After volunteering in various farms in the world, I managed to convince my father accept about hosting volunteers and I`m really happy to start that new experience in our property. The farm is only 1hectare, sufficient for a family to grow veggies and care few animals for our own consumption. It`s about 10years that we didn`t do much on buildings and the priority will be renovate walls and roofs. I live in a mobile-home in the middle of the farm with dry toilet and solar shower but we`ll provide private rooms in the house for volunteers. There are 2bathrooms and all "normal" convenience in the house (even if I don`t think that`s normal to waste 5Liters of water at every flush... So, there are dry toilets outside, it will be up to you to use them)
I`ll be assisting volunteers, as my father doesn`t speak english. Hopefully you`ll speak some basics french to communicate with him. Don`t hesitate to write me for any further information.
See you soon!
Coral and Jean-Mi

Originally from the North East of Scotland we moved to Central France and bought the abandoned farm in 2008 after selling up in Scotland in 2006 and down-sizing to a camper-van with our two huge dogs and touring around Europe looking for the right place to put down some roots. We are working towards being as self-sufficient as possible-renovating the buildings and developing the land using eco-friendly, sustainable techniques, resources and energy. We have one hectare of land surrounding the house and a further 2 hectares of overstood, abandoned coppiced woodland that we are attempting to regenerate to provide our fuel; building materials; material for basket-making; charcoal-making etc. and just for being a beautiful place to spend time in and have fun!
The hectare of land is divided into pasture for animals and a potager/vegetable garden and orchard for food production. We are joining up these areas to create an all-encompassing "forest garden".
We have recently given up our g... more inside

After worked 20 years for the contemporary theater and circus show: Light designer, stage manager, scenography,
few years ago, i started a new project :

Animals and nature lover,open-minded, now living in a beautyfull organic farm beside the Pyrenees mountains.
The country is beautiful, green and wild. We have pure water from a natural spring, a lot of forest and field.

I built a barn (500 m2) for animals and after,i used 50 m2 inside, built my apartment/ house in wood ( eco construction ) and a independante room for helpers, so we share this space whith animals; i love it!

Here live some Donkeys, poneys and horses. Sure not for the meat! We also have playful dog and cats.

We need help with many different jobs including fencing, feeding, take care of animals, changing to different pastures or moving them into the barn when the weather is bad, take wood in forest, some gardening and small building projects.

We are in the south of France beside Pyrénées, Toulouse ... more inside

Description

Hello, I'm traveling by inland river barge through Europe, especially France, Belgium and Holland. The barge is an original Dutch built peniche and made for the old French channels. I still transport cargo and I am the third generation of a shipper family from both sides of my parents. I live and work alone on the barge sometimes accompanied by my girlfriend.

There is a simple separate -little- room (see photo..)for guests in the front of the barge which is not suite. (no sanitation, but there is a chemical toilet and lavabo) Also a heating system, fridge/freezer and micro-wave.

The work to do depends on the person, maybe some cleaning, housekeeping work, shopping and cooking??? And serving the aperitif of the skipper of course at 18h00 exactly..LOL.

My intention is to make contact with other people and have an exchange of cultures.

Kind regards,

William

Our family runs a western riding facility with 30 stalls, where we provide horse boarding and training, including reining and cow work. We also have a western saloon, where we host weddings, special events, and are open for our club members on weekends. In return for cleaning out stalls and feeding horses (and the odd other job), we offer room and board, we include you in family activities and you have the possibility to improve your riding skills in western riding (cow work and reining) in our 30 x 60 m arena and - how about -learning some line dancing!! A bicycle is available, if you want to explore the near surroundings. We are located close to Switzerland, it`s about a 15 minutes car ride to Basle, and also only about 20 minutes to Germany. Our area is a great tourist region.
If you are mature, fit and self-motivated, willing to stay for a minimum of 2 weeks, experienced with handling horses, we would be happy to hear from you!

We have created an association here in the heart of the Normandy countryside at my home with the aim of sharing ideas and practices relating to permaculture, veganism and sustainable living. The work with friends and volunteers is currently coordinated by myself (an English woman with a background in plant based cooking, permaculture, organic gardening, teaching and ecoconstruction).

This year we will be rendering a rammed earth tyre retaining wall in the garden with earth, lime and mosaics, building rustic gates and applying lime renders to part of the old wattle and daub house. We will also be developing the food growing aspect of the project. We have created an edible/permaculture landscape consisting of a mandala garden, apple orchard and forest garden. We grow edible flowers, herbs and fruit and vegetables. I want to work on incorporating more green manures, edible perennais, living mulch and wild plants.

Vegan cooking is a big part of life here. We try to use p... more inside

We are a small organic olive farm, not yet in production. We practice permaculture and the olives are part of a `forest garden` which also includes 200 cork oaks, carob and other trees and shrubs. We also have a vegetable garden, fruit trees, dogs, cats, a house pig, donkeys and worms!. Living in a Mediterranean climate we practice several different methods of water recycling and have a biological swimming pool. Help is required with all aspects of a compassionate, sustainable lifestyle.
Meals are vegan, wine is served with the evening meal and we are non smoking. Current projects are harvesting, general forestry and garden management, animal care, creating new housing for recently rescued animals plus various indoor projects for bad weather. The olive harvest is late October.
Normally up to 4 helpers are here at a time, living as part of a family style community. We ask a minimum commitment of 4 weeks, with longer stays very much preferred. People usually book a few weeks ahead, b... more inside
