We live with our two sons on a small farmlet 25 minutes from central Christchurch. We have a large garden, a paddock of walnuts, lots of chickens, and several alpaca. We have a pretty busy life and both work in town. In our spare time we love to be in the outdoors- mountain biking, running, skiing, gardening, tramping etc. We've been hosts for many years now and throughly enjoy what each helpxer brings.

We live very near the Selwyn River and Lake Ellesmere and our location is great for exploring the peninsula, and the local area.

The accomodation is in a cosy sleep out in the garden. The sleepout now has two single beds(so couples or two friends are welcome)and you will use a bathroom in the house. You can cook your own meals or you can eat with the family (most guests do), we are vegetarian. In exchange for your accomodation we ask 4 hours work (per person) around the property.

We have two options available for potential people in regards to what we offer.

Option 1.
Spotlighting (or Lamping ) with my partner Steve removing Rabbits, Hares & Wallabies.
We can show you what a typical night out involves and primarily he requires someone to spotlight the animals for him and we can show you how we process them. We use no poisons it is primarily done by shooting or trapping - the ideal person would have some knowledge of how this works. Even though we are based in Oxford the work is around the South Island so you get the opportunity to visit stations that very few people have access to and this is generally 3 nights away.

Option 2.
As we have recently moved to the new property - we have a number of things that we require help with - setting up the new vege garden and helping with the ponies, chooks & dogs.
Depending on the time of year - we do compete in horse shows so if you love that sort of thing we are happy to include you :)

We are a family on a working / hobby farm with a massive variety of animals including horses, cow and calves , pigs and sometimes piggies, donkeys, goats, ponies, over 100 geese, chickens, rabbits, 10 dogs and sometimes puppies, cats and sometimes kittens, tonnes of little birds and 2 very friendly children. Wouter is 60yrs old, is around 1.9m tall and has a good sense of humor & likes to read about the economy. Marina is 36yrs old, and works from home as an Architectural Illustrator.

We need someone to mind our children and someone else to help out around the farm.

If you are child minding then we would need you to walk around the farm with the children, read to them, play with them in the playground, walk to get the mail, visit the animals, and feed the animals with them. It is an advantage of you feel you have something to teach them and it would be nice if you could read to them. If would be nice if you could help out a bit around the house also like do some dishes.

We are a family of 5, and live 4kms outside the small village of Hororata. We are about 1 hour from 2 major ski-fields (Mt Hutt and Porters). We have horses and we all ride. A few sheep sometimes cattle, 1 dog, 3 cats and chickens. I am big on gardening and have a new garden and am busy planning and planting.

We are a busy family, both working part-time and full-time so really just require people Friday-Sunday during Spring to Autumn, Friday-Monday during Winter.

We require someone who can ride to help excercise our horses, and enjoys gardening and learning new skills, building skills would be handy, there would be haycarting in summer, feeding out animals etc.

You would need to be hardworking and trustworthy. You will need to have your own transport. We would provide accomodation and 3 meals in return for 4-5 hours work per day.
Non-smokers only please.

Local shop/garage is 4km away, also cafe and sports bar.
