Committed to the health and well being of the planet, I am investing my energies into the residents of this small pueblo, which is now my home. My children are grown & living abroad but practice & promote sustainable lifestyles which they learned from their mom growing up in Costa Rica. Now I have the time to share this knowledge with this special community, far off the beaten path. The most immediate need will be during July 2019 when the students will be on their 3 week vacation. Although I believe that children need free time, I am offering an alternative to the TV, video games and cell phones. We will be running a free summer camp with arts, song, dance & games within the context of a structured eco-camp being implemented around Costa Rica. Fluent Spanish is not necessary but obviously some spanish language skills will be helpful. If you love children or would like an informal opportunity to teach & guide children, this may be just for you! After camp I will be looking for volun... more inside

Our goal here is to preserve and respect the environment. As a result of this, we are vegetarian and we believe in the importance of recycling, reusing and organic farming. We also want to share our resources and knowledge with our community.

Come and visit our plantation where you will find about 90 types of fruit trees and other trees, 10 types of bamboo, cacao to make your own chocolate, flowers and 2 creeks to refresh in when it gets too hot! Here you will be immersed in a typical Caribbean Costa Rican village.

We are in the process of becoming a sustainable farm and community in the cool tropical mountains of Costa Rica. Our mountain top working coffee and banana farm has year round cool climate, views, fruits, wildlife and waterfalls. The longer you will stay the more you will learn. We have various positions volunteers can fill depending on experiences and skills. Everything including building projects, permaculture, energy, gardening, animal care, cooking and even computer work.

We currently have a large 6 bedroom house of which we rent out bedrooms to paying guests on airbnb but we still have need for working visitors or volunteers that can commit to longer time periods.

Our farm consists of a coffee/banana plantation, various fruit trees, pasture, forest, various breeds of chickens, guinea hens, ducks, chickens, sheep, goats and a few horses. Everyday you can see toucans, 100s of bird species and sloths among the trees.

We have several professional local workers that he... more inside

Animal Rescue and Sanctuary and Organic Vegan Farm in Central Costa Rica

Hello everyone!

What we do: We take care of animals, we grow organic food, we prepare and eat tasty vegan meals, we minimize our impact on the earth, and we enjoy the company of our Costa Rican friends and neighbors. We have run a volunteer program for over 9 years, and have had several hundred people come to work with us!

Our farm is primarily an animal rescue, rehab and sanctuary. Our doors are open to animals in need. We currently have many rescue dogs, a goat, two pigs, a horse and three cats. Some came off the streets, some were abandoned, others were injured and no longer wanted. We adopt out what we can, but most are “lifers” on the farm.

The property (roughly 3.5 hectares) is covered with many tropical fruit trees, including water apple, mandarin orange, banana (many varieties), guayaba, guanabana, cas, ciamito, lime, coffee and araza. We also put in plant beds with peppers, cilantro, cabba... more inside
