We are a couple that live on our property of 14 hectares (35 acres) along with our daughter and her husband and children that live here in separate accommodation. The property is a private, peaceful setting among farmland, rivers and trees and is a 25 minute walk to view an amazing waterfall. We live 20 minutes from Whangarei City which is a vibrant city of cafes, retail and art galleries with an amazing waterside location as well as some beautiful beaches and bush walks. Whangarei is just over 2 hours from Auckland and just over 1 hour from the beautiful Bay of Islands.

We are looking for someone (or a couple or 2 friends) who could help us with gardening, painting, cleaning and other maintenance jobs around our property. If you had building or painting skills that would be a real bonus as we run a business on our property building cabins.

We have a lovely double bedroom or two single rooms for you inside our home and we also have 2 lounges which means there is plenty of roo... more inside

Welcome Help Exchangers. I am your host, Darwin, and I am living on a 20 ha rural life-style property on the wild West Coast, just 15 km south-west of Te Kopuru (see map) and Dargaville (Northland). I had a career in medical and scientific research and was a medical school professor for nearly 25 years. Now I spend my time doing artwork in clay, bronze metal and wood. I am happy to teach you some of these skills as well during your visit.

I am happy to host HelpX workers/guests that are capable of supervised and/or unsupervised outdoor work on the property that would include brush clearance, earthwork building trails to the beach, and general outdoor works and some housework (spring cleaning). I have a great workshop for artwork if you are interested in this during your leisure time.

I expect HelpX guests to be gay-friendly or gay-accepting. In addition, HelpX Guests should like dogs, as my "girls" (Siberian Huskies) have free range of the home, and there is dog-fur ever... more inside

We are a family of four (including two boys aged 8 & 10), living on our family farm, situated on the south side of the Whangarei Harbour. The farm has been in the family for almost 150 years. We currently farm sheep and cattle, along with ducks and hens! We are not organic but are practising biological / regenerative farming methods. We have plans to diversify...replanting an old orchard with citrus and subtropical fruit, improving our olive grove and planting more NZ natives. We have almost completed some farm-stay accommodation and are continuing with our traditional farm activities, including seasonal jobs such as shearing sheep and haymaking. We are also researching adding value to our coarse wool, experimenting with rugs and other products.

Work depends on time of year, but includes gardening and weeding, general farm work, sometimes building maintenance eg painting, tree planting and possibly general house work such as window cleaning. We would expect 4-5 hours work p... more inside

We have good and plentiful food here, as I am a chef! Chores focus on the horses, stable cleaning, paddock picking, grooming, weeding and fence clearing. We are currently taking a break from Helpx for a while but we may have paid work available for the right people either hourly, or potting on contract in our nursery where you are paid per plant, mostly 25litre & 45litre bags. It is preferred that you can drive a manual vehicle around the nursery (off road). You will need to be able to work neatly & quickly. You should easily be able to make $19-$21 per hour, up to $30 is possible, & has been achieved often before if you are good. Longer term stays only considered. As you will be the only Helpxers, we suggest 2 hrs, & you look after yourself. (RATHER THAN THE STANDARD HELPX DEAL)-for this you would need your own transport too) We provide unlimited free wifi that's pretty reliable too. We have a 6ha block, of which 4ha is in nursery and garden centre, remainder orchard, veges, ornamental planting. A small stream goes through the middle which we have planted, its great in summer to lie in the shade under a tree. A variety of job... more inside

I have a lifestyle block in the most beautiful part of NZ. Overlooking Houhora Harbour, with nearby beaches on both east and west coast less than 5 mins drive, and Cape Reinga approximately less than an hour drive.
The property has 2 tourist accommodation rentals, a house dog, pig, selection of poultry including ducks, hens and guinea fowl.
Work includes helping with the holiday rentals, extensive gardens, household chores, general farmwork and maintenance, feeding animals and poultry.
It is important that helpers have their own transport as there is no public transport north of Kaitaia.
Private room is available and meals are provided with the option of sharing cooking if preferred. Arrangements can be discussed re working hours but based on 4hrs per day each day or 8hrs per day followed by a day free to do as you wish, touring, fishing, surfing, tramping etc.
Limited Wifi, free landline calling within NZ and mobile coverage are available.
I would welcome your company and ... more inside

This home is about midway between Kaiwaka and Maunguturoto on a rural road; it would be easier for you if you had a car; it's 20 minutes to the sea at Mangawhai Heads or Waipu Cove and 90 minutes to Auckland (depends on traffic).
The house is a Kauri built house of about 1900 set in an acre of mostly wood and lawns. It's quiet and rural, a home with a comforting vibe (NO smoking - sorry)
We'd like people who can stay for a few days or up to two weeks if it suits.
(Due to family plans we are not looking for people to come after December 15th.)

WHAT DO WE NEED HELP WITH? Garden work. Encourage the right things to grow and help beat the weeds. There is an old sleepy dog and a lively cat .
4 hours help a day in return for great home and facilities.
You get a Comfy large bed, TV, DVD, Freeview Broadband/wi-fi.
Local gym/library/cafes shops 15 mins drive
I am afraid we only speak English. Bob is vegetarian though happy for you to eat what suits you.

We've lived overseas for many years, including time in South America, Asia and the Middle East, and returned six years ago to start our 'off grid adventure'. Having 'internationalized' it's been time to put some roots down (literally) in a sustainable, creative and co-evolutionary way. These days we're a family of four (kids aged 3 and 6) and a friendly dog. We speak some Spanish and a little Japanese and would receive foreigners eagerly (also fellow NZers of course). We're one hour's drive from the nearest towns (Kaitaia and Kerikeri) although a small organic co-op is twenty-five minutes away. Neighbours include a Bee-Keeper and his family, artists, potters and homesteaders, some of whom are open to receiving helpers who may wish to spend more time in the area.
People wishing to learn about setting up off-grid so that they can do so themselves would be able to pick up valuable skills at our place. Because we are still building our home, accommodation and facilities are limited. H... more inside
