We are looking for a male cleaner (for male dorm) in warm sunny Northland to help with 2 hours of cleaning per day to start as soon as possible. Minimum stay 6 weeks or more, and one day off per week. Working holiday visa required. The wages you earn, equates to the amount paid for accommodation in a share dorm with 8GB wifi per week and free washing. Morning tea and biscuits after cleaning. We are a small character hostel with two large lounges, log fire and a balcony with seaviews. We are located 70m from the beach and 5 minutes walk from the centre of Paihia. We've lived overseas for many years, including time in South America, Asia and the Middle East, and returned six years ago to start our 'off grid adventure'. Having 'internationalized' it's been time to put some roots down (literally) in a sustainable, creative and co-evolutionary way. These days we're a family of four (kids aged 3 and 6) and a friendly dog. We speak some Spanish and a little Japanese and would receive foreigners eagerly (also fellow NZers of course). We're one hour's drive from the nearest towns (Kaitaia and Kerikeri) although a small organic co-op is twenty-five minutes away. Neighbours include a Bee-Keeper and his family, artists, potters and homesteaders, some of whom are open to receiving helpers who may wish to spend more time in the area.
People wishing to learn about setting up off-grid so that they can do so themselves would be able to pick up valuable skills at our place. Because we are still building our home, accommodation and facilities are limited. H... more inside

We're a family of four living on a beautiful property with stunning views overlooking Whangaroa Harbour in the Far North of New Zealand. We have a small and simple off-grid set up, and live surrounded by native bush.

We are building an earth and straw bale roundhouse this year, so have plenty of work that needs to be done! It will be made from mainly natural, local materials as well as salvaged and recycled items. As of November 2019 we have completed the basic frame and reciprocal roof for the roundhouse, and we now need help in the next stage of the build. This is a great opportunity for anyone wishing to learn about natural building!

In return for 4 hours work per person per day, we'll provide a room with FANTASTIC views, along with 3 meals a day of great home cooked vegetarian food, including fresh organic eggs from our own chickens and veggies from the garden. You're welcome to cook your own non-veggie food in our kitchen if you wish. We also have Wifi.

If you stay wit... more inside

Homestay offered for 1 person or a couple. Sharing a brand new home which the owners (builder) Craig and Jane have just finished building. In addition there is one friendly Labrador and a few chickens. At the other end of the property live daughter Gemma and son in law with their dog and a cat. The gardens were beautiful but are now a little unruly. We would love some help with gardening and odd jobs in return for meals and accommodation. A car would be necessary to be able to take advantage of the area. Based in Waimate North which is a very historical area, fifteen minutes from Kerikeri and 20 minutes from Paihia and Waitangi you will have plenty to explore. Lots of beautiful places to hike and lots of water activities. We all enjoy good food and sharing experiences.
We love to welcome visitors and have hosted many homestays in the past.
