***UPDATE - we have room from now until 28th May for 1 or 2 people***

A big old stone town house in a pretty little market town on the banks of the Dordogne river, at the heart of the Bordeaux wine region. Just up the road from Saint Emilion, easy train access to Bordeaux and the Atlantic coast.
The house is beautiful and huge and we love it most when it's lively and full with lots of people at the table.
We have 4 big bedrooms, so 2 couples can be easily accommodated in separate rooms. All of these rooms finally have bathrooms!
We the owners are Kate 48 (English) and Fabian 47 (half English half French). We tend to speak French to each other but we are both bilingual. Kate is a restauranteur, and Fabian is a wine journalist (yes, your liver may suffer!) / musician / DIY man. Our restaurant is 3km away from the house on the banks of the river (latablerouge.com). The restaurant is closed in the winter, so all the cooking gets done at home.

Life here tends to focus around f... more inside

We are Enid and Kevin, a very active couple in our 60s. We are British but have lived here in SW France for 13 years. We have restored an 18th century farmhouse on a hectare of land. We are establishing a permaculture garden and taming the land which has been left idle for many years. We have chickens and two dogs. This is our second property in this village. We sold the last one after 10 years running holiday cottages and had lots of helpxers working with us on that project (no reviews I'm afraid as we have a new e mail so had to create a new account.) We need someone to help with cutting bamboo, fencing in the veg plot and the chicken area, building compost bins and general garden work. You would work 4/5 hours per day for 5 days and then have 2 days off. Work is mainly mornings but some time in the afternoon too - we like to take a long lunch (we're a bit French that way!)! You would have indoor accommodation - we have a twin room or a double room and you would have your own bat... more inside

Beautiful chateau situated in the cote de Blaye vineyards, close to St Emillion and Bordeaux. We are an English family that consists of mother, daughter and 4 children so if you want to learn
French we are possibly not for you. Our project which we are just about to start is a serious building renovation-garden project and we would really like a person or a couple who can just get stuck in and work hard along with us and do whatever is needed that day. Although we work hard we also like to play hard. Happy to have you for a few weeks or more. We will give you your own room and food.

We are an open-minded Dutch couple(in our fifties) who, in 2007 bought a campsite in France. We sold everything in Holland to start a new life, away from the traffic, rules, noise and the rat race.

We need extra hands during the months January, February, March and April helping us with different kind of work like: landscaping, weeding, painting, carpentry -work, clearing out the wood etc, etc. We offer a good place to stay, meals and drinks, a fantastic atmosphere and a good environment. If you are interested we hope to hear from you soon.

During the high season, May, June, July and August we are looking for people to do all kinds of work, i.e bar, restaurant, swimming pool, sanitary, terrain, etc. Our campsite is special because it is for motor-bikers only and has a relaxed, rock and roll atmosphere to it. During the season we often have rock concerts on site. We offer a good place to stay, meals and drinks and a fantastic atmosphere and a good environment to meat new peopl... more inside

We live in a huge old stone barn set in a hectare of land in a tiny hamlet near La Tour Blanche, northern Dordogne. It serves as our home, timber-framing workshop, organic kitchen garden... and a very big building project!

We arrived from England in 2011. After a few years of knocking the place into some shape, things are more comfortable here and we can now welcome guests in late spring, summer and early autumn.

Louis is a green oak timber-framer by trade. His next big project is a frame for an eco-build house with straw-bale walls. Aside from jobs, Louis has been busy building the first floor structures inside the barn, the veranda and, last but certainly not least - your accommodation!

You will stay in a green oak timber-framed, one-room chalet with a splendid view of the rolling hills.

We have never had HelpX guests before so we can work out what feels best for everyone before you arrive, but here are some thoughts about how we see it working:
