We are a family of 4- mom, dad 11 year-old boy and Granny with 3 dogs, 3 cats and a lot of chickens! We have started from scratch as there were no buildings and no grid power. We are building our own steel-framed, straw bale house with all means of alternative power. Our long-term goal is to be self-sustaining. We would like short-term help with building like clay plastering.
Being a farm, there are many other things which need doing like repairing fencing, animal care, path making etc. We have a small timber cabin with a comfy queen bed with linen provided. There is also a caravan with 2 separate beds.
At present there are shared ablutions with the family while we finish our house.
We provide a weekly box of mostly dry foods, with eggs from our hens , some fresh veg and dairy bought in. There is a shipping container which is the living area and has a kitchen to prepare your meals. You can bring anything not on the good list we provide. There is no fridge- just a cold box. We are an eco-community made up of a small group of people living off the grid and aiming for self-sufficiency in all aspects of our lives. We take on volunteers throughout the year in exchange for food, accommodation and to experience our tranquil lifestyle. We are in the process of upgrading our retreat facilities, our yoga hall and clearing portions of the invasive tree species in our forest. Hence, volunteer tasks at the moment include cutting down trees, woodwork, fixing, painting and assisting with food production.

We are a trout/flyfishing farm situated in a mountainous, forestry area just off the well known Long Tom Pass between Lydenburg and Sabie. We are keen to develop a rustic backpackers and overlanders area as well as mountain bike trails and foot paths throughout the farm.

We are looking for helpers for a minimum of two weeks to assist in these areas as well assist us in our aquaculture venture. We usually stock fingerlings (Rainbow trout) in our dams but are quite keen to hatch our own eggs once we have upgraded our raceways.

We wish to expand our food production to include an extended agro-processing range (currently including cheese, butter, yoghurt, kombucha, sprouts). Description

We are a small family living on a twenty hectare ORGANIC FARM.
Our aim is to be as self-sufficient as possible and farm in a morally responsible manner while enjoying a peaceful lifestyle.
We have +/- twenty cows which we milk, eat and use as fertilizors; three breeding pigs; in-numeral chickens for eggs, meat and as de-tickers; a flock of geese. The herd of goats is for land-clearing and milk; the horse, mule and donkey for grazing rotation. Our four dogs besides being pets are for breeding. We also have a few hives of bees for honey.
We grow our own vegetables in our large vegetable garden.

Area

We are situated in Byrne Valley, Richmond, Kwazulu Natal. A very beautiful, serene and picturesque area with natural grasslands, indigenous forest and a small village of mainly RETIRED people. There are beautiful walks we would be happy to show you.
