Martin and I are retired but very active. I was a teacher and ran a business, Martin was a builder and it's largely thanks to him that most of our old farm buildings here have been sensitively renovated in the local style. We live just to the north of Bergerac and have over a hectare of land with a few goats, a few hens, a vegetable garden, more fruit and walnut trees than we need, and we run a couple of popular holiday properties on the site. I speak good French although the main language in the house is English.

We really appreciate an extra hand from willing guests from time to time, and the chance to make new friends, hear new perspectives, and share stories round our table.

Although we are in a rural location, the lovely town of Bergerac is 5 minutes by car, with lots of things going on there as well as train and bus link... more inside

We are restoring a fabulous castle with 365 windows that still badly need TLC : putty, linseed oil, varnish... April, May, June, September, October are usually fine. July and August are not a time when works can be done at the chateau as visitors are around.
We would be very glad to welcome one or two people who are fond of old places and heritage. There are lots of other things that need doing as well. If you like refurbishing, if you are good at clearing up, carpentering, plumbering or gardening... you'll have lots to keep you busy !
We live in the South West of France, the Dordogne, in an area where there is lots to visit and enjoy.
We don't actually live in the chateau (so there is some travelling involved) but in town which is nice because Périgueux is a lovely little city right in the center of the Dordogne.
You will be able to share our family life with our teenage daughter. We often have our children and grand-children during the holidays.
We speak both French & En... more inside

Our farmhouse from 1680 is situated on a hill top next to a forest on 9 Acres. We are setting up the property in a permaculture way; organic, raised beds, a crater-garden and a food forest. We are waiting for the permit to start a permaculture camping with some cabins and tree-houses. We are restoring the house in the traditional/green way, use reclaimed oak and chestnut beams and carved stones from an old ruin and work with lime, stone, clay and insulation from natural materials. We will make a greenhouse, chicken pen, pony stable, swimming pond and a petting zoo. We love our work, vegetarian food, and jamming around the camp-fire. Activities include: green building, organic vegetable garden, and forestry. We are a family with two small children and we enjoy our time with volunteers!
Recreation: Pyrenees mountains, ocean beach, swimming in a river.
We speak French, English, Dutch, German and some Italian.
please come and go during the weekends, but if that`s difficult let ... more inside

Bonjour, kia ora and hi. We are Sara, Jeremy, 15 year old Elijah and dogs, Nyx and Lion and chickens, so far, hope for sheep soon. We are kiwis and British and have found a new home here in the sunny south west of France at the Moulin. It is on 8 acres of land, some woods, a river and pond, there are quite a few fruit trees, and a newly and very fast growing vegetable garden.
We have so much wildlife, frogs, bird, lizards, even salamanders. Our environment is pretty intact so the eco-system on our land is flourishing. It's wonderful and w etry and minimally impact on it.

For the last 3 years we have been tending and taming and renovating. This year we want to focus our fruit and veg.
Being somewhat sustainable is a goal so our chickens are part of that, as well as being lucky enough to have the fruit trees and good soil for our veg..
We will love to have help end of summer, early-autumn for fruit picking and help making jams and chutneys. We hate wasting food. Similarly our w... more inside

Bonjour et Bienvenue!

HELP NEEDED WITH GARDENING, WOOD CUTTING, STONE WALL BUILDING, GENERAL MAINTENANCE, COOKING.

PLEASE read our profile fully and note that our home is rural, and public transport in the immediate vicinity is almost non-existent. That doesn't mean we're isolated, just that buses and suchlike are not on the doorstep! There are local trains, and we do have bicycles for your use. We can supply approximate cycling times to local villages & towns on request. We do recommend a car or other motor vehicle as essential.

We're an active couple who would like some immediate and ongoing help with various projects around our house and land in SW France: ideally a couple, but will consider 1 or 2 people - offering you your own fairy-tale self-contained cottage or even a Pigeonnier - hours and other details by arrangement. Start as soon as possible, May or June, for up to a month.
Prefer non-smokers and meat-eaters, please, though we can explore vegetarian options... more inside
