This programme was created in 2010 by a small group of English teachers who have been working for several years alongside Native Speakers. The reason that we created this programme is to help the local students and give them the opportunity to learn English with English speaking-people. Cianjur is a non-touristy place with few travellers, so meeting english-speaking people is particularly valued here.
In 2013, our programme was recommended by The Lonely Planet Guide Book. The programme was founded by five locals; the team are enthusiastic and passionate about improving the local student’s English.
The team:
Irwan Kumis, who is fluent in English, has been teaching primary school English for 9 years, as well as working for several years as a guide for Western travellers. He previously worked for a German NGO, Forder-und Interessengemeinschaft, as a volunteer in post-Tsunami Reconstruction and Development on Sabang–Weh Island–Aceh. He studied Economics at a University in Cianjur a... more inside

Hello helpers, my name is Ino and I'm a 38 year-old local guy from Uluwai, in Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi. You must have heard about this area: it's quite famous for its beautifully decorated wooden houses and funeral rituals. Google it ;)
I grew up in the small village of Uluwai, where my mother still lives. During high season I work as a guide in Rantepao and the main areas of Tana Toraja,in Rantepao I have small tiny room,so we can spent the day and night there for explore Toraja, I also work as an outdoor instructor for kids.
In low season I go back to my village to help my mother with her work in the fields. We have picturesque rice paddies and cocoa trees around my farm (besides the odd banana and papaya trees, of course ;) ). I want to study how to make our small cocoa orchard organic.
My house is on a small knoll surrounded by rice fields and beautiful, lush mountains (included Rantemario, the highest mountain in Sulawesi, which I've climbed several times :) ).

I run private English school for children aged between 10 and 19 years old in a small city in West Sumatra. My goal as the principal of the school is to provide youth from my region with the English skills required to communicate better in the modern world, and therefore provide them with better opportunities in their lives.

I would like to welcome any fluent English speakers under the age of thirty to come assist my teachers in the classroom. You would help immensely by having simple conversations with the students and give them a real English speaking experience inside or outside the classroom.

All the students are very welcoming and curious about my visitors and I am certain that you will have a great experience while interacting with them. You can expect answering all their curious questions, pose for pictures and be invited for lunches, snacks and dinners.

Classes in my school run from 2pm to 6pm and mostly consist of two lessons/classrooms per day. I woul... more inside
