We've been part of Helpx for several years now and have met some wonderful people, many of whom we still keep in touch with.

We live in York, in the north of England, where we have a garden and (a 10 minute walk away) an allotment where we grow fruit and vegetables.

We try to cultivate using the `no-dig` method and like to re-use and recycle wherever possible.

Our house has solar panels on the roof for water and electricity as we are keen to reduce our impact on the environment.

The work includes turning and spreading compost, making new beds and paths, weeding, seed sowing, planting out, grass cutting and fence painting.

From early summer, fruit and vegetables are ready to be harvested and prepared for freezing and conserving.
If the weather is bad then there are always jobs to get on with in the house, garage and greenhouse.

We can offer all meals, laundry and accommodation, (own bathroom) in return for a helping hand, usually around 4-5 hours a day, 5/6 days a ... more inside

If you would like to be considered please contact us giving us as much detail about yourself as possible.

We need help with our animals (several horses, many chickens and 1 playful friendly small dog), the fields, the garden and in the house IN EXCHANGE for all food, accommodation, a lot of riding for someone experienced, a beautiful area and the opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people. We cater for vegetarians and many special diets (especially Coeliacs) but unfortunately NOT vegans (as we use our delicious fresh eggs!). We are unable to provide Kosher or Halal food.

Riding is available (during free time) for someone reasonably experienced (and of a suitable height and weight) and who has their own riding insurance and can bring their own helmet and suitable footwear.

We are easy going and enjoy what we do and love our animals. We ask that you are easy going too and flexible as some days there may be more to do while on other days there will be less. Days off... more inside

(Very sorry but canít take volunteers just now . Sending best wishes and hope for all of you)
This is a stone farm house and outbuildings situated with five acres of sheltered and peaceful land in a valley in the hills. Surrounded by mature trees and bordering a mountain stream, we have a forest garden, vegetable beds, polytunnel, ponds, coppices, meadows and woodland. Sheep graze part of the land whilst some meadow is left to encourage wildflowers. Wildlife is a priority and permaculture informs the management of land and lifestyle here. The owner is home-based and usually available to work alongside volunteers.
Guests and volunteers are accommodated in the farmhouse, or in a cabin or may camp in summer months. People sometimes come here for retreat, enjoy the tranquility, breathe exceptionally clear air and find silence interrupted only by birdsong and the sounds of wind and river.
Volunteers are asked to help with the daily and seasonal activities. These might be gardening... more inside
