We are a husband and wife team running about 100 beef cattle and 2500 sheep for wool and meat. Our adult children are living and working away from home

This is a 711 hectare property situated 20km north of Cassilis village which is located in the Hunter Valley between Merriwa and Coolah, or 110km north west of Mudgee.

The terrain is hilly to steep, with two creeks running through the property. The farm is vegetated with natural pastures and bush-land areas.

We are looking for people who are reliable, self motivated, enthusiastic, and willing to work unsupervised on some days, and must be willing to work on the weekends if required.

The terrain and geographical isolation may make work difficult for unhealthy people to carry out farm duties.

Work duties to include looking after the vegetable garden, fencing, painting, general maintenance, stock work and animal husbandry. Shearing occurs in May, lambing and calving starts in August with lamb and calf marking in Octobe... more inside

We have two children (6 and 9) and would like to offer accommodation to travellers who are willing to assist with odd jobs around the house including cooking and cleaning. We are willing to be flexible with hours worked (ie: you can work long hours one day and then have a day off). We can offer free internet (when you are not with the children) and are happy for you to eat with our family. We enjoy eating quality/healthy food and aim to be sugar free as much as possible with our children.

Our children attend a Steiner/Waldorf school so we are focused on nature based activities (walks, going to the beach etc), art/craft and reading. We do not have a television and discourage use of screens in front of our children. As much as we love hosting guests from different cultures, we would like you to interact with our children so we do need you to have a reasonable grasp of English.

We live a short walk from the famous Bondi Beach and an easy bus/train trip to the city.

GROWING FOOD - BUILDING HABITAT - REWILDING

Educating and investing in the good

We live in the rainforest hinterland behind Byron Bay. The nearest town is Mullumbimby 20 minutes away, Byron is another 15 minutes from there.

We are developing an edible forest garden on a permaculture design and returning the rest of the land to rainforest. We have a large variety of native flora and fauna. Native birds, lizards, bees, frogs, wallabies and micro-bats thrive here. There are two ponds that sometimes have platypus living in them, and blue fresh water crayfish (not for eating). We have one flow hive for low stress honey collection from European bees.

We are not aiming to be self-sufficient in food, rather to have an abundant food supply, which we supplement from the markets.

WHAT DRIVES US
Love. People. Increasing bio-diversity on this wondrous piece of land. Doing positive stuff for the planet. We allow our minds to wander and think outside the box. This place supports w... more inside
