We are now looking for HelpXers for the new year.

We are Ron and Judi and we have lived in Northern Brittany for over 13 years and shared the last 11 or so of these with our alpacas! We have been joined from time to time by fantastic helpers who have helped us make life at La Grand-Mere even more wonderful!

We always have lots of outdoor work, which at the moment is helping with the clearing of fallen trees, strimming, constructing a small log and tractor shed and replacing paddock fencing. Later in the season there will be lots of leaf blowing and clearing.
We also have lots of tree work if you have the skills!
Our old bread oven too awaits some loving attention!

Our work can be quite physical so we need strong, energetic, enthusiastic helpers and we would prefer couples rather than singles at the moment.

The focus of our life here is our animals, a small herd of alpacas, chickens, cats and a large flock of doves! For us, the highlight of each day involves doing our... more inside

I am a classical guitarist and Raphaelle is a jeweler, an avid gardener and passionate about healing with traditional methods using herbs and plants. We also have beehives and a produce honey.

Over the past few months we have not had the time to keep our garden and veggie plot in order. There is a good deal of trmming, shredding and weeding to do. So we'd especially appreciate someone with sensitive gardening experience but who would like to hike in the nearby pine forests and mountains and visit the sea coast, la cote bleue. Aix, just a few minutes from here is gorgeous and bustling with cultural activity. The Alliance Française has courses set up in Aix and we will work around their schedules.

You've got your own room and bath and a separate kitchen for the times when you have your meals on your own. Cheers, Dana

We work on a superb site in the Pyrenees (in the mountains in Ariege - South-west of France)and renovate a small farm with a big organic garden, 2 donkeys. We live in a sustainable and low impact way.
We need help for the garden (planting, weeding) and the rehabilitation of the houses, taking care of the animals, helping us for cutting wood, making fences, hay making in summertime, and also participating a little bit at the house cleaning while we have also a small B&B activity in summertime. For the fall, we would welcome a guy who can help us with rebuilding stone-walls, wood cutting, fences fixing, land-cleaning...
We expect helpers minimum 25 years old who can speak and understand french; and who have already some physical and hand-working experience.
We are also musicians..

Nous rehabilitons une ancienne ferme dans les Pyrenees (dans la montagne en Ariege, dans le sud-ouest de la France) dans un esprit bio/ecologique/auto-suffisant/ permaculture depuis 6 ans avec un grand... more inside

We (Phil and Helen) have lived on our 6 hectare permaculture smallholding in a very quiet village in the middle of Brittany for the last 25 years.
We were self sufficient for a large part of the time whilst seeing our family grow up and even becoming grandparents recently.Helen also runs a local cafe, shop, bar.
At the farm we still have chickens, sheep, a dog, cats and now and then a pig for the freezer.
Part of our land is a forest garden alongside a large polytunnel, whilst the rest is wetland, there is also a huge oak tree on the property

Learning is a journey into the unknown!

We will always try our best to let people work on the projects that interest them the most-
either at the smallholding or the renovation in the farmhouse or a mixture of the two.

At the smallholding we are currently :
Chopping firewood
Collecting mulch
Making compost
Planting trees
Brushcutting
Clearing streams.

We are also renovating our farmhouse and recycling various dis... more inside

There wll be garden work, weeding flower and veg beds. At this season there will be stacking and splitting wood with a pneumatic woodsplitter, easy but lifting logs onto it.
Adaptability and common sense are invaluable working in our situation.
We usually speak English in the house so it could be useful for those who wish to improve their English as well as their French.
Some Helpx have completed or started studies while here. Some have painted or explored the walkways on foot or with the bikes.
There are always individual garden projects. Previous helpers tamed a bamboo jungle, cleared an overgrown bog and built pathways. Others learnt to bottle fruit and make jams, pickles and chutneys.
We always have work with the animals. Feeding, looking after and cleaning out the chickens, sheep and lambs.
Normally helpers are in the main house. Their room has its own bathroom and facilities for personal tea/coffee making.
The potager/veg garden, both of the 2 lakes are in a natu... more inside
