We farm free range pigs, cattle, poultry and have a market garden. One of us is an ex-chef the other a climate change scientist with CSIRO. You will never have a bad meal and we love to cook a range of different ethnic dishes. Most of what we eat is grown/reared on the farm. We make our own charcuterie and salamis. We are trying to live as sustainably as possible and discourage the use of chemicals including excessive use of shampoos, detergents and cosmetics. One room is 2 single beds and we have a caravan attached to the house with a double bed. All meals are taken together. We match the work with people's skill levels, language skills and interests where possible. We expect 5 hours work per day (with 1 day off)for every 7 days accommodated. Flexible hours can be discussed. This may be a good option while you wait for other picking work to start in the area. In return we offer good food, nice accommodation, excursions, free internet, home brew, espresso coffee, fishing etc and hel... more inside

About here
The transition of the property began in 1998. It is on-going. There is a focus on producing nutrient dense food for our own needs, to share with friends and to use for feeding our animals.Increasing fruit and nut production and improved pasture development is also a focus. The pace is relaxed during the winter months with plenty of time for personal pursuits, be it: rest, self improvement, nature exploration or expanding your intellect. There is a 10kw grid fed solar system - water tanks -( it rains a lot here) Farm dams and a lot of trees. Its a great place to get away from a hectic life if you are seeking that. Your host is Lisa Mollison, Australian/ United States Nationality.

Now in October 2017 We are working on the nursery, hot-house, vegetable propagation, compost making, Also Construction of raised beds in our 32m hot house- there is plenty to do clearing the house and buildings of un needed stuff, cleaning everything and preparing for building upgrades. Other... more inside

Help with sustainable building in Brooks Bay, Tasmania, Australia
Build is 23 Sep - 7 Oct 2017 and Jan 2018.
We are school teachers who are experienced language teachers and love to help travellers. Our build is most unusual, being a hemp masonry structure with other recycled materials. The Hemp Masonry locks up more carbon than any other building material and is also thermally very effective as both an insulator and having good thermal mass. We are alsdo designing the house to be as passively solar as possible. It is situated in a most beautiful scenic location with a forest to the back and a large river to the front. It is in an area famous for tourism and is located 80kms south of Hobart, in Tasmania (Australia)

Help
Volunteers to be part of a team to build form work on an existing timber house structure. Then to fill the formwork with hempcrete mix. We will assist with training and be working alongside you. This hempcrete is part of sustainable building practices and consi... more inside

Nestled into the foothills of the Western Tiers in beautiful northern Tasmania is my home on about 50 acres of a mixture of native bush and pasture. Having been our warm family home for over 20 years but more recently a rental property, I have returned to bring our home back to life. Currently renovations are almost
complete, but there is some finishing off to be done.

I am also wanting to reestablish our once productive vegetable garden, prune and maintain the established mixed orchard with over 40 fruit trees, manage a small paddock of old hazelnut trees, and rescue and restore the land and gardens from blackberries, and invasive weeds! Please do not be overwhelmed...this is quite a journey...one step at a time.

What I can offer willing helpers, is a warm and friendly Tasmanian home experience, with home cooked meals (v, GF as well) and the opportunity to enrich your English conversation skills, if wanted, in a most beautiful part of Tasmania. Plenty of time to also rel... more inside
