I am a potter, my studio has gas and wood fired kilns and a small gallery out the front.
We like hosting independent, practical, creative types who immerse into the lifestyle on the Barrier.
The type of work depends on what projects are going on at the time.... gardening, potting, building, cleaning, firewood etc I like to tap into peoples strengths and interests to determine what sort of thing suits them best.

Volunteering and Internships!

We have a couple of vacancies for a volunteer starting around the 26th March 2018:(4 week minimum Stay)

We run a small scale intensive market garden, nursery and orchard on Great Barrier Island, operating according to organic/biological principles.

We grow a very wide range of high quality produce including fruit, vegetables and herbs. 95% of our produce stays here. Truly local food. Our small but busy nursery grows a wide range of seedlings for local gardeners.

Our produce is available at a weekly Saturday market at Stonewall Village in Tryphena, and via a fruit/vege box service for locals and visitors almost year round. We also supply local cafes and restaurants.

There is no mains power out here so we rely on solar panels, batteries and a generator. We have no TV but we do have WiFi Internet, and lots of board games. Volunteers need to be self sufficient and able to entertain themselves, preferably in the great outdoors or read... more inside

WE have a small lifestyle block close to the beach at Tryphena on Great Barrier Island, with beautiful gardens. Need some help to keep them beautiful as we are both live busy lives and they are missing us. Lots of chooks and a large vege garden. There's a cottage near the house needing some painting too. Our house is 4 bedroom so plenty of room. Half day work for food and board.

Our property wants someone long term (3-6 mo) that appreciates a rural life, knows a little bit about machinery, garden, orchard and yard maintenance or is interested in learning. We have developed orchards and gardens which need attention. In return we will provide a private cottage alongside a bush-clad stream and 1 min walk to beach. We often can share produce but do not offer meals, although we can at times return with supplies from Auckland. Keep in mind GBI does not have reticulated power. Anyone here will learn how to manage other systems. We,d like the weekly work to be based on a job completion rather than a specific number of work hours. This will be negotiated, of course, but perhaps, work 15 hr a week.

Gt. Barrier Is. has a vehicle/passenger ferry from Auckland to Tryphena 3 times a week and 30 min. flights from Auckland airport several times a day. We can usually meet the ferry and sometimes the flights. There are taxi buses from both Claris airport and wharf. ... more inside

We are a couple, living in a house on top of a cliff on Great Barrier Island. We run 4 businesses between us, and we love spending time surfing as well. That's why we often don't spend enough time around the house, doing gardening, washing windows, scrubbing decks, etc. And that's where you come in. We would love some help with with getting/keeping our garden in order, and our place looking ship shape. So there's weeding, mulching, scrubbing decks and washing windows and house cleaning to be done.

We are easy going, but will be expecting 4 hours of help a day in the morning. You can also do an 8 hour day and have a whole day off, or do 2 six hour days and have a day off, and apart from helping with the meals, your day of arrival and day of departure are off, too. In exchange you'll have a wonderful room with it's own bathroom and sea views, extensive decks and a swimming pool. We will provide food, but expect you to take turns with the cooking/dishes and cannot cater for special ... more inside

We live at the Northern end of Great Barrier Island. Boat access and walk in only available. We have a large terraced hillside covered in permaculture garden and orchard. We need assistance building rock retaining walls, chipping, general landscaping, and gardening. In return we offer waterfront living, with kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, walking, in a remote and beautiful part of N.Z. Ideally suited for two people, as can be quite isolating. Accessibility to get here from Auckland City, would be at your expense, the sealink barge does frequent trips across the gulf, and their are also planes that land on island. We would pick you up upon arrival. There is no reticulated power on the island, and we believe in living pretty simply - albeit with solar power and eating from our plentiful gardens.

I have a small house where I live near the sea with my young boxer dog. There is loads of jobs needing doing both inside and out. Gardening, firewood, window cleaning, spouting cleaning. To name a few. You can google Medlands beach if you want an idea of the situation. I have a spare bedroom but otherwise it is shared close quarter living. The dog too! The beach is a 5 min walk away. The area is rural and backs on to natural bush...

I have called my beautiful beach-front property on this pristine Pacific surf beach my Paradise Island home for the last 29 yrs. I am now finally realizing my dream and have built a small private B&B home-stay healing retreat here. I have a large comfortable double guest room in the main house & 1 garden chalet and sleepout providing separate self-contained accommodation.I am currently developing organic vegetable and beach gardens & am requiring experienced &/or willing handymen/women, cleaners & gardeners for odd jobs, ongoing maintenance & general help on this stunning sun-filled property. Also I would really appreciate help with sorting out my business and marketing strategies on Fb and continue to develop my websites etc. so any creative design/photography/computer/techno skills are also very welcome (& if you can teach me how to do more of this myself SIMPLY that's even better!). Special diets catered for if necessary (gluten/dairy free etc).

Great Barrier Island is a 30 min flight or 5 hour barge from Auckland. It's a very special place, if you want to see NZ it's a must! I am looking for a person to look after my two gorgeous (most of the time) children at times during the day and evening when I am working from home. They are 8and 4. We live on a large lifestyle block with lots of daily chores, collecting firewood, gardening and general cleaning. We are pretty remote with no shops nearby (nearest is 30 mins by car) but there is an awesome, friendly, community and the views are spectacular! Being able to drive and being comfortable in nature is essential. If you are happy to be involved with pest control I'd be stoked!!

You have a room in the house with double bed, but there are many spots on the property for quiet contemplation. We have free unlimited WIFI and cell coverage is 5 mins drive away.

We have a small native tree nursery which requires constant potting on etc. We also have other part time work so things like household jobs, gardening etc get on top of us! Our family owns the local general store so could require some help unloading barges, pricing stock etc. Would suit a couple, keen surfers, fishermen :)
