Hi, we are brother and sister Jacob (28) and Bethany (30), together with our partners, we run an equestrian stunt team and dog boarding kennels in the Borders of Scotland. We set up our business in 2008 after 9 years living in France and doing our horse entertainment/circus/re-enactment shows. While we were living in France our parents hosted helpX and other volunteers, we have had many interesting people stay with us.

There are 7 full time members in our team who live and work on our farm. It is a group of young people motivated to work hard to create a successful business. Jacob and his partner Sophie have two young children who also live on the farm. Jacob and Bethany were taught at home. We are vegetarian and don't smoke, people are most welcome when they are similar to us. Anyone who comes to stay will find a friendly relaxed atmosphere.

We have horses, dogs, a sheep, a goat, chickens, cats and two ferrets. Part of your job as a helper would be to help look after all o... more inside

We've been part of Helpx for several years now and have met some wonderful people from all over the world, many of whom we still keep in touch with.

We live in York, in the north of England, where we have a garden and (a 10 minute walk away) an allotment where we grow fruit and vegetables.

We try to cultivate using the `no-dig` method and like to re-use and recycle wherever possible.

Our house has solar panels on the roof for water and electricity as we are keen to reduce our impact on the environment.

The work includes turning and spreading compost, weeding, seed sowing, planting out, grass cutting and fence painting.

From early summer, fruit and vegetables are ready to be harvested and prepared for freezing and conserving.
If the weather is bad then there are always jobs to get on with in the house, garage and greenhouse.

We can offer all meals, laundry and accommodation, (in a double bed/own bathroom) in return for a helping hand, usually around 4-5 hours a day... more inside

We have several old Apple trees and a newly planted Orchard, our garden has grown in size year on year with a wide variety of fruit and vegetables, including quite a few Squash and a lot of Blueberries, we also have a few Tomatoes and Peppers/Chilli in our Greenhouse, we again don`t have any Animals during 2019.
With help we aim to continue to increase the size of our garden each year, on top of the normal planting and looking after the crops there are new raised beds to create, hedges to be tended, grass and brambles to cut back. There are always jobs like moving stone, digging and cutting wood. Over the next couple of years I'd like to construct a fruit cage, chicken tractor, composting toilet, fencing, dry stone walling plus a whole lot more. I`m also open to new ideas. 16th August, all shed roofs have been repaired now it's great to see everything watertight. Still have various maintenance jobs to do , fencing etc. So help appreciated, in exchange for nice surroundings, good food and fun (ish) company.
1st May 2018 At the moment we are mainly looking for help with general house maintenance including painting, we have 3 sheds that need reroofing and acouple of fences to repair.
Welcome to our bit of madness!!! "Madness?" you ask. Well, we are trying to establish a forest garden on 2.5 ish acres of North facing, tree shaded land.
Forest gardens are difficult in a temperate climate anyway, we just enjoy a challenge! All that said we live in a beautiful home and a magical setting, no visible neighbours, the only houses we see are across the water on Anglesey. We are in the foothills of Snowdonia and have great walks starting from the house, Aber Falls being an hours walk over the hill.
This year we are doing a bit of building work, starting with... more inside

We are a family farm, with a dairy herd of Brown Swiss cows on a New Zealand paddock grazing system.
We grow as much of the cattle feed as possible. We also have an anaerobic digester 180KWh
Our outputs are cheese and electricity. We are not organic, but have received many awards for education and sustainable farming/green energy/environmental issues.
We have hosted several people through other schemes, vetinary students, cheesemakers, people interested in anaerobic digestion, we are Warmshowers hosts.
Helpers could be involved with calf rearing, cheesemaking or working to restore our walled garden, according to skills and interests

Its warm here, the hot water from the anaerobic digestion heats the house!

We are close to the North sea ( 3 miles). The neighboring community of Wells next the Sea has shops, cinema, theatre, bars. Sailing and canoeing available on the harbour. From the village there are several buses daily to Kings Lynn and Norwich and along the c... more inside

Hi we are looking for some help with landscaping / improving our garden - nothing particularly skilled just a bit of time and hard work needs to be spent out there. At the moment we are preparing an area for paving so quite heavy work. Perhaps if you were a couple and the work in the garden was a little too strenuous for one of you, you could help inside the home a bit, preparing food, cleaning etc. You will be working mostly during the day whilst we are at work but we can work together during the weekend.
Don't worry google maps is out dated and we've done lots of improvements already! we'd hope that you like children, are enthusiastic, cheerful, able to work of initiative and independently. We are able to offer you a room (bunk beds) and use of our home facilities wifi etc along with breakfast and an evening meal each day. In exchange for 4/5 hours work a day with a couple of days off each week where you could explore the local city of Brighton, the south downs or even catch ... more inside
