has been teaching primary school English for 9 years, as well as working for several years as a guide for Western travellers. He previously worked for a German NGO, Forder-und Interessengemeinschaft, as a volunteer in post-Tsunami Reconstruction and Development on Sabang–Weh Island–Aceh. He studied Economics at a University in Cianjur a... more inside

Hello! We are looking for enthusiastic and nature-loving volunteers. This is a community-based cooperative that seeks to create locally-sourced, natural products and to host social projects that focus on health, wellness and art. We hope to facilitate cultural and skill sharing between foreigners and the local youth and women. This place is still in the process of being started up, and that is why we are looking for a team of volunteers to help us get things running!

We are in the process of renovating the space and the tasks you will help us complete will leave you with new knowledge in working with natural materials and with sustainable methods. We will be building a cob earthen oven, improving our garden with a polytube greenhouse complete with an aquaponics system, and planting various types of herbs and flowers that we will use in our products and projects. You will also be a part of our programs for the Youth and Women’s Co-Op, assisting in activities such as conversational... more inside

"Join with me to do camping with the naturalist life concept on Sawa Island and help me clean the beach from plastic waste"

Hi my name is Alee. I am a social and environmental activist on Tomia Island, Wakatobi. Now I am trying to get out and see the state of the small islands around Tomia Island and even I stay for a few weeks just to clean the plastic trash scattered along the coast and it turns out that Sawa Island is a place that is perfect for me. I am also sure that you will like it when you are on this island.

# About Sawa Island:
Sawa Island is one of the small islands in front of Tomia Island, Wakatobi, Indonesia. This island is a land of sand which is only covered by coconut trees and several other sand plants.
