This is a 500 acre family owned cattle station & mango property that is bordered by the Elliot River which flows out to the Coral Sea. We try to produce as much of our food from the property, the Elliot River and the nearby sea. We have free range chickens and grow most of our fruit and vegetables.

Depending on the time of the year we need help with planting, weeding, picking and processing our fruit and vegetables, trimming the mango and other trees, general property maintenance work and cleaning of our holiday rental home.

We have a very comfortable fully furnished house for our helpers that sleeps up to 4. We encourage our helpers to interact with us and share stories, food preparation and meals. In return we ask for 5 hours help per day for 5 days per week.

We are happy to pick our helpers up if needed from a bus/train station. We will show you where you can go for walks along the river and fishing spots if you want to try to catch your own fish.

The property is lo... more inside

Foreword: It is a lot more than just volunteering: It is about sharing our current lifes. You are travelling and exploring the world looking for new experiences, knowledge, to learn about yourself, improve and share your skills, see new landscapes and wildlife and discover people’s way of life and their society. From experience, those of you who are on this journey also have a strong connection with the environment and what we are doing to it.I have a base and transport to share with you. Like you I am a traveller and have the same desires as you do. I still have so much to experience, improve and learn. My life goal has always been to try and improve the way we live as a society for individual wellbeing, the environment and the collective. Now I am single I am able to return to focus on my goal.

DOCUMENTING MY SUSTAINABLE SETUP:

I am looking for someone who would be interested in documenting my attempt to live a more sustainable life.

We need animal friendly (preferably rabies vaccinated; bloody government, stupid and pointless, regulations with regard to Flying Foxes) volunteers willing to pitch in for just about anything required to maintain the integrity and cleanliness of the wildlife enclosures.

We currently have vacancy for both October and then December - November is fully booked

Our needs are for general handyperson - or anyone who wants to help with `casual` labour plus the animal care......
The rainforest is a difficult environment, it is for the adventurous. Please – we only ask for resilient people who are ‘into’ the environment and wildlife. It does require commitment, compassion and a sense-of-humour – EVERY DAY!
PS: Please like cleaning (sweeping and washing down floors) – our animals need care.

From our recent experience with helpers, most say they should have organised to stay longer than 7-10 days

We live in a beautiful corner of Queensland, near the New South Wales border, in a scenic valley surrounded by mountains, with national parks and water falls nearby. We have a small cattle property (cows and calves) with two cottages rented out for short stays for guests. We are about 2 hours from Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

We enjoy welcoming people from other cultures to our home. We have a close family and our helpers are like extended family to us. We have a lot of family activities which we like you to join in with. Most of the family is musical and we have a piano, keyboard and guitar which you are welcome to use.

We need occasional help with cattle (mustering, vaccinating etc) fencing, perhaps painting, gardening, cleaning cottages etc. We use quad bikes to muster our cattle and a tractor for other farm use. I can show you how to drive a tractor if you have never used one.

We will welcome you as family and hope you will join us in our family activities. We partic... more inside

Availability from October to December

Would you like to see how permaculture and sustainable living can be combined in an urban environment? Come and see rain water harvesting, no dig gardens, seed collecting etc, making mulch.

I am located at the Sunshine Coast at Buderim, 4km from beaches and close to public transport.

My goal is to produce as much food of my own as possible by growing herbs, fruit and vegetables. I also have a couple of chickens and a compost area for improving my soil. I enjoy teaching helpers practical gardening skills and basic permaculture, organic gardening and cooking skills using garden produce. My situation is ideal for a couple who have a vehicle.

I prefer helpers with a prior knowledge / experience in gardening or permaculture or an expressed interest in learning about permaculture for their future lives. Helpers need a good eye for detail and will be able to follow detailed instructions, and have the ability to work indepe... more inside
