This mixed hill farm is home to 16 cows, a bull, two goats, a large flock of sheep ,bees, poultry, ducks, five cats and two dogs with their two owners and quite a lot of wildlife. The farm is certified organic/biodynamic. We use Biodynamic methods, have no machinery and work hard to try to grow vegetables, shiitake and fruit at 650` on a south facing hill in a glorious area of South West Scotland. We welcome non-smoking meat eating or vegetarian help. We are far from shops and transport, quiet - a great place to watch the stars!

There is always a lot to do and we need help now! If you would like to help us with our Biodynamic Preparations you would learn aabout what and why we do! We hope to plant some more fruit trees and generally tidy up after a very wet winter. We have some recycled timber which we would love to turn into duck and/or hen houses and there is always fencing to renovate or dykes to repair!

We welcome people who like to get `stuck in`. Right n... more inside

*** We need somebody from now for at least 8 weeks, preferably longer ***

Join our lovely team. Make new friends. Discover Edinburgh.

We are a friendly and vibrant little hostel right on the historical Royal Mile in the very centre of Scotland`s stunning and lively capital city. We`re one of the smallest but also cosiest and friendliest hostels in town. And we`re smack bang in the middle of all the sights and our favourite bars are 5 around minutes walk away (some even less).
I think we would describe ourselves as a relaxed, cosy kind of bunch rather than a crazy party hostel. Nights with wine and banter in front of the fire place are among our favourite. But there are also have weekly events in cooperation with our bigger sister hostels like Ceilidh (Scottish dance), Pub Crawl and Ghost tours.

We`re looking for someone who likes to be around people from all over the world and wants to help us keep our wee hostel clean and tidy. A friendly atmosphere is very important to... more inside

We are a semi-retired couple looking for help in the garden and possibly some house decorating and upkeep if the weather is bad. We are very flexible about the hours and how many weeks you want to stay but maybe you aren't so keen to come in a Scottish winter, so we suggest you avoid December to March! We have a private bed sitting room for one or two people and separate bathroom and utility area. We would in return offer comfortable and spacious accommodation and share cooking arrangements. We would provide food in return for some hours of work to be negotiated by mutual consent. You can also use our swimming pool and gym equipment, borrow bikes etc.
Our garden was laid out in the 1890's with formal and informal areas and a vegetable growing area (which we made into raised beds.) The garden surrounds the house and is set on a hill with woodland paths, flower borders and water features. There was an existing grotto with waterfall and we have added four ponds joined by a stream.... more inside

A "Natural" Building Project in the Scottish Highlands.

Hi HelpXers,

We live in a beautiful wooded glen (valley) near a village called Spinningdale about 50 miles (80 km.) north of Inverness in the northern Scottish Highlands, where we have a 6 acre (2.4 hectare) former croft (a "croft" is a traditional small Highland farmstead).

We are surrounded by 1700 acres (700 hectares) of stunning natural woodland belonging to a conservation body called The Woodland Trust. We help look after the woods as Voluntary Wardens.

Jim is an environmental scientist with a particular interest in ecological design and sustainable building using natural materials.

Saddhavati is an artist and teacher.

We are nearing completion of our "natural" home. It is a "passive solar" design based around a traditional post and beam timber frame with "breathing" external walls clad with untreated larch and a living green roof. The building is insulated throughout with hemp fibre and sheep`s wool... more inside
