Our new homestead is located in Detroit in a tight knit neighborhood of farmers and activists North of Six Mile and East of Woodward. This is a lovely historic neighborhood with a large close by park and easy access to both downtown and Ferndale. Palmer Park is a lovely park with a large wooded area, tennis courts, and regular events including free Saturday yoga. Those of us living in the home have been active farmers in Detroit for quite some time. We facilitate a community garden in Midtown/North Cass Corridor, and help out at other local farms as well. Your stay here will include work on our homestead, developing the garden, caring for chickens, setting up a fish farm, building a sustainable apartment in the garage, repairing and refinishing the home, setting up the grey water system, community organizing, setting up hives and work on local community projects including other community gardens in the neighborhood and community gardens in other neighborhoods. Duties will depend on ... more inside

We are an urban mini-farm with a natural earth building focus. Our garden is mainly a seed saving operation, as we are focusing on building an earth bag shed and retaining wall in the back yard. Volunteers will learn the techniques and process of building with earth, plastering and finish work. Length of stay will be one week to one month. Spare bedroom with bedding separate from living area, shared kitchen and spare bathroom. Our area has access to a light rail and all the highlights and drawbacks to living in a large city. We have two cats so please no allergic volunteers. Thanks!

We are developing a sustainable living homestead on our farm. Our goals are community outreach through educational programs as well as continuing to practice good organic growing methods for a market garden.

There are several different types of work available including:

Organic Gardening
Hoophouse construction and maintenance
Cabin Construction
Barn Construction
Animal Husbandry-we raise alpacas, sheep, goats, mini donkey named Nanny McPhee, mini-horse named Thunder Thunder Down Under, chickens, ducks, turkeys, bunnies, and more!
We also do a haunted farm and fall festival in the fall.

Looking for individuals or couples that have a little or a lot of experience. Enthusiasm and just good people are more than welcomed at our farm. Thinking about doing something like this but want to get your feet wet first? Try here in the summer months. I will answer every question you know and if I don't know the answer we can find it together:-)

If you want to see how to put together an organic farm from scratch this is your chance. The land is bought and undeveloped (Only one acre of the ten is even cleared.)

We will be putting in shelters, root cellar, growing areas, cutting fire wood and many other misc. projects. If I get WWOOFers some type of solar shower would probably be an immediate project! :-)

This farm is in the heart of the beautiful Ozarks, 10 miles from the nearest town.

If you are so inclined I have friends who's farms are much further along that could also use help on various projects and you could learn much from them also.

If you are a good cook you are much needed because I must admit that cooking is NOT my forte.

If we get along you may be able to stay year round as we are looking for community members.

I am trying to start a self sufficient community that focuses but is not exclusively vegetarian/vegan as I plan to have rabbits and chickens.
