LOOKING FOR A HOUSE/ANIMAL SITTER AUGUST 16TH - 22ND 2018

. Our farm is located in the idyllic Allens Rivulet region just south of Hobart - we have had loads of great HelpX workers helping out and partying in our old Appleshed at night. The farm is located 30km southwest of Hobart and is easily accessible via the Huon Highway (we can pick you up from the bus stop along the highway). At the moment there are plenty of preparation jobs to complete, plus some small renovations on old sheds. We also have horses (mine and others) and chickens to look after. There is plenty of work to do to keep the farm running. Summertime help is bringing in the hay and weeding, for the rest of the year it is random jobs to suit your skill base. You will stay in a small self contained cottage or an old dairy. After hard days of work we have plenty of options to relax and have some fun! There is a local tennis court where we can play for free, we have a ping-pong table with continuously ongoing to... more inside

We are an owner builder family living in the bush 25kms south of Hobart. We both work part time as artists and have built our contemporary timber, solar passive home and a cosy cabin which has two bedrooms and a bathroom. Our teenage son currently lives in one room so the other would suit one person, or two people who are happy to share a room with a double bed or an extra swag.

Take a hot bath among the trees, surrounded by native wildlife, gaze at the stars far from light pollution. Camp cooking on an outdoor fire pit, beautiful walks to breathtaking views or if you're game, ride our MBT. The block is flanked on all sides by farms and bushland. We have chickens and a food garden, our neighbours have cows and sheep if you'd like to experience baby lambs and calves. Sometimes we help with hay carting in the summer.

This could be the perfect combination of experiencing the Tasmanian bush while you have the luxury of modern living in dwellings designed to keep you warm whi... more inside

We are a small family owned, self sufficient farm, 40mins south of Hobart. We have 2 boys, aged 14 and 16.
We have a big interesting house and we think we are friendly, kind and fair hosts!
We grow a big mixture of seasonal cut flowers to sell at Salamanca Market and heritage fruit trees, berries and have large vegetable garden for our own use. We have lots of chickens, 2 pigs, 2 dogs and 2 cats. We have amazing views over the D'entrecasteaux Channel and Bruny Island. 15min drive to Cygnet, 5min drive to Kettering ferry terminal to Bruny island.
Everyday work is easy and doesn't require prior skills .... we will show you how to do everything. But we live on a hill and you will get fit walking up and down our garden...
Work includes general gardening maintenance, lots of weeding & mulching (using the wheelbarrow), feeding animals, flower picking, firewood collecting and stacking, and maybe some general housework (washing up especially!) Accommodation ideal for a couple or a si... more inside

We are looking for one person or a couple to stay, help and enjoy the area from October 2018 (longer stays of a few weeks preferred!!).

My partner and I run a small boat tour business in Eaglehawk Neck on the Tasman Peninsula (1 hour from Hobart) and raise orphaned wildlife that we release back into the wild once the little ones are old enough.

WHAT WE REQUIRE:

Someone who is keen to give us a hand raising our wallaby babies (cleaning and potentially feeding) and to help rinse and tidy up watersports equipment. There will also be some easy gardening work (watering, weeding, mulching) and other simple tasks for you to do. Also, you might have a special talent.. Are you a web geek / a builder / a blogger / a film maker / a designer? Please tell us about it and maybe we can create a fun project for you! We expect approx 3-4 hours of work per day (6 days a week), mainly in the morning and at lunch time.

Lunch - toasted sandwiches (ham, salami, salad)
Dinner - variety of foods
You prepare your own breakfast and lunch and we will share the cooking for dinner.

The property has been designed using Permaculture principles, and Biodynamic preparations are also used. We grow our own fruit and vegetables, and are developing a small blueberry farm. We harvest our own firewood and water and the house is solar powered.

We are carnivorous, but can cater for vegetarians. We are also smokers and have a dog. Accommodation is a self contained campervan or camping on the property, with meals and use of facilities in the house.

Work would involve four hours per day of general gardening, orchard tree care, blueberry picking in season (Jan-Feb), firewood, brushcutting etc.
The property overlooks a beautiful valley, and there is lots of bushwalking available in the nearby Western Tiers. There are many flat roads for cycling, and Lake Huntsman close by for kayaking and swimming.

There are buses to Deloraine, 18 kms away, from which pickup can be arranged.

DOES ANYONE LIKE THE COLD?

I am a City Host with a big old house and large garden. There is always work to be done in the garden: mulching, weeding, trimming back bushes, sweeping. Painting if you enjoy that kind of work. The house always needs some tidying and dusting, etc.
I am a seasoned traveller (lived/worked in Hong Kong for the past 13 years as an English teacher for the HK Education Dept) and so can help in language aquisition if required.
I have friends who are Helpx/Wwoof hosts who can also offer you work, if you are interested in variety; they can offer second Work Visa (I cannot)
Often we 'share' our Helpers so they get a great well-rounded experience,: a city experience and a bush/country experience.

I am right in the city of Hobart, just 15 mins walk to the CBD, and close to the main route leading south to the famous Tasmanian wilderness area.

Get in touch if you are interested and let's have a chat.

We run a home based beekeeping business (100 hives), we have gardens, fruit trees, 3 young horses under 12 mths and 4 chooks. We do not smoke and use no chemicals on our property, Our bees are cared for organically too. Help needed is mainly garden based, or in winter helping refurbish bee gear. In Summer the opportunity may arise that helpers can learn to extract honey and visit other locations where the bees are kept.
