in 2015 we moved to beautiful Doubtless Bay in the Far North where we are transforming 2.5 acres of bare land (partly pasture, partly regenerated Manuka bush ) into Findhorn inspired gardens and orchards. We are on a hillside surrounded by pastures and forests and enjoy the great skies. Especially at night time the clear view of the Milky Way (hardly any light pollution here) is overwhelming. There is abundant bird life, and with our growing food production more birds find their way to our valley and garden. Jo (60) has been a gardener and food grower for many years. He has knowledge of plants, permaculture and sustainable living; he is very good at digging holes and creating fertile soil. Shelene (59) is a skilled knife-weeder, good at chopping out gorse bushes and in constant battle with a native Far North parasite weed (cassytha-paniculata/mawhai or Devil's twine). In the last 2 years we have established a mixed fruit orchard, vege gardens and a sub-tropical meander, in accord to... more inside

Hi there,

Firstly, just letting you know I, (Sue, am overseas till 22nd March. If interested, dont use my home or cell numbers but use this site to contact me. If you decide to come I'll give you my husbands Brians phone number. (My phone will bring in Roaming charges.)

My house is a pretty funky style house about 3 kms from Kerikeri center in a very nice setting. There are many hiking trails beaches and scenery to explore in this area.I expect 4 hours a day of work from the helpers, and the rest of the day is free.I have garden maintenance and sometimes creative 'projects'to be done. I am part of a great community garden ,which is where we get all our veggies and helpers will enjoy seeing how it operates. I provide 3 meals a day and assistance with preparing the evening meal is appreciated. The house has wifi, which helpers are free to use. I have 2 rooms for the guests, one of them is a double room.
Mindy(my cat) and I looking forward to hearing from you.
Cheers,
Louisa

My property feels remote and very tranquil and has a lot of native bush but is less than 10 mins to nearest small town with grocery store cafes etc. Currently accommodation is small, rustic and basic. No bedroom at present for anyone other than owner. Best suited to helpers with own campervan or comfortable camp site set up by host. You would be 5'mins drive to beautiful harbour with great fishing and boating options, many beautiful east coast beaches for swimming and relaxing, bush walks/hiking and larger town all within 20 -30 minute drive. This is a developing property and I need help with almost everything from clearing weeds, creating bush tracks, minor building\carpentry projects, fencing, cutting firewood, establishing a glamping site, and anything else to begin creating a home and small scale lifestyle block. In return I can supply 3 meals per day, access to shower, toilet and solar power and happy to show you around this beautiful area if you wish. Helping hours and length of... more inside

We are a vegetarian family with school aged children (10 and 12) and are located in a picturesque valley by a rocky bottomed river. We share our land with 3 horses, pigs, dogs, ducks and chooks.

We currently need someone to collect and stack pre-cut firewood, sanding furniture weeding gardens, general housework and exterior house painting. You will learn to drive our quad bike (easy peasy) to help with some of these tasks.

We prefer you to arrive on a Thursday or Friday so we can spend time with you on the weekend helping you to settle in as we work during the week

Meals and snacks are included. Work is 4 hours daily plus the evening dishes. You will need to be able to work independantly at times, especially on days that we are at work.

We are passionate about preserving our environment have finally completed our project to covenant most of the forested areas of our land under the QE2 Trust.

Being good hosts is important to us and we value the extra help and... more inside

Accomodation available in exchange for two hours general garden and/or lifestyle block help per day.. eg. pruning trees, chopping wood, lawn mowing, cleaning out hen house. We are on solar power and have a 3 sided bottle and cob structure overlooking the river for helpers to stay in. We are non certified organic. Non smokers please. We are 15 minutes from Kaitaia so your own car would be beneficial.. we can also pick you up in town if needed. Shared cooking/meals to experience other flavours.. being able to whip up a tasty dish a bonus! :) Come and experience nature at its best..

First time on HelpX although we have hosted travellers/helpers before :)
