Our quiet, secluded, 12 acre smallholding is home to our herd of 18 Alpaca, 8 Sheep, 7 Geese, 10 Ducks, ~40 Chickens and a couple of pigs (in the summer). Located alongside the river Chew it also has a small orchard and walled vegetable garden.

The 14th Century Farmhouse is a delightful home to Sarah, Chris and our young daughter Penny, and of course our Black Labrador and kitten - but also an ongoing renovation project. The accommodation for Helpers is a twin-bedded bedroom; so will accommodate up to two who are happy to share. The bathroom and all other amenities are shared with the family. Laundry and WiFi are free for Helpers' use. It is our preference for Helpers to eat with the family. Should you want a little more privacy, we do have a caravan available (for the summer months).

As hosts, we would welcome volunteers with any of the following interests: conservation; gardening; animal husbandry; hedge maintenance; land management; DIY (to name but a few...)

Join us at our magical Tudor house, in the beautiful countryside of East Sussex.

Hi, we are Nicky and Rob and we live in a small village called Northiam, near the historical cinque-port towns of Rye and Tenterden, surrounded by numerous Castles and gardens. We moved into our 400 year- old house in 2017 and have slowly been making it our own. We would love you to come and share our unique space for a few weeks, helping us continue to make our home and gardens special. The landscaping was helped and inspired by a famous horticulturist called Christopher Lloyd and needs some love and care to be restored to it's original beauty. Rob and I have travelled all over the world and love meeting new people, exchanging stories and experiences with open minded friendly helpers in our beautiful relaxed home. We have grown up children and grandchildren who have all flown the nest. Nicky comes from an art background and is passionate about interior design - so we have a rather quirky home!

This is an intentional community of about 40 people (adults and children) living in separate self-contained units within a Georgian manor house, stable block and cottages on 40 acres of land. We work the farm co-operatively with the aim of producing a substantial part of our food including meat, milk, eggs, fruit and vegetables.

Land includes 20 acres of pasture, 8 acres arable, 2 acre walled vegetable garden, a large Victorian greenhouse and polytunnels, an orchard, a small area of woodland and a lake and garden. We have dairy cows, goats and sheep as well as hens, bees and, sometimes, pigs. You may be working on just about any job on the farm: with the animals, gardening or on the grounds and buildings.

We generally host up to 3 volunteers for a fortnight at a time for general helping out about the farm and estate.

Accommodation is in shared rooms (sometimes private) with adjacent toilet and shower room. There is a large communal kitchen nearby for preparing meals and... more inside

This hillside farm property has been in the family since 1904. For the majority of this time the farm was a traditional dairy farm reliant on petrochemical fertilisers, feed supplements and red diesel. In August 2006 I (Ian) returned from working abroad to start a new business on the farm to prove small scale agriculture can be environmentally aware, promote biodiversity and remain viable in a difficult and competitive market such as food production.

Today:
Operates an on farm butchery and bakery
Is an employer both on the farm outside Oswestry, Shropshire where we look after the land, care for animals, run courses and make pies
Is a real working farm with free range animals

The proceeds from these activities are re-invested by a Community Interest Company providing horticultural therapy projects for a wide range of local people. Engaged with local health authorities and local and regional HE colleges, the farm predominantly provides these projects to young adults... more inside
