Be a part of an innovative education solution!

This is a social entrepreneurship project whose mission is to improve access to quality education to rural communities. This is a response to the failed public school system and inaccessible or unaffordable quality education provided in private schools.

Starting from a tent in the jungle with 15 students, founders Manjil Rana and Yoon, opened the first school in Tanahun district in 2011. Today itís the only chain of free private schools where parents can pay in time instead of money by volunteering two days per month at the schools.

The long-term goal is for the schools to become fully self-sustainable through farming business and micro enterprise projects..

Students here follow a unique and diverse curriculum, based on the national curriculum of Nepal and supplemented with various activity-based topics. It emphasizes the importance of community, allows for creativity, independence, and critical thinking.

This is only the second school in Nagarkot, nice Nepalese village in Bhaktapur district; a 1.5 hrs bus ride from Kathmandu. It hopes to provide an English medium education for underprivileged children. The school has 7 staff members taking care of its 80+ students - aged from 4 to 12 years old - and would benefit from any help volunteers can provide.

Volunteers can expect to as class helpers and also share teaching tips with the school if they can. Volunteers can also help beautify the classrooms murals to help the kids as visual aids during their school time. Becoming an independent class teacher is also an option for long-term volunteers as soon as they have a grasp on the school's curriculum and vision for students.

Other jobs for volunteers include:
- Writing class exercises and homework exercises for students (we have no printing/photocopying facilities)

- Designing class quizzes and tests

- Introducing interactive, educational games through which children can lear... more inside

If you are interested in learning about Nepalese cultures, cuisines, traditions and festivals, then a homestay is the best way to see the real Nepal. By doing this you will be introduced to a plethora of brand new experiences in an authentic Nepalese environment; rich with culture. An additional plus will be the warm and welcoming Nepalese hospitality at its best within our home.

We have three members in our family: me (Shanker), my mother and our daughter (Chun Chun) who is 17 years old. My brother Pradeep runs a small money exchange office in Thamel, which is about a 20 minutes direct walk from our home. Our home is located in a very safe and peaceful residential area called Gongabu Town Planning, Gongabu. We belong to the Newar ethnic group, who are the indigenous people of Kathmandu Valley. Newari culture is historically rich and possesses many unique traditions and rituals; one of which includes marrying our daughters to the bel-tree fruit and the Sun. Namaste!

We welcome you to join our family of students and teachers living at a Buddhist School/Monastery in a national park. We are located just 10 ten km from Kathmandu in a very peaceful forest with no traffic sounds, just birds chirping! We have 28 kids between the ages of 7 and 18 years old, all of whom live and study here. With the intention to help underprivileged children and to provide modern and Buddhist education, we serve kids from very poor areas, some without parents, and/or families struggling to survive so the school is a special place for them because it provides them with a family and an opportunity for a better future. Our students are very loving and kind to volunteers so you will very quickly be absorbed into our big family!

We do not have any external financial support which we need to feed the kids and pay for teachers, so we must get creative in order to sustain our special school. The biggest help would be through teaching the kids but contributions in... more inside

***Myself***
I am born and raised in Nepal. I have been traveling to learn about sustainability for years now. In the process of learning, I went to India and Cambodia to learn yoga and meditation and organic farming. Within Nepal, itself also, I went volunteering from farms to schools to transportation industries to factories to wood business to furniture and so on. I went working in US-based call centers and airline ticket agents and hotels.
I am really looking for an alternative economic system.
And let's share other things when we meet.

***Parents***
My parents live separately in two different cities. Dad is into spirituality and is also into yoga and meditation. He makes herbs like tea, toothpaste, and some medicines. Mom is into business and she owned wood and transportation business. I visit both of them now and then.
I have two younger brothers, one is studying Geology and the youngest is a marathon runner.
You will meet them soon.

***Our Team***
We have friends... more inside

If you are interested to teach and help in a public school and gain a memorable experience in your life, you are most welcome. Our school is situated in the heart of Kathmandu and founded in 1974. There are ECD classes for ages 3-5 and other classes for ages 6-17. There are private schools in Nepal, but these cost money that many families cannot afford. Our schools are affordable and easily accessible to all students. We would appreciate any help that you could offer to improve the quality of education through your unique contributions. The majority of students in these schools come from low income families. These studnts will benefit greatly from English classes or any other subjects that you may be able to teach.

Volunteers will stay with a local family not far from the school. This is a fantastic way to experience first hand Nepali culture and family life. Volunteers will have their own bedroom along with basic facilities, and WIFI. Volunteers are requested to contribute USD... more inside
