What makes it awesome?

In the Hertfordshire countryside just on the outskirts of London, Bhaktivedanta Manor, complete with its farmlands, beautiful gardens and temple is a real sanctuary for the soul. Open all year round to visitors and students of ancient wisdom, the temple offers a great experience with tours of the shrine, gardens and compassionate farm. Here are the rooms of the famous Hare Krishna guru Srila Prabhupada, to whom George Harrison gifted this iconic mock Tudor mansion. We have inspirational talks, yoga classes, mantra meditation, vegetarian cooking classes and various retreats.

A welcoming, vibrant and cheerful farm community set in the countryside just outside of London.
In additon to the main theological college, we have a farm of 100 acres with 60 cows and oxen, an 8 acre vegetable growing area, formal gardens, fruit orchards (modest size), hedges, small woodlands and bee hives. We grow naturally using cow manure fertilizer and we dont use pesticides or ... more inside

In September 2019 pete had an operation that went wrong resulting in him being wheelchair bound, but he can still teach a lot of skills.
We will be needing help with, lots of general gardening, woodland work, including logging and firewood, occasional dog walking if you like dogs, mucking out of goats and working with goats who are milked twice a day. "La Bella Figura” or “making the best of what you have” is a phrase that best defines our approach. We are custodians of a beautiful home and farm and take a sympathetic, sensitive, and slow approach to restoration and farming. We started the project 10 years ago by replanting old hedgerows and woods, restoring ancient orchards and constructing a lake for wildlife. At the same time we researched how to tackle the farmhouse and it’s outbuildings using original materials such as lime plasters, breathable paints and elm. Bit by bit all the pieces came together, the foundations for the farm, a self sufficient small holding stocked with rare breeds more suitable to extensive rather than intensive farming and growing fruit and vegetables. Each decision we make is linked in some way, for example, the planting of wild flowers, lime trees and replanting of the orchards were all done with our honey bees in mind.

We have found ourselves increasingly interested in this approach and enjoy the... more inside

Hello! We are Deborah and Malcolm: artists and retired lecturers, with a home, and garden with fantastic seaviews in a quiet residential area of Torquay on the English Riviera. The first photo is the view from our home overlooking Lyme Bay. For many years we have been a host family for students learning English at local language schools and enjoy teaching visitors about our language and culture.
Torquay is in the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark, a beautiful area of interesting geology with caves just under the hill from our home. The South West coast path, Torre Abbey and Cockington village and craft centre are easy walking distance from our home. The city of Exeter and Plymouth can be reached easily by train, bus or a short car journey.
We are a quiet couple working from home in our artist's studios. We'd like help with housework, and gardening. A comfortable Double/twin bedroom with private bathroom is available for helpers for up to two weeks at a time. We have Wifi. We... more inside

Looking for help from 1st December 2019

We live by the sea in Devon, in the South West of England, half an hour from the wonderful Dartmoor National Park, 25 minutes from the beautiful city of Exeter. The nearest train station with trains to London every couple of hours is just a short walk away.

We live 5 minutes walk away from the beach and harbour.

We're actually in the process of moving just around the corner, so need help packing, cleaning, maybe some decorating.....

In exchange for about 4.5 hours work a day, 5-6 days a week, you will have accomodation, decent wifi and all meals, including a packed lunch if you are going out for the day. We eat a vegan diet (no meat, diary or eggs). It would be great if you are vegan too, but of course that's not a requirement! We'll give you plenty of tips to help you cook and enjoy vegan food ;)

The work hours you are required to do need to be flexible around the family - depending what needs doing that day - but ideally i... more inside

**WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR A JOINER/CARPENTER, PLUMBER, ELECTRICIAN OR A COMBINATION OF THE ABOVE!

I am restoring and renovating a large Victorian house in Central London and am looking for help immediately. It is a family home (I am a single mum with an 11 year old son).

We live in Limehouse in East London, 2 minutes away from the station. Limehouse DLR is 2 stops (every 2 min) away from Bank (Central Line), Tower Hill (Circle and District Line) and Canary Wharf (Jubilee Line). It takes 20min to get to Oxford Circus on the tube. And obviously we are close to all the arty, young energy of East London.

On your own time, you can explore all the amazing things in London etc, but unfortunately, as I'm a busy working mom, I won't be providing any tour guidance. We like happy, fun people, and the odd glass of wine, but no partying in the house as this is a family home. No smokers please.

We are looking for energetic, hard working, organised and upbeat people to he... more inside

Hi traveller!

First: Please read ALL of our listing before contacting us!

We need helpxers between MAY and SEPTEMBR at these properties to help us do basic property maintenance, spring cleaning and gardening. It's quite hard work, so if you're a bit idle, please don't apply. The rest of the year we spend travelling int he UK and abroad.

We are a young-at-heart, well-travelled couple who own two holiday cottages. One is in the countryside in SOMERSET (rural, but not isolated). The other is at the sea-side in lovely West Mersea, ESSEX. Make sure you know which one you are coming to as they're hundreds of kms apart!

Julie is a professional horse trainer (www.equitationsciencetraining.net)

We absolutely love hosting and to have good company while we are keeping these properties tidy, and you are welcome to join us in either property if you have RELEVANT experience (either property maintenance, cleaning or gardening).

A caravan renovator/handyman or mechanic would be ... more inside
