Hi there,

We are looking for helpers who are enthusiastic, motivated and enjoy a variety of odd jobs and would like to experience a semi rural "kiwi" lifestyle, living with us and helping in and around hour house in Acacia Bay, 10 minutes (8km)from Taupo township and our holiday home just down the road.

Our helpx require their own transport please as we live 8km from town.

are you heading to the tongariro crossing? we live a 30 minute drive from the start of the crossing... have some time to kill before your whanganui river journey? hello travelers! survivor kakahi is a little unconventional and may not suit everyone! we do not supply 5 star accommodation, BUT! we do supply respect, great conversation and lots of laughs, food is plentiful and delicious, and a cold beer at the end of a good day is highly likely.

we enjoy meeting new people and want to host people who have life/travel experience and a degree of maturity, prefer 30 and over. we have two young children, and we value our family time, but there are plenty of opportunities to practice english, converse and relax. we are both energetic and like to be around people with high energy levels and lots of enthusiasm.

ok, so if you are still interested, read on!

ideally we are looking for a single handy person with their own camper van. having said that, we are open to other possibilities! ... more inside

We welcome your enquiry as we enjoy having helpers to stay.

Lake Taupo is a beautiful place with so many activities to experience. We can help you plan your Tongariro Crossing trip and all the other outdoor activities.

Market day is Saturday morning and you will be helping Martin with selling eggs, plants and other produce.

On the other days you will be helping with seeding, gardening, hydroponics as well as housework and other chores.

Occasionally there is heavy stuff to carry so you need to be okay with that.

You will work for either a whole day or half day. When you work for a whole day you have a whole day off. When you work for the morning you will have the afternoon off.

On your days off we encourage you to go out and spend your time getting to know Taupo and seeing all the sights.

We will let you know all the things there are to see and do.

We provide all your evening meals and breakfast.

We supply your lunch... more inside

I live on a a large sheep and beef hill country farm 30 minutes from Mt Ruapehu. Help would be with whatever is on at the time painting, gardening, waterblasting, building and generally doing easy tasks but they do require some energy and maybe some farm work including shearing, docking, drenching, thistle chopping, splitting wood. I try to have some variety of work to suit individual people. Be prepared to get dirty, sample isolation, share good food and company and have a unique New Zealand farming experience. We don't have cell phone coverage at the house and its a thirty minute drive to out nearest small town.

This location is great for accessing the best of the area, whether it be Taupo town`s activities or the mountains for skiing, lake Taupo, hiking or exploring the latest bike tracks.

As an experienced teacher of English as a second language, if you wish I can help improve your English during your stay. Mostly though, we hope to be fair and flexible in that we get help through your work and you enjoy some of Taupo`s lovely attractions and activities while staying with us.

We can host for 2 - 4 nights at a time or longer.

OWN TRANSPORT is preferred for our helpers as we are 14km from Taupo township. Sometimes, we will take helpers who don`t have a car and will drive them into town on their day`s off, but this needs to be arranged beforehand.

You would have your own private bedroom. The accommodation is either one of the two spare bedrooms in our house. Helpers have a separate bathroom and tea/coffee making facilities. It is a big house and there is plenty of room!

*Urgent help required now to help with household chores, looking after the dogs and children*

Generally we need help with planting trees, pruning, painting, water blasting, weed spraying, gardening, house work, firewood, cleaning vehicles, maybe some cooking also we may ask for some help with little people aged 5 and 8 years!
A typical day is 4.5hrs work (generally from 8am - 12.30pm) then you have the rest of the day to explore Taupo.
If we get a nice day we will take you out on the lake to see the carvings on our boat.
