We have moved to Bulgaria to set up a self sufficient subsistence small holding so we can take control of our own food supply. We keep and breed a wide range of animals and grow our own food.

We are not a commercial company or large business. We trade locally using barter and exchange where ever possible. We are investing time and money in our local area for the benefit of all, but with an emphasis on permanent residence, from all backgrounds.

We trade for a living not for profit !

Escaping the unsustainable consumerism of western society for a back to basics lifestyle in Bulgaria growing and rearing our own food.

My name is Andrew and I am English, my partner Maria is from Ukraine and we have two young boys Laykan 4ys and Samhain 3yrs, who we want to bring up in a place where they are more in touch with the natural world around them.

We sold our house in the UK and are investing all we have in Bulgaria, where we are establishing an organic smallholding to grow al... more inside

I am a writer, originally from Scotland, now living in Bulgaria. I have a two-story house in a small village near the popular tourist town of Tryavna in the Stara Planina Region.

I have two friendly dogs, a golden retriever called Magnus and a terrier (of unknown breed) called Mopsy, plus one chilled out cat, Mr. C. If you're an animal lover, so much the better.

Basically I can accommodate one or two people for up to two weeks, spring, summer or autumn. I could use some help with the following: Remedial work on the house (mainly outside work, painting and minor repairs). Gardening - ideally someone who knows about gardening, and is happy to do basic work like strimming, weeding and maybe some creative planting, too. Some cleanup work needed, too - around shed at the back of the house, for instance. Otherwise, just some help around the place, cooking, cleaning, etc.

I'd also value just a bit of company here, too, once in a while - I play guitar, write novels, have TV, Xbox... more inside

Hi there,
My Parnter, Andy (a Geordie) and I (Sheleen a Scouser) have been Living the Dream for 6 years now. We both have a passion for scuba diving and this is how we met. We both love to cook and entertain. We believe in work life balance. We are happy to be experiencing this right now.
As Ive backpacked around the world myself some of my favourite experiences were those spent volunteering. This was because I got to experience the culture of the country properly and I thought I would really like to offer that here.
We like to treat our volunteers like family, with respect and always include you in our leisure activities also, (this is optional of course), but just so you know its not all work work work. This enables you to experience real life in Bulgaria. You will meet our lovely neighbours and friends. We always say that our volunteers have a choice of hours but they all seem to want to just fit in with whatever we are doing. If you are going to be working full days ... more inside

Hello everybody,

we are in the starting phase for a our eco/community project in the central Balkan. The place is located in a magical lost village called Zhidevitsa, between the towns of Etropole and Teteven in the mountains. We now own a quite huge plot of land there with two old farmhouses on it. Opportunities still exist to buy land or old houses there. Our dream is that the whole village will come alive as an eco project :-)

We have already started to do some basic work (compost toilet, garden, some repairs on the house) but are very much still in planning/funding phase, so we're not in the place yet to take volunteers longer term.

Next general meeting is planned for end of March 2014 on spot, so if you truly feel the call to visit us then, or maybe you could even imagine to become part of the project, don't hesitate to contact us :-)

Our plans for the place include:

Water

- lake / water landscape (storage, micro-climate)
- grey water usage (circular wat... more inside

Hi,
I am renovating an old house and barns in the village of Hotnitsa, 15km from the town of Veliko Tarnovo. Honey House will eventually become a Yoga, Reiki and horse trekking center, hopefully taking its first residential paying guests some time in 2014. There is already a trickle of day guests for yoga, horse riding and therapies.

Basically I need help to turn the dream into a reality.
I am looking for people with some building/restoration knowledge, you don't have to be a master crafts person, but if you are that would be fantastic. Also artists to add beautiful instillations, find creative ways to make ugly old furniture look stunning or at least quirky and to help hide the cracks with colour and laughter. I am looking for helpx with a good sense of humour, who are willing to give everything a go. I would like this to be a happy experience for everyone. You need to be able to work without constant supervision as I am often busy with the horses or teaching, so people with ... more inside

Hello..Thanks for visiting our profile.
We are a young married couple without kids.
A Bulgarian guy and an Israeli woman who live in a small village in Bulgaria.
It is located near the city Veliko Tarnovo and Drjanovo.

We are both vets and vegans. So no meat, milk, eggs and honey in our house BUT we do not expect you to be vegan while you're here, only ask that you don't cook/eat animal products at our house, what you do away from the house in your own time is up to.

At the moment we have 3 horses and 4 dogs, we always rescue animals and find them homes, so this might change :) Not too long ago we had 7 dogs, but we found homes for almost all of them except for 2 that we've adopted over a year ago.
If you do not love animals - our house is probably not for you.

My dad from Israel bought this 100 year old house because it was his dream house and he could not afford it in Israel, since then we have been working on it, fixing it and make it livable. But even thought ... more inside

We are Svilena and Nikola + our 4 kids - a family that lives and makes a living in a sustainable way, close to Mother Nature. We own land in one of the most beautiful places in Bulgaria, the Rose Valley. Here we are managing a horseback riding club with a really cool dome- club-house, which is in the process of becoming a vegetarian bistro. We would need lots of help with it. On the other side of the river Tunja is situated our farm, where on the 8 hectares of pastures and farming land that we own, we have created our volunteering center. There is a pole-barn for our horses and a second, bigger pole barn, to store our alfalfa, hey, and straw bales. There are 2.5 hectars of alfalfa, 2.8 hectars of yummy raspberries. The market garden is 0.6 hectars of all kinds of veggies. All that is in a process for organic certification. We mostly use the permaculture methods and the garden is a great learning space for these.

We are seeking volunteers for building new eco-structures, as well a... more inside

We have just bought three homesteads in one village and already have more than 100 fruit trees in them, we are currently to clear the land after years of non use, harvesting and pruning trees, and preserving the produce and have a small amount of totally organic veggies being grown in one garden. We also take feeding the bees seriously, so there are lots of flowers and have just built a natural swimming pond which still needs landscaping around it. All work with be outdoors, none of it is vey heavy work. Myself, my husband Paul, our daughter, 5 cats and two dogs live here, and we are busy people all day long. Paul is a builder by trade who specialises in stone masonry, if you have a particular interest in learning that, I am sure he can help by involving you in one of our many projects. If you would like to stay here, the kind of work we would like you to do is fruit picking, tree pruning, weeding, digging, land clearing, wood cutting and storing. There will be loads of opportunitie... more inside
