The property is a large traditional stone house in the middle of the village of Belesta, which has a small range of shops, bars and restaurants and is in the foothills of the Pyrenees, 30 minutes from a family ski field and surrounded by great local mountain walks and adventure parks.

I would like some general help in the garden and the house: painting and decorating, weeding and digging etc. The walled garden runs down to the river, which also forms part of the property. The river bank needs some restoration and there is a considerable amount of interior decoration and restoration yet to be completed.

I am planning to set up a centre for people to come and stay alongside enjoying the added overall offer of arts and outdoor activities, however, I have a lot of work to do before the property will be fully presentible. The house is arranged over four floors and the accommodation is warm and comfortable with ensuit bathrooms. Helpx visitors and the like are provided with warm ... more inside

JANUARY 2012 UPDATE -------

I (Franois-Xavier, 38) am on my own on the farm right now and due to my own business schedule slightly overwhelmed with daily chores. These include:

feeding a small number of chickens and rabbits. (and clean their mess, though this is probably a once-only task for the duration of your stay here) This is the only chore which is truly vital and requires regularity.
remove ivy from tree trunks. (there are several hundreds of apple trees here, though of course not all are infested)
prune fruit trees (apple and pear) and bushes (redcurrant, blackcurrant). Some heavy pruning is required for most apple trees, it seems.

I am therefore looking for a helper to stay with me for the whole month of January. (provided we both get on after the initial 5-day trial period)

What I expect from you:

I am a pretty hard worker in my own field so I expect you to have a fair amount of work ethic. Im not insensitive to hippism and antimaterialistic counterc... more inside

Looking to host some one or a couple in Fall and Winter until end of April !!!! Please dont mail if you want to stay for 2-6 months. We will only take 2-3 weeks stays to begin with and if it clicks we can perhaps extend it! Carpentry and building skills mostly needed.

We, Charles (USA) and Caroline (NL) have moved to South West France in 2005 with our daughter, Miya(now 14) for a better quality of life. Our businesses are located in a beautifully restored old farm house in Gascogne style (wooden beams with chaux). Caroline runs the Bed & Breakfast and self catering apartment and Charles has an acupuncture practice. He gives workshops in Tai-Chi Chuan and Zen Shiatsu. Most of the guests are from England, Holland or Belgium and some from France.
In February-April and as of end of October we usually continue renovating and upgrading this 12-16th century house and garden! We can use helpers with specific skills like carpentry, painting, making a kitchenette!

*** We are currently look for help during March and April. Current projects are painting and decorating, cutting hedges, field fencing, gardening and rotorvating.

Our farm is in the hamlet of Les Brissonnires on the edge of the pretty village of Le Breuil sous Argenton. This is set in the Pay Thouarsais in North Deux Sevres, a countryside that boasts rolling hills lined with endless vineyards, fields of sun flowers and corn, pastures of cattle and sheep and the picturesque valleys of the Argenton and Ouere rivers. It is on the edge of the Loire Valley, famous for its wines and a short drive from Atlantic coast fishing villages and holiday towns.

We raise alpacas to sell on to other owners and to process the fleece for selling the yarn or clothing. We also provide various services to other breeders.

On the farm we have large cottage gardens for growing vegetables and fruit and numerous pastures for our Alpacas. We are adopting an agricultural permaculture to maintain our ... more inside

We are not looking for help at the moment, thanks for looking;

Hi,
We live in rural Poitou Charente in a small hamlet. We have 3 boys Harry 11, Hayden 7 and George 6.
We are English but all of us speak French and the boys go to a French school. Life is rather busy as I split my time between the family and running the house and of course, the animals. Also, I run a small dog sitting and grooming business.

We have 7 horses and a foal that was born on 31 May,we ride and ride/drive the 2 ponies, We have 5 goats 3 females that i milk but am waiting for them to kid so not milking at the moment, lots of chickens so lots of beautiful fresh eggs and 3 pigs, as well as the dogs and cats.

We are renovating our house and raising the roof by 1m. We have completed one side but are going to start the other side this summer, any help with this would be fantastic, blockwork, roofing then when thats completed, stud walling, plumbing, plastereing etc inside.

Help with cutting woo... more inside
