We are a local Costa Rican family living on a small organic farm. We are in the process of creating a sustainable living susituation by utilizing permaculture techniques, protecting the forrest that surrounds us, and participating in our local economy.

10 acres are dedicated to chemical-free agriculture demonstrating functioning agroforestry and permaculture. Water is plentiful here, thanks to abundant rainfall and the waterfalls of the property. The soil is diverse while rich in minerals is also fairly acidic.
Over the past several years, we are recovering this soil by regularly hand tilling the earth and fertilizing with rich compost produced onsite, including companion plants, and a mixture we make from microorganisms gathered in the forest. We are beyond organic; we are chemical free. Our dedication to chemical-free agriculture extends to our fruits and vegetables. The seeds give birth to a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, spices and medicinal plants. and more.

Hello, my name is Ricardo and I began this Sea Turtle Conservation Project almost 20 years ago in the Rio Claro Wildlife Refuge in the Osa Pensinsula, Costa Rica. Our not for profit project protects thousands of Sea Turtle eggs along our coastline every year and ensures that the newly hatched babies make it to the sea. I am looking for help to keep the project running successfully. I came to this place 45 years ago to surf with a friend in a time when there was absolutely nothing but nature and a few farmers. A worked for a Biological Station where I learned with some biologists to be a naturalist ... 20 years ago I felt motivated by the conservation of sea turtles since I found an exaggerated depredation towards this species from human poaching and animal hunting.
Our project is am... more inside

Living with a Costarican family
Located south of Puriscal County, our small town of Mastatal borders La Cangreja National Park. Our farm, strives to build and produce necessities in harmony with the earth while helping both the local community and our visitors live in a sustainable manner.

Volunteers will participate in both construction and farming projects, and have the opportunity to help care for animals as well.

Previous building projects include a cob ovien, composting toilets, open air showers and tool shed renovation. Presently we are working on a new composting toilet and shower area next to the volunteer lodge.

We are a Costa Rican family of 5 living and working on a small farm. Located in a lush green valley, we are currently working a hectare of our 6.5 hectare farm. We are in the process of becoming organic, and are working towards getting organic certification in the near future with your help.

Our dream is to have a fully self-sustainable farm, eventually producing enough to sell locally as well, and to leave a positive legacy for future generations. As volunteers on our farm, you will help us realize our dreams, while we help you realize some of yours!

We have traditional farming knowledge, and are very open to new ideas and projects that can help us utilize the principles of permaculture to make our farm run more efficiently, and with less environmental impact.

We are a short walk away from the nearest town of San Gerardo de Rivas, near the entrance to the beautiful Cerro Chirripo National Park, and one hour (by bus or car) from the city of San Isidro.

Committed to the health and well being of the planet & the community of Cano Negro, located near the Nicaragua border, I am investing my energies into this small pueblo, which is now my home. My children are grown & living abroad but practice & promote sustainable lifestyles which they learned from their mom growing up in Costa Rica. Now I have the time to share this knowledge with this special community, far off the beaten path. The most immediate need will be during July 2020 when the students will be on their 3 week vacation. Although I believe that children need free time, I am offering an alternative to the TV, video games and cell phones. We will be running the 3rd free summer camp with arts, song, dance, games, 1st aid review which we learned this january & whatever other skills the volunteers have & wish to share. This january we did our 1st river clean-up & hauled in 11 huge bags of trash & had lots of fun. Fluent Spanish is not necessary but some spanish language skills w... more inside
