Nestled in the peaceful and tranquil Northland bush above Kawakawa, I am slowly converting a bit of bush into a couple of paddocks, but have no fear I am keeping a fair bit of bush and planting new areas with more natives to attract more bird life.
I breed rather large pigs with a lot of love and compassion. I also breed rabbits while raising ducks, hens and a few calves, sheep and lambs. I try to keep things as natural as possible while being practical.
At the moment I have calves that are being hand raised.
I have plenty of room for someone to park their van or motor home or tent and failing that I have available a caravan with a double bed and a single bed.
We are secluded so have a limited alternative power supply and tank water and no wifi.
I'm looking for someone who would be willing to help out with general farm work, including fencing, feeding animals, cutting firewood, weed control, plumbing, a bit of building etc and anything else that comes along. I recommend that y... more inside

Hi, we’re new to HelpX. We've had a few backpacker stay with us over the last through years but it's always been word of mouth.
We're a couple in our early 50’s with children that have spread their wings.
Our home is near Opito Bay which is 10 to 15 minutes from Kerikeri and Waipapa. We have a small four bedroom home overlooking the water, on a steep, bush clad section.
The area is tranquil and good for the soul. It offers lots of bird life, a couple of short walking tracks, sailing and stunning bays for swimming and fishing of the rocks. – We may even loan you a fishing rod if you don’t have one yourself and there’s always someone looking for crew if you’re interested in sailing.
There are two kayaks at the bottom of the section to use when you’ve cleared the track. ?

We can offer you your own room, Wifi, food and a comfy bed to rest your head and kiwi outside your bedroom window, in exchange for help 4 hours a day.
Some meals will be provided and you may be asked to hel... more inside

Situated approximately 25 minutes from both the East and West coasts, we are able to enjoy the diversity of the amazing Far North...
While being close enough to enjoy its many different beaches we are lucky enough to live in a beautiful rural setting.

Our busy family includes 4 young children for whom the outdoors is their playground.
We enjoy a classic New Zealand rural setting- river, grass pastures and native NZ bush on the property, the gravel road just completes the picture.

On our property we breed and raise small numbers of both cattle and sheep stock, we have a small orchid and grow many of our own vegetables.
Tasks a helper could be involved with while staying will include contributing to general upkeep and ongoing improvements around the house and on the property (for example this may include maintaining vegetable gardens, planting fruit trees, painting inside and out, gardening, weed management on the property, animal care, tree maintenance, gathering firewo... more inside
