Are you free to help us in May?

For the past four years since we retired we have been developing an existing garden and creating a new productive garden in what was a pony paddock in our lovely Shropshire setting just South of Shrewsbury. We are now more or less self sufficient in fruit and vegetables, at least during the summer months, and we keep a few chickens for eggs.

The more we develop the garden the more maintenance there is – and at the same time we have quite a lot of family commitments, some close to home – others further afield. May is one of our busiest months in the garden, but this year we have to be away for three short periods during the month – the longest being a week. So we would REALLY love it if there was someone – perhaps a couple? – out there who would be happy to look after our home and garden and look after the chickens while we are away in exchange for somewhere to stay. During the times we are home obviously you could join us in working in the... more inside

We are looking for friendly and outgoing helpers to exchange your help for food and accommodation. We want you to feel like part of the family, be polite, make cheerful conversation and have fun.

Maralyn has multiple sclerosis and sadly is now in a wheelchair unable to eat or move by herself. Sam is her carer who lives with us as part of the family and she is supported by other carers who visit twice a day. Our son Adam lives in Cambridge and runs the family Patent Attorney business. He usually comes to our house twice a week to work in a small office in our garden.

We would be grateful for help with cooking, decorating, roofing, gardening, housework, horse care, DIY, hedge cutting, brick laying, wood chopping etc..

We have a green house and a vegetable patch and one retired horse. 6 acres of our land are used for our horses and we have 4 acres of land which we would like to develop for an interesting use eg food forest, woodland, etc.. Any suggestions are welcome.

We are based in a Grade II* Romantic Gothic mansion located just south of the English Lake District. It is situated in 70 acres of woodland and gardens on the shores of Morecambe Bay. It provides a quiet and reflective environment for a meaningful break.

The help required is varied and might include cooking, helping in the garden, household, doing office tasks, decorating etc. We also have various building projects at present that you could get involved in. We are always interested to hear about any specific skills you may be able to offer. Although the work is not always strenuous you will need to be reasonably fit and active to come on a volunteering visit.

In the Kadampa Art Studio there is scope to volunteer in the Finishing Team, assisting with sanding and filling etc. of Statues and Temple Adornments bound for destinations around the world. Short and longterm voluntary visits are available.

The week is generally Monday to Friday but some Weekends are required. 2 days... more inside

Pentiddy is a family run Permaculture and woodland project on a 27 acre holding- consisting of a small flock of sheep, a few ducks and lots and lots of trees including a small orchard.
We have built our own cruck framed straw bale house, with a new natural swimming pond and we also run a natural burial site.

Approx. 13 acres is existing woodland and most of the remainder is new planting of coppice, much with public access.

Living is blissfully basic, all off-grid- dry composting toilet, rainwater harvesting, solar/wind power systems, limited wi-fi internet available. No TV.

Help required in the woods, garden (i.e polytunnel/food production) completion of straw bale house and other day-to-day tasks such as chopping firewood, cooking etc.

Some of our other interests are green woodworking, breadmaking, homebrewing, bushcraft, charcoal burning, music and basketry.

This is a creative family environment- there is always constant conversation with our two home educated chil... more inside

Ben and Larry live the good life - or at least we try to!

Our farm is our home, work and life and every aspect of our numerous activities go towards making a life, not just a living.

Ours is a working farm and we aim to use traditional methods alongside modern techniques. We endeavour to take the best of the past and combine it with the best of the future. Our objective being to create a low environmental impact and respect for our surroundings, we think of it as ‘Heritage In The Making’.

We grow the majority of our own food and try to eat in tune with the seasons with home produced feasts for celebrations but all meals are special for us and provide an opportunity for regular gatherings.

We have two kitchen gardens, a herb garden and a poly-tunnel as well as our new venture of a market garden plot. From this, we can enjoy on our own vegetable produce almost all year round. We forage and gather in the hedge rows and preserve the seasonal abundance for the leaner month... more inside

We are Jill and Phil, we have a large property of converted and semi converted barns, we are gradually upgrading the property to provide tourist accommodation. Currently we have two B&B rooms and 3 holiday cottages. We also have a large garden-flowers and vegetables, a fair sized pond and woodland. We have a few chickens who roam freely around the garden and two adorable guinea pigs.

We need help from July 24th 2020 with all aspects of the above, priorities determined by current projects and the time of the year. We will also try to make good use of any specific skills offered as well as teaching new ones. We ask 5 hours work a day, five days a week - or the equivalent worked flexibly (4 week minimum stay). In return we offer good food and accommodation - private bedroom and shower room, all other areas are shared with us. We can also provide a bike for local investigation and lifts to nearby Acle for a bus or train to Norwich for example. Our helpers will often take a day or two... more inside

We have two needs

Temporary- May to August to cover staff holidays in the cheeserooms when milk is plentiful and we need to lay down stores for the winter. We prefer volunteers with previous experience of a high hygiene environment

permanently- we need and electrical or mechanical engineer to maintain our anaerobic digestor and develop our emission management plant.

We are a family farm, with a dairy herd of Brown Swiss cows on a New Zealand paddock grazing system.
We grow as much of the cattle feed as possible. We also have an anaerobic digester 180KWh
Our outputs are cheese and electricity. We are not organic, but have received many awards for education and sustainable farming/green energy/environmental issues.
We have hosted several people through other schemes, veterinary students, cheesemakers, people interested in anaerobic digestion, we are Warmshowers hosts.
We are particularly interested in helpers who are able to help in the cheeserooms making cheese... more inside

A unique and quirky garden which has been open in the national Garden Scheme for over 30 years. Mill Barn is a series of delights. Along the R Darwin, in Lancashire, through the tiny secret grotto, past the suspension bridge and view of the fairy-tale tower, visitors can a stroll past folly, sculptures, lily pond, and lawns, enjoy the naturally planted flowerbeds, then enter the secret garden and through it the pathways of the wooded hillside beyond.

Your hostess is, a retired social worker, whose husband, a retired lecturer, is the gardener and a member of the National Garden Scheme. The garden is open on two weekends in June 13,14,20,21 when 300 to 400 people visit. 6 volunteers attend on each day to support the four openings.

I would appreciate the help of an assistant event organiser for two weeks from June 9 to June 23nd 2020. This is an annual event. I have accepted an application for this year 2020.

The role involves, before the events getting to know how the... more inside
