Hi - Colleen and I have a small 'lifestyle block' on the Otago Central Rail Trail - (Cycle trail) at Kokonga between Hyde and Ranfurly in Central Otago. This is between Alexandra and Dunedin. Weather in the summer hot and dry - in winter cold and fine.
Right now and in coming months - We are building a workshop, landscaping, growing a small crop of potatoes and planning to build a new home overlooking the mountains.
I'm also a tour guide and guiding season is approaching and so is growing season.
So, what's to do? There's all the usual large property and grounds work, lawns, weeding, hedges, glasshouse, paths, firewood to gather, chainsaw and stack. Fergus our wee tractor is our extra pair of strong hands.
The main job is to help with the workshop build, so ideally you need to have construction skills. An insurance cover for health issues will also be required. The extent of your stay will depend on your skills, values and our personal affinity. However 1 week is our minimu... more inside

A new season is luring around the corner and we are getting ready for it! Will YOU come and join us? Homegrown Glenorchy (Facebook) as we know of does not exist anymore…unfortunately we had to leave the old garden grounds but are excited to have found a new plot to play big. Let’s start again on a 2h hillside to create Permaculture goodness and self sustainable gardens but this time for good! Would you be interested in joining the Team in season 2019-2020?
Breaking in new land means a lot of work, the past garden has taken us 8-10 years in the making…meaning, with being on the front line of this new project, we need you to be fit and firm in walking, lifting and shifting…we on a hill side now and going up and down is a daily task. Unfortunately, all accommodation will be held in tents this season, new huts and shelters have first to be re-created. Therefore, it would be good if you flexible and okay with spending lots of time outdoors!
Most groundbreaking work at the start of a... more inside

WE ARE CURRENTLY SEEKING AWESOME HELPXERS BETWEEN NOVEMBER 1ST AND NOVEMBER 8TH TO HELP WITH PAINTING A HOUSE. EXPERIENCE A BONUS BUT NOT NECESSARY.

We live on an eco homestead in the heart of Oamaru--the coolest, funkiest town in New Zealand! There is a blossoming community of artists, musicians, and people with projects here. We are well known for our Victorian architecture and local colonies of penguins. Sophia first came here on a cycle tour in 2006 around the South Island and now lives here permanently--Oamaru is the kind of place you just want to stay! Marky grew up here, ventured the world and loved Oamaru so much he came home.

We own houses that are next door to each other and we are developing our dream of an eco homestead, and an eco-village eventually! Sophia works from home as a consultant, language teacher and homemaker. She is currently completing a 10 month Permaculture Design Course and implementing permaculture projects on the ecohomestead.
