Hi,

Our names are Steve & Frances and we live in a small south facing Quinta or Farm in the heart of Portugal near the beautiful Sierra de Estrella mountains, which provide us with our breathtaking views. We travelled Europe in a camper van for 4 years doing volunteer work, before finally settling down here in Portugal. We decided to make our own piece of paradise and put into action all the things we learnt on our travels, to try and give something back to Mother Nature. We have only just started on our journey here and currently we have very limited facilities, but are working hard to improve them. We need the assistance of some energetic pioneer helpers who don't mind a little rough living for a short while. We aspire to Permaculture principles and design in all the things that we do, and would love to teach and learn at the same time, as we set about putting our ideas and designs into action.

We love to socialise and after the days work is done, enjoy a good beer or a nice... more inside

There is a beautiful spot in a valley. This land is now our garden, so if you like forrest farming-gardening, welcome.

We live a simple and healthy life. We have no internet(or not a good one-mobile connection)
or telephone reception, so low radiation.

For phone calls we walk up the hill, for internet we visit libraries or cafes.
There are 2 (caravans) or a tent available.

Although the location is remote, there is a big social network here with many like-minded back-to-the-land people.

We appreciate more or less 2-4 hours of work a day.

Activities are cleaning, building, collecting firewood, cooking and more.

We are (pretty) new at this and look foreward to some wonderful connections.

We are living on a 7 hectare Permaculture Forest Garden which we have developed over the last 14 years, it is a mature example and one of the largest in Europe.

We are aiming to be as self sufficient as poss and are currently extending our forest garden, designing and p... more inside

FEB/ MARCH 2018; URGENT HELP NEEDED !! see below....

On the edge of a beautiful lake in Southern Portugal is a steeply wooded valley,where I have an on-going woodland conservation project. Solar panels supply my energy needs and pump water from the lake,as part of the aim to create a sustainable lifestyle. I intend eventually to offer natural retreat Yurt holidays and craft workshops but at the moment need help with the following;
The organic vegetable and herb gardens: I follow traditional organic methods rather than permaculture,( although I incorporate some principles.) My vegetables grow in raised beds, in which I am aiming to improve the heavy clay soil with compost and manure, and am experimenting with a combination of mulches and drip irrigation.
Woodland management: making and maintaining paths and steps, especially in the wake of damage done by wild boar.
A major tree planting project is underway; we are preparing a hectare of land by clearing invasive shrubs and ... more inside

I am setting-up a local-based international holistic centre, leisure and vacation centre, training, well-being and personal development. There will be an own renewable generation projected, as well as improving the thermal insulation, investing in marketing and management tools, creating own employment and the conditions to host travellers, tourists and courses to this lovely part of the world.
This is a holistic project, bringing together spirit and body, in an eco venture. Like-minded, open, curious, fun and adventurous souls are most welcome!
I've learned 10 languages, yes ten languages (PT, EN, FR, ES, IT, NL, DE, PL, KH, JP), and speak fluently 6 (six) languages (the first six that I mentioned), having lived in 8 countries, within 3 continents, so it is highly unlikely that we will experience much in the way of challenges communicating :-D
ATTENTION: Please note that this year there will be a lot of refursbishing work, installing new, better insulated doors and windows, sola... more inside
