Hello, my name is Ricardo and I began this Sea Turtle Conservation Project almost 20 years ago in the Rio Claro Wildlife Refuge in the Osa Pensinsula, Costa Rica. Our not for profit project protects thousands of Sea Turtle eggs along our coastline every year and ensures that the newly hatched babies make it to the sea. I am looking for help to keep the project running successfully. I came to this place 45 years ago to surf with a friend in a time when there was absolutely nothing but nature and a few farmers. A worked for a Biological Station where I learned with some biologists to be a naturalist ... 20 years ago I felt motivated by the conservation of sea turtles since I found an exaggerated depredation towards this species from human poaching and animal hunting.
Our project is amongst jungle on the beach in the middle of nature and is secluded from the busy touristic areas. Our project is in a remote part of the Osa Peninsular only reachable by boat or quad. It is truly a n... more inside

Our finca is a 15 hectare mixed-use farm in the low mountains on the western edge of the Central Plateau. Most of the farm is habitat, with small areas of organic crops...corn, beans, fruits, coffee...and a main house with 3 smaller rental houses. The smaller houses are usually rented to couples escaping the Frozen North and graduate students and staff at the nearby University for Peace. There's lots of birding, monkeys all over the place. Tropical stuff.

We're looking for someone(s) to help with some maintenance and cleaning of the houses before we travel in mid-February. Our dates are January 12 to January 27, somewhat flexible (1-2 days) on each end.

The work is some cleaning of the houses and general minor repairs (screen-fixing, sanding and oiling of some wood, e.g.) as the finca is listed for sale. Nothing too arduous, but trouble-shooting on the finca is feast or famine.

Housing is usually a small furnished casita. It's ideal for a couple; not a party... more inside

Animal Rescue and Sanctuary and Organic Vegan Farm in Central Costa Rica

Hello everyone! Take note: we are currently at capacity for helpers until April 2020.

What we do: We take care of animals, we grow organic food, we prepare and eat tasty vegan meals, we minimize our impact on the earth, and we enjoy the company of our Costa Rican friends and neighbors. We have run a volunteer program for over 9 years, and have had several hundred people come to work with us!

Our farm is primarily an animal rescue, rehab and sanctuary. Our doors are open to animals in need. We currently have many rescue dogs, a goat, two pigs, a horse and three cats. Some came off the streets, some were abandoned, others were injured and no longer wanted. We adopt out what we can, but most are “lifers” on the farm.

The property (roughly 3.5 hectares) is covered with many tropical fruit trees, including water apple, mandarin orange, banana (many varieties), guayaba, guanabana, cas, ciamito, lime, c... more inside

For many years we had been a family farm with organic gardens (raising, greens, root crops, herbs, etc.), animals (dairy cow and her baby, horses, rabbits and ducks)and lots of wild areas. Currently looking for volunteers to help with organic gardening, light construction projects, trail improvement and maintenance and various creative projects (photography, artwork, landscape beautification, and other projects. opportunities also exist for work with horses as well as natural building work. Easten neighbor to farm is Cloudbridge reforestation project with many trails to explore, Northern frontage of farm is Chirripo river with incredible old growth forest on opposite side of river and to the west of the farm down the hill about 1km is the village of San Gerardo, The farm is close to the end of the road so rather remote. Not a party place but nice place to come for individuals, couples or families who enjoy peace, quite and natures bounty.
