I am creating a future health research and healing retreat center for people to live an ancestral way of life. The main points are: having a natural circadian rhythm (waking-up with sunrise, going to sleep when it gets dark), sleeping outdoors to be more connected to nature, not using electric light, not carrying around mobile phones on constant basis (in order to be more calm and focused by being disconnected on purpose), eating only high nutrient density foods, keeping the food and environmental toxin load as low as possible.

This is the very beginning, starting in the middle of nowhere, in the forest, with almost nothing, except a tipi and several ex-military containers and vehicles full of equipment and supplies which needs to be sorted, cleaned, organised. The work needed is sorting of all kinds of stuff, from kitchen equipment, tools of all kinds, repairing leaks in metal containers, finding technical solutions for all kinds of things you'd expect when you'd want to start l... more inside

I have a small farm that l want to expand and keep as organic as it used to be when my grandparents used to run it. I have little experience in agriculture and am mainly learning on the job.

We offer bed and food to anybody willing to help run the farm. Hours are flexible, but generally 25 hours/week and we take Sundays off for sailing or relaxing. Depending on who is here and what projects we are working on, we sometimes work longer days one day and shorter days another day. We have internet and bathrooms both indoors and outdoors.

We have some animals: goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, a donkey, and a cow and of course some cats and dogs. So anybody who loves animals and/or vegetables and doesn`t mind getting dirty is welcome. We grow tomatoes, corn, potatoes, zucchini, beans, berries, and more. So there`s many things to do and many different skills are needed. We also have some community projects such as initiating people to waste sorting and other related products like compos... more inside

LATEST UPDATE: autonomous volunteers needed for an unusual autumn :)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
We live in a (still) traditional village surrounded by hills and forests where time goes in a different pace. For many years our household was part of an intentional community group that has unfortunately dismantled in 2017. However, we keep on our beliefs and values and go on experimenting simplicity with permaculture and technology, weaving a social web of people interested in alternative living.

For this summer and autumn, Teodora, the main ”engine” of the household will be away in a humanitarian mission in an African country. Volunteers will be cared by Contantza, an energetic yet fragile 77 years old lady with logistic support from Thomas who will be there on week-ends.

July to September will be mainly busy picking fruits (apples, pears, plums) and trying to preserve them as pressed juice, jams or... through fermentation :) October is a big garden clean up and preparing the w... more inside

After 24 years living and working in Romania I am returning to UK in late October this year. I have already retired from running tours (see below).

A hard-working HelpX-er (or couple) would be much appreciated in late September for a week to help with packing. Someone in late October to help with garden tidying and final house cleaning in preparation for new owners would be most helpful too!

From November I will be living on my canal narrowboat in Britain, and plan to host HelpX-ers for my new adventure cruising the canals and waterways of England. Please see my other HelpX profile #87492 (England) for details!

In Romania / Transylvania until my departure late October: free accommodation / good food / camping and travel advice / support - on a share / help / exchange basis - in an old Saxon smallholding in a village just north of Brasov in South East Transylvania!

Lots of jobs to be done - mostly cleaning / organising / gardening / packing / and help with selling things ... more inside

We are located in the Carpathian Mountains, we combine premaculture design principles and traditional farming practices to create our homestead.
Our small holding is 1 hectare and is surrounded by beautiful forests, we are 5 km from the nearest village (Horodnic de Sus) and 10 km from the nearest town (Radauti).
We started out in 2015 and so far have completed a large fish pond (200 sq. m) which is also used for irrigation and swimming. Three swales have been constructed and planted, planted the fruit garden and sown a hemp and flax patch. We have recently acquired two milking goats and a flock of indian running ducks.
The main super adobe house is under construction with the basement in place and we hope to get the earthbag walls in place this year.
This year’s projects include building slow sand water filter, solar shower, summer kitchen, raised beds and a rocket stove mass heater.
The farm is connected to the national electric supply however we are planning to eventually... more inside

We bought an old house with 9600 sqm of land (part of it with an old orchard with several plum varieties, apples, sour and sweet cherries). The land was not cared for at least the last 15 years so ... it is pretty free of any chemicals (or, at least, it should be).

What we plan to do there:
- clean the place (vegetation, hundreds of trees/bushes)
- do a chicken house
- raise some fences around the property
- clean the small pond (30 sqm or so)
- do a greenhouse
- design the place
- design and implement a drip irrigation system
- inoculate more mushrooms on the logs we will cut
- prepare beekeeping stuff (we have 3 hives now)
- renovate the house (it never rained inside it)
- clean the trees and plant new and mark the ones for grafting on them in the spring
- tons of other stuff to be done

So .. a lot of choices, depending on the weather, the help we get and so on.

Accommodation: the house is not yet livable (needs cleaning, r... more inside

We are Maria and Catalin and we need help (approx. 6 hours a day; 5 days a week) for harvesting manually a small field of lavender, taking care of vegetables in the garden and some easy things to do in the house or courtyard. This is in exchange for all food, accommodation, a beautiful area and the opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people. We enjoy what we do and we ask that you are easy going too and flexible as some days there may be more to do, while on other days there will be less. Days off can be arranged and usualy from saturday mid-day we are not working until monday. Accommodation is in roumanian traditional house, two rooms and small kitchen. The house is in the village Balsa, 25 km from town Orastie, in a beautiful place surrounded by trees, very peacefully. This is our summer house. Usually we are cooking for our helpers, guiding them to see the castles and special places around, we show and explain them traditions and history of the region. Depending on the... more inside

Update (early August): No more chance for HelpX till early September, I'm afraid - but if you're around in late September/October there will be things to be done, for sure. Help welcome then!

Come and do the Timewarp in Transylvania... It's a little bubble of rural paradise, 1,000m up in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania, where villagers still use horses and carts, make hay with scythes, use traditional smallholding skills and have a simple way of life. I've had a number of HelpXers over the last few years and they've made a fantastic contribution to the house and the garden, for which I'm extremely grateful. For instance: A little gang last autumn dug out a bank in the garden and built a wall and firepit with the tonnes of limestone boulders they unearthed. A couple built a long flight of steps using beams from the old shed; Australian Dave mended fences and chopped firewood; a couple from the UK helped create my stunning wood-lined attic; a Canadian couple d... more inside

Hello dear helpers.

I´m a 30 years old romanian girl born in Sibiu, who moved to this area to live a more qualitative life, with organic grown food, better air/soil and water, less or no hectic, with more animals around me,...

I am very interested in this lovely intercultural exchange, where all can enrich themselves, broaden their perspectives, eat and feel the power of love and nature and make the world a better place to live in...even if it means taking these small steps.

Attention: there are more than three Valisoaras in Romania, this one where i live belongs to the commune of Balsa, in county Hunedoara.
Balsa is a commune composed of fourteen villages: Almasu Mic de Munte, Ardeu, Balsa, Bunesti, Galbina, Mada, Oprisesti, Poiana, Poienita, Rosia, Stauini, Techereu, Valisoara and Voia.
I´m 39km from Orastie. The nearest airport is in Sibiu(119 km from here), but there are more airports which aren't that far from Valisoara: Cluj-Napoca(175km), Timisoara(209km).
I don´t k... more inside
