Hey, do you like art projects?, weeding? Plaiting? Eating flowers? ??, if you are into mountains and rivers and nature away from it all, this is a great area. The house is spacious and cool. Caravan and tents too. Food is simple and yummy.
This year we are working on beautifying the concrete shed with a mosaic, painting the caravan, restoring old furniture and giving them some zing, working on trees and planting and weed control too.
Lots of little and big projects.
Im a former midwife and enjoy meeting new people and sharing experiences and learning new things.

We are searching for someone who can stay for minimum a month and can book both tickets (to and from Madeira) within a week.

Start date:
-August 16h (1 person)
-September 15th (1 person)

Hi everyone! We're Philippe and Anna.
Since June 2013 we're running the first hostel on our beautiful island, 20 minutes walking from Funchal center. Ourselves being backpackers, our goal is to make the place a comfortable and homey place to stay for people who come to discover Madeira and find new friends.

The hostel itself is a big house with capacity of 22 people. Here we have a bit of everything - bunk-bedrooms, private rooms for couples or friends, shared living rooms.

The help we need is not hard to do, but requires day-to-day attention. The main help is about keeping the place presentable and clean, getting rooms ready for the guests and some small tasks. Usually all the tasks don't take longer than 3 - 4 hours of help total, so there's still enough time to go around:)

We are a couple in our late 30s/early 40s living in Central Portugal on a four acre farm. We have been here for five years producing our own meat, growing our own vegetables and trying to do everything as naturally and chemically free as we can, all off grid.

At the moment May/June we are working on getting all the land tidied now spring is here. There is lots of strimming and weeding to be done, summer planting in the vegetable patch and gardens. Ponds to be tidied.
We are also looking to try and dig a new pond and animal house to start a set up for duckponics, like hydroponics but with ducks!
There is always lots of day to day stuff to done here and hopefully we can make the days as varied as possible whilst hopefully learning new things from each other!
We have a yurt that you can stay in and an outdoor kitchen and bbq area to use. There is a composting toilet, solar shower and wood fired bath by the yurt. These are all for private use, we have our own set up further up ... more inside

An old house and banana organic farm that belonged to my great grandparents which I manage since 4 years ago. I host tourists through Airbnb and sometimes CouchSurfing. You'll help me maintain the garden, banana plantation vegetables and other trees, composting, housekeeping, some construction, upcycling and welcoming guests for my Airbnb space. I love working with permaculture, dry toilets, bio-construction, fungal and bacterial worlds, arts and spiritualism. I have a very good network of friends and people that work on sustainability in the island, Portugal mainland and even world like. I have done independent volunteering in Haiti after the big earthquake with GiveLove NGO, working on compost toilets with Joe Jenkins (Humanure Handbook), Hamish Skermer (Natural Event) and Patricia Arquette (actress and NGO founder). I have also managed, develop and scaled up the dry toilets and food waste composting departments at Boom Festival in 2008, 2010 and 2012.
I ask for 5 hours of work... more inside

Ex academic artist, (and just to be clear about things), gay male. Wanting to build towards a combination of summer tourist accommodation and winter and special occasion artist residency. Currently converting a smaller house (grey house in image beside chapel house now white and yellow) as a temporary residence and beginning work on the larger house (with the Chapel) into private living accommodation. Have just built a platform for a two double bedroom tent with common area situated in a shady area above the new pool. This will be the helper accommodation. I have just put in two new double spring mattresses on frames. Would prefer single people. There are several ruins on the property which will be eventually converted into accommodation. Plenty of olive trees that make great oil...a variety of fruit and nut trees. The location is on the side hill beside a small village. I need help with most things. There is plenty to do both on land and small renovation tasks such as painting. It ... more inside

14 day minimum stay-having people come and go is tiring and it takes a while to adjust to eco house lifestyle. Friendly experienced help required [animal friendly people 2 dogs and a cat here]who respect creativity. We are only 13 minutes WALK through countryside from a very special unspoilt clean ocean sandy beach in a designated protected natural park area.Due to injury and other difficulties this year; we don`t feel we have the right level of enthusiastic energy to be the best introduction to helpxing for inexperienced helpers. We need general friendly help from June 2018 onwards. . We like 24 hours work each week each person + a bit of vegetable chopping/washing up this is for your accommodation and all your food (see our reviews)
We would value and appreciate an intelligent willing supportive person to help with de-cluttering -organising house etc ,housework painting, weeding, pruning. We always need someone who can dry stone wall using the stones that are on the land, as l... more inside

Small farm, back to basics, we really need help with getting this small neglected farm back to what it may have been quite some years ago, with the aim of being self sufficient in time. The ruin is being rebuilt, using eco building methods. We take the clay from the land and the stones are here too, with a mix of clay and lime are repairing walls, we soon want to experiment with clay as plaster and maybe floors too. the land needs lots of tlc, and this involves working alongside nature but cleaning the fire risk plants that have now died off as it's very hot most days atm. I have some young animals needing a little hand too. I`d love to hear from anyone who has an interest in permaculture and natural building with earth and lime, The farm is situated near a quaint little village in central Portugal. There are great places to visit locally, and some very inviting lakes to swim in when it`s too hot. Help is needed in many areas as the farm is very neglected, no skills necessary, just... more inside
