Welcome to our humble community of travelers making chocolate and other yummy foods in the Caribbean!

We were inspired by the plethora of edible wonders that grow in the tropical region and made it our purpose to cultivate, transform, and share the juiciest pleasures that nature provides with the absolute minimal of refined or industrial ingredients entering our kitchen.

We are in the midst of fixing up an old house on the riverfront with amazing potential in store and turning it into a chocolate factory, artisan products manufacturers and events/catering service. We’re working low budget with the help of volunteers to actualize this dream and we’re learning lots along the way. If you have something special to share (cool skills, or lots of energy), we’d love to hear from you!

What we're looking for from you:

Here at the choco house, we hold space to showcase our volunteers creative talents and ask that you contribute in the ways you are most inspired. There are always p... more inside

We are an English-Dutch couple who have recently bought an existing hotel. We are in the process of changing the place from a resort to a flash-packers and need help with the hotel and other tasks. We are located in a great community of Garifuna, a very specific culture to this area. We encourage the local musician and have music at least twice a week. We are located right on the beach and have a nice swimming pool, gardens, games, paddle boards and a huge book collection. Volunteers will have their own room with private bathroom if they are a couple, if they are alone, they will share a room with another volunteer.

We´re a nonprofit that works with programs of education, microloans, and health projects in rural Guatemala. With a mission to reduce levels of poverty, create new jobs, and generate the development of poor and working-class people, our programs help young people to find employment and success through education.

We have a school of 500 students who come from five states across Guatemala; together they speak seven indigenous languages, and come to learn English, computer skills, how to work as a team, social skills, and social entrepreneurship.

We´re looking for volunteers to do many things!

-Teach our students English, an important skill for giving them access to the global economy.

-Help us design a webpage for our school

-If you have medical or psychological training, we would love your help in working with our students, who have little access to medical and psychological support.

In exchange, we offer free Spanish or indigenous language classes, housing and fo... more inside

We are a small business that produces and sells live-cultured food and drinks. We offer fermentation workshops from our home, varying in length from 1 to 4 days. Most of our products can be found in health food stores, hotels and restaurants around Lago Atitlan, as well as a handful of stores in Antigua and Guatemala City. We are looking for interns who are eager to learn about live foods, and would be willing to commit a minimum of 3 months to work with us. Our busy time of year is December through July.

We are looking for assistance in various aspects of our business. The first aspect is hands-on production. We are looking for someone to help us with our product line, which includes kombucha, ginger beer, jun tea, sauerkraut, kefir yogurt, tibicos, sourdough bread, vinegers, various alcoholic beverages, bliss balls, hot sauce, etc. This person would also be assisting with deliveries and market runs around the lake, as well as helping to prepare and organize the house on works... more inside

Our project's centered on working with Volunteers in El Remate, Guatemala. Founded by a nomad at heart and educator by trade. Earning his Masters Degree in International Business while traveling and volunteering around the world for the past nine years. I was able to find his direction was most needed in El Remate.

Our project will be working with another foundation, founded by a lovely Canadian lady. Her project has been based in El Remate for 20+ years, helping with projects in Health, Dental, Education, and Women’s movement. This project has been super successful but could be even more successful with the proper volunteers. El Remate has an unmet need for education. The town has nowhere to house volunteers.

Our goals are:
To staff volunteers for both projects within Remate
To continue success and growth within the programs of Remate.
To implement volunteers into three schools in Remate.
Overall, the ultimate goal is to open an ESL school for Children and Adults.

We opened November 2011. Our first year we provided 6,820 kilometers of bicycle tours, 512 hours of English classes, planted 360 trees and 242 organic veggie gardens, raised 36 chickens and 5 goats, brought hundreds of participants from 28 different countries into our Partner Communities, benefiting more than 1500 families and dozens of locally-owned small businesses.

During our first year, we removed more than a ton of garbage from our Partner Communities, opened two new Community Centers, provided the first non-profit ecotourism trips to Tikal, El Mirador and, of course, our secret spots all around Lake Peten Itza. With the support of our Partner Communities and hundreds of participants, our first year was a success.

Today we serve 18 Partner Communities and 5,000 families. Buenas Cosas’ sustainable social development projects are built from the the ground-up with a functional respect for local cultures, traditions and values. Our focus is ecotourism, voluntourism, Spanish ... more inside

We are a popular organic farm in Antigua, with a weekly farmers market, restaurant, and store. We are currently developing a new property in the nearby village "Parramos" about 25 minutes by car from Antigua, and we are looking for 1-2 long-term volunteers with experience in Eco-construction to help us design and build a nice cabin. We can offer a nice campspot in the middle of the farm with a roof and some basic utilities, as well as a beautiful view of the property and surrounding volcanoes. We can also offer fresh produce from the farm. This is a great opportunity for nature loving people who are into construction and want to take part in helping us grow our sustainable, organic community.
