We would like to hear from prospective helpers who would like to stay with us in 2019.
Your enthusiastic HelpXer input is needed to help bring back 5 hectares of beautiful south east facing down land in East Sussex back in to use after being neglected for many years. Lots of chopping, cutting, mowing and strimming. Chain saw skills an advantage. The new fencing is complete, and 7 lovely Herdwick sheep have arrived to help with the grazing and will lamb in April. I am currently researching the possibility of growing vines on half of the south facing field, and am preparing for a campsite next season The veg garden is up and running thanks to Michael and our helpers last year, and needs planting, weeding and maintaining to keep up supplies of lovely veg. to eat. The land is about 1.5 km from the house and is an easy cycle or pleasant walk through the fields via a footpath. We would also like help with DIY and other jobs at our home which is in need of some TLC.

This hillside farm property has been in the family since 1904. For the majority of this time the farm was a traditional dairy farm reliant on petrochemical fertilisers, feed supplements and red diesel. In August 2006 I (Ian) returned from working abroad to start a new business on the farm to prove small scale agriculture can be environmentally aware, promote biodiversity and remain viable in a difficult and competitive market such as food production.

Today:
• Operates an on farm butchery and bakery
• Is an employer both on the farm outside Oswestry, Shropshire where we look after the land, animals, run courses and make pies, and in Hatfield, Herts for delivering into London and the SE
• Is a real working farm with free range animals
• Distributes chilled food products on behalf of national award winning chefs and food producers

The proceeds from these activities are re-invested by a Community Interest Company providing horticultural therapy projects for a wide range of l... more inside

Hi HelpXers,

Mum (Pat) and I (James) moved here about 7 years ago to get some land, escape the busy city consumer lifestyle and start on a path of sustainability and self-sufficiency. My partner Holly is also staying here with us. We are starting to produce our own organic food, water, energy, materials and much more. Basically trying to remove the dependencies we have on big corporations and the failing economic system. I believe we need to re-establish community, sharing, loving and helping each other, rather than pursuing our manufactured need for money, big TVs, fast cars and bling etc!

Short term we are looking for someone to help with jobs such as weeding, potting up, wood chipping, splitting logs, digging, housework, woodwork/repairs, strimming, re-pointing the stone walling and paving slabs, hedge cutting etc. Being familiar with basic tools such as a saw and drill would be useful.

Long term we are looking for someone to fir in with the day to day jobs, and be able ... more inside

I am always looking for someone (or two) with basic landscaping skills, and basic carpentry skills. I enjoy having couples to stay, as they are a bit more independent. This summer I am looking for a couple (or singleton) to help me in the garden as I am having an outdoor dining room constructed and there will be some tidying up to do. There will also be a little interior decorating to do. I would supervise and work alongside you.

I had a very positive experience five years ago with my first HelpXer who in 10 weeks transformed
my garden from a builder's site into a lovely lawned gadren.Since then I have had a regular stream of marvellous young people.

I am a good cook. You will have a room and bathroom to yourself in my comfortable house. I am quite social and will include you in the social network in the area.

My house is a few miles from the coast, nature reserve etc and these are a short bike ride away. Yoxford is a charming village with 2 pubs, 2 good restaurants, and ... more inside

Looking for help in 2019 ;)

Hi, This is a great opportunity if you can speak some English but want to improve. I have opportunities until November 2019. Volunteers have played a big part in helping me and its been a very positive and happy experience for them and me.

If you are outgoing, positive and would enjoy a new working experience on a boat this would be ideal for you.
We are looking for someone who can help with information and selling tickets for tourists. So, lots of speaking English. Also, helping on the boat occassionally for trips

Bath is a fantastic (small) historic and picturesque city to be based, going back to Roman times. It`s only a few minutes away from Bristol, another great city.

You will need basic conversational English, show an interest in working and living on a boat and be able to talk to tourists in the town centre about out trips. Helpers enjoyed being in the town centre with the buskers and their music!

Volunteers have use... more inside

We are looking for a enthusiastic volunteer to help us in our permaculture kitchen garden, and our cafe, the kitchen garden has a full time experienced gardener, but she could always do with a little extra help a couple of hours a day. The cafe has a couple of full time staff, a lovely Spanish girl, who started here as a volunteer 2 years ago and is now employed, in the summer months they always need someone to help over the busy lunchtime period. The food is home-made with produce from the kitchen garden, if you are interested in cooking there is also the opportunity to get involved cooking. Next to the cafe is our home store selling vintage & lifestyle products, oppportunies to help out in the shop too. You would have your own room in a house next to our kitchen garden, all the veg you can eat and fresh eggs from our chickens. The house is fairly basic, but it’s warm, light with lovely views, a garden and good WiFi, we are in the process of building a new one. Previous exper... more inside
