My home, Ty Cae Rydar, is a farmhouse set in rolling farmlands of the Usk valley in South East Wales. It was built as a barn in the 1800ís and was converted to a farmhouse in the 1880ís. It is surrounded by 2 acres of land, filled with trees and shrubs. Iíve had it for 20 years and I need some help with maintenance and upkeep since Iím now working away from home.

Important : There is no close public transport, so a helper would need either to have his/her own transport, or to be happy to be about an hourís walk from the nearest shop for 5 days at a time. Iím usually there at the weekends, but I work away during the week, so a helper would be on their own Monday to Friday. The house is not isolated, as there are 5-6 neighbours within a half-mile.

Also, at the moment, there's no internet connection, only a landline !!

The nearest village is Raglan (as in Lord Raglan and the Charge of the Light Brigade) and the nearest town is Monmouth (as in Monmouth Harry), a charming marke... more inside

Hi I'm new to this, so here goes. Just viewing some of the host reviews HelpX looks like a brilliant idea and 'win win' situation for all concerned including a rewarding cultural experience. I have actually hosted foreign students in the past with no expectation of work! I am a people person and see value and amazing potential in every unique human being placed on God's earth. I can cook most things and accommodate most tastes, but am willing to let you loose in the kitchen if that is your thing.
I am taking short/long term bookings for volunteers on a building project in North Wales leading up to November/December 2013 and beyond. I can accommodate sooner than later with good references~to help on an exciting new project including wood work, mosaics, painting, glazing, restoring Georgian windows, stone work/ brickwork and general cleaning brushing up. I am doing up an old stone built end terrace property(Circa 1830's)with original old fires and well around the back, currently one... more inside

We are in North Wales, near Llanrhaeder with its waterfall. With three acres of woodland, rambling cottage gardens, orchard, soft fruit and vegetables in a tranquil dramatic and secluded setting.
we have a 1 acre organic vegetables and fruit area, mainly in raised beds. The ornamental garden is being restored. The renovation of the house is almost complete, offering warm comfortable and hospitable accommodation with good food and conversation.
We work part time from home, need help with every aspect from planting and pruning to landscaping and possibly DIY.
We try to live sustainably and in harmony with the land.
Terracing raised beds and composting are major projects: as is the restoration of soft fruit and orchard. Water harvesting/wildlife will involve pond making. The woodlands need work: thinning and creation of coppice for heating and raw material for structural/garden timber needs. The ornamental garden need more infastructure work as well as flower and shrub care.... more inside

We are a young couple with two small children who are busy renovating and reclaiming 9 acres of derelict land. We have four acres of growing land where we have planted an orchard, a 25 metre polytunnel and large outdoor growing space. We are renovating old MOD buildings on the yard into workshops and painting studios where we will run art courses, as I am a painter and art teacher. The land is situated on the marsh in a stunning location that looks out to sea. We are looking for help with manual work whether it be gardening work, maintenance or more practical work on renovating the buildings. We have lots of people come and stay with us, so we are used to feeding and looking after people! Thank you

We are a large house and 15 acres living here as an extended family.
My husband is disabled; he had a stroke 4 years ago and needs someone around the house most of the time.
I need a person, who is happy to keep an eye on John, sort of take care of the house a little on a regular basis, help out with a holiday flat and do a little in the garden.
Check out our website. We're in the heart of kite country, right on the foothills of the Cambrian mountains.

I live in a converted chapel, and will be extending it by adding an extra floor. The helpers will be assisting me in finishing the conversion,ie extending by adding a floor and various jobs to the existing conversion. It would be useful if they have basic building skills, but these can be taught. What is more essential is a willingness to learn the various skills necessary, and a willingness to try anything. The accommodation is individual bedrooms with bathroom, and there can be communal meals, or helpers can prepare their own meals.

The chapel is in an hill village called Bryn 12 miles from the seaside city of Swansea, with shops and night lift, and the beautiful Gower peninsula with its beaches, including water sport facilities (especially surfing). Swansea is also a springboard to Ireland. Near Bryn, there is a country park with a world class mountain bike route (bicycles available to borrow). It is on a bus route to Swansea, although there will be plenty of opportunities... more inside

This is a 16th century farmhouse, now a private residence with biggish garden, set in beautiful countryside.
In the early 70s when I first came here, it was a ruin. I've restored it as best I could to its original condition + added modern amenities.
Anyone who seriously wants to learn a bit about conservation building, old-style slating, the use of lime rather than cement, appropriate repairs to old buildings, is very welcome to stay for a while.
I can also advise on good walks round here. The Mawddach estuary, one of the most beautiful in Europe, is only 1/2 an hour away. Add 20 minutes to get to the beach.
It rains quite a lot here. But, when the sun shines, it's paradise.
