Explore our special part of the West Coast while you help us out in our 24 unit motel. Fox Glacier is a beautiful area, with mountains, temperate rain forest and our stunning Lake Matheson, as well as the glacier, which is just 5km from our friendly little town.
We ask for 3 hours help each day with the housekeeping work or sometimes yard work. In return we'll supply you with a room in our fully furnished staff house. You’ll have you own room and there is a large kitchen, dining and lounge area to share with our staff. We don’t provide food, but all the cooking utensils, etc, are there for you to use.
The work usually starts in the morning at 9am, so by afternoon you are free to explore the area.
We're looking for helpers for the rest of November and December.
We are passionate about our country and love sharing it with travellers - we`ve roamed the country for 6 years in our motorhome so can suggest lots of lovely places for you to visit.

I live on a 40 hectare property between Greymouth and Hokitika (most of which is native forest) with a view of the Taramakau river. The land and house need ongoing maintenance including gardening, gathering firewood, window cleaning, painting, and clearing tracks.
I also have some sheep, and occasionally need help with managing them.
My preference is someone (or couple)who has been raised in the countryside, is strong, and capable with machinery. An international drivers licence would be a bonus. I like people who work hard, and are capable of doing so without supervision. At the moment I am clearing firewood from along a road through our forest, and working around my garden area and tunnelhouse...
I may need help with some cooking from time to time. My children are grown up, and not living at home...

In return for 4 hours work for every night you stay, I look after you well. The food is good wholesome farm cooking. (Please note that I do not cater for vegetarian/vegan die... more inside

I offer accommodation (Tom's Hut) or Trappers Rest a Bedford Bus, room for a couple, that are younger and fit enough to help a old man clear gorse from the Historic Sites on his property and the feeding out in the evening of his stock. If you like nature you have found it. Time out to write a book, paint or into music, all without interruption. Cycle the West Coast Wilderness Trail or drive to town when ever you want.

Just a peaceful place that needs some t.l.c. every once and a while, like gardening, creating and cleaning, depending on the weather. Were a couple, with a 19 year old, and we love to hear about what's happening in the world, from different perspectives.. Were not traveling at present, so this is the next best thing.... having someone in our home, helping, sharing and learning. . ..
I love dancing, music, and arts which is included in our home environment. Riding motor bikes, or a little game of table tennis, creating trails, riding on the bicycle trails, hiking, & watching sun sets. Never boring around here for me, I am in the process of becoming more self sufficient, planted 20 trees. Creating new gardens, wanting to create a medicinal garden this year.
The more alive our food is the better, for all of us ~_0
If you would like to help me learn about life, I would like to hear from you.
My husband is a local, born and bread, along with his father, and grandfather, and gr... more inside

We grow feijoa, tamarillo and black passionfruit for market. We also grow most of our own vegetables and other fruits. We have a flock of chooks, a friendly dog called Wallace and a pretty recreational garden.

We are on the edge of an estuary and 5 minutes bike ride from the beach.

We are close to the villages of Karamea and Market Cross, about 5 mins bike ride to one and 10 mins to the other.
We are 20 mins from the Heaphy Track, 30 mins from the Wangapeka track and 40 mins from the Oparara Arches car park.
There are several other walkways and walking tracks close by.
Beach and river fishing spots are also close by and you are welcome to try out our rods and nets.
We have 2 pushbikes you can use anytime.
The accommodation is separate from the house and has a kitchen, bedroom and compost toilet. At this point the shower is at the main house but if you are interested in creating a nice shower space nearer to your space there then we are keen to help you try your idea out.... more inside
