This is a smallholding which has a small herd of pedigree dairy goats, chickens and show dogs . I sometimes breed my dogs and I show them all over Ireland at Championship shows . I try to use as much natural methods of farming as possible. Help always appreciated during the year . Process and pack the milk for sale, make cheese. I also have a small kitchen garden. Only time I do not host is during the Christmas period. The work load is not very heavy. Volunteers have a bedroom with private toilet and shower. all modern conveniences in the house. Please be fluent in English. I do not have time to teach you English or to spend time explaining over and over again, due to lack of English, what needs doing and why it needs to be done I speak a little spanish. I have a policy of not hosting lone (alone) females - sorry. Neither do I host people under 21 years of age. A good sense of humour and not taking life too seriously is a bonus. We have a beautiful old Irish period house in the heartland of county Kilkenny countryside. We have a woodland, a fruit orchard, a vegetable garden and out buildings. We also have some hens and a busy beehive. We try to be as self-sufficient as possible, growing a wide variety of vegetables, herbs and plants.

We are looking for someone to help this summer with gardening, painting, clearing hedges, wood-cutting and general outdoor work. Some of the work would be independent and some working closely with us. The work is always varied. We provide comfortable private accommodation in the house with a plentiful supply of organic healthy food and cooking. Kilkenny City is a 15 minute drive, and the house is just outside the village of Ballyragget.

Our little farm has 9 acres, which we are making the most out of. We are developing a small family run business. This is a small project set up by a youngish.. couple :) On the land we have chickens and ducks for eggs, we are raising pigs for meat, a polytunnel for vegetables, a half acre of annual vegetables, a small orchard (just planted) and we are in the process of creating a food forest and pond. We have a number of small projects in the pipeline for the coming year. Developing the food forest further, planting native trees, building a cob oven, building a cob chicken house. For any volunteers coming to stay, you should know we are not experts and are learning as we go. That being said we are excited to share what knowledge we do have.
In addition to the farm work, I am training in natural horsemanship, using the Parelli method, so for anyone interested in horses, there is the opportunity to learn about working with horses naturally. We do not currently use horses for farm wor... more inside
