Amazing opportunityÖ

From SEPTEMBER 2014ÖI require a tutor to teach my 2 children (UK education curriculum with alternative/progressive slant) in ESSAOUIRA, MOROCCO

I am a single parent planning to take my two children (a boy of 12 and girl of 11) out of the UK school system for 6 months to a year, to have a totally different experience. The idea is to live in Essaouira in Morocco and experience a different way of life - away from consumerism, mainstream media, never ending screen addiction and bad British weather - with a view to staying longer.

This will be a trial to see whether an unconventional life abroad may become a longterm commitment. I am a writer & stylist, blogger and DJ and hope to start a business designing while I am living in Morocco. My children are very enthusiastic - we creative people with a love of reading, watching films, listening to music, dancing and cooking delicious homemade vegetarian food.

I feel there is more to life than being a slave to ... more inside

Help please giving TLC to a 1 acre organic (non-certified) garden and additional 1 acre of land (which have been unloved by the previous owners for several years) in preparation for running yoga and spriritual retreats in the spring/summer 2014. The land is next to a site of special scientific interest. Project will include gardening, hedge laying, preparing a herb garden and fern garden and various water features and erecting/establishing a poly tunnel for organic home grown veg. Also if the volunteer(s) has/have the skills and experience, help is required converting an outbuilding to a bedroom with en suite bathroom for retreats and building some yurts. Help and guidance can be provided by a gardener with years of experience, if required, who is already helping with the project.

Currently looking for helpers from the end of September with food and board included.

We are a smallholding on the North Devon coast looking for volunteers for a diverse (and very exciting!) array of projects.

Last winter we set-up a luxury campsite with yurts and bell tents and we are just coming to the end of our opening season. Now that we have the business up and running we are looking for help with getting the next few projects up and running. This is mainly a case of getting the farm into working order and creating a truly self-sufficient smallholding.

Over the next 5 months projects include,
building and landscaping a market garden with greenhouse and polytunnel
Fencing works around the farm to make it all livestock proof
Looking after the pigs and other animals
A number of woodwork projects including field shelters and stores
Tree planting in a number of areas
Woodland management and some coppicing.
I hope some of those sound of interest.

We have a... more inside

This is a 17.5 h working broadleaf woodland, managed for the long term benefit of all its non-human inhabitants. We produce firewood, sawn timber, charcoal, coppiced hazel, yurt poles and simple carpentry made out of sawn timber.

It has a spacious furnished cabin heated by a Rayburn and a Jotul. There is a kitchen, filtered rainwater, an outside heated bath and a composting toilet. Food would be supplied to be cooked on the Rayburn and and two gas rings. Food will be supplied for cooking on site.

We need people to help us move timber, wood and brash, to plant saplings and to help in the sawmill. You will begin to learn the arts of coppicing and eco-forestry by actually doing it.

Two cottages under renovation on the West Coast of Scotland. We will eventually let the cottages, have some camping and some cabins to let, but from January 2014 we need general help to complete eco-building works such as stud walling and lime plastering, insulation, etc. We can provide a warm room, breakfast and evening meals, conversation and an insight into this amazing Scottish landscape in exchange for 1-2 months building work, landscaping and gardening preparation. References or recommendations would ideally be required.
Pete works some of the week away in Fort William where he leads a tourism research programme specialising in eco- and adventure tourism. Jo works part-time for the School of Adventure Studies, and full-time as house restorer. The village of Arisaig has live music in the pub most weeks.

On this working organic farm, established in 1997, you will find chickens, ducks, geese, Ruby Red Cattle, dogs, cats and bees. There is a productive vegetable garden, orchard, woodland, hedgerows and a wild flower meadow bordering onto Culm grassland.

All the produce from this farm is sold direct at Farmer's Markets and the preparation is done on the farm too. Plenty to do!

There are always projects on the go from helping with animals, in the garden and fields or various building and maintenance tasks.

Accommodation will be in a twin bedroom in the farmhouse, and you will be treated as one of the family. The North Cornish coast is 10 miles away and Dartmoor 20 miles, all on a bus route.

We prefer one or two helpers who can stay a minimum of two weeks or longer and are happy to muck in and muck out wherever needed.

My home, Ty Cae Rydar, is a farmhouse set in rolling farmlands of the Usk valley in South East Wales. It was built as a barn in the 1800ís and was converted to a farmhouse in the 1880ís. It is surrounded by 2 acres of land, filled with trees and shrubs. Iíve had it for 20 years and I need some help with maintenance and upkeep since Iím now working away from home.

Important : There is no close public transport, so a helper would need either to have his/her own transport, or to be happy to be about an hourís walk from the nearest shop for 5 days at a time. Iím usually there at the weekends, but I work away during the week, so a helper would be on their own Monday to Friday. The house is not isolated, as there are 5-6 neighbours within a half-mile.

Also, at the moment, there's no internet connection, only a landline !!

The nearest village is Raglan (as in Lord Raglan and the Charge of the Light Brigade) and the nearest town is Monmouth (as in Monmouth Harry), a charming marke... more inside

The Old Hall was originally built in about 1650 and a third storey added in about 1800.
The house has some attractive features but needs much tender loving restoration to bring it back to its former beauty.

There are stables (used for storage and one is a gym) and a large garden, paddock, a range of outbuildings, animal pen and an orchard & pond area.

Bedrooms have king size, double or single beds. Baths and showers. Kitchen. Dining Hall. Lounges.

We would especially like to host fabulous joiners, roofers, plasterers, plumbers, electricians, bricklayers, stonemasons, architects, structural engineers (or helpers with any experience of these).

Also at the moment, we would invite people with house keeping, vegetable gardening or landscaping experience and general grafters who have some experience of DIY. We are currently looking to host during January & February 2014.
